31/4 - it's like being back in the 90s.

It is going to be a long summer.

Apparently Stokes came in ahead of Ali as they lost wickets so quickly Ali was still in the nets and couldn't get ready quick enough! What a shambles.

Oh well, only the Aussies next.

Absolutely piss poor again, 3 out for 1 run each! Hopefully Root and Stokes can steady the ship but its going to be a long day!

Well the day improved somewhat yesterday, pretty obvious we would get ran out quickly this morning but would have been nice to reach 400. NZ have made a decent start so lets see how good our bowling attack is.

How bad must Finn be now if he can't get in this side in front of Broad the undropable

Gough keeps talking about Taylor (?) Derbyshire on talksport, genuine fast bowler 90+ mph but reckons he won't get a look in because he plays for Derbyshire. Finn is pretty poor, has all the attributes but not consistent or nasty enough. Broad is very average though, and shouldn't be droppable, especially given his batting is woeful at the minute.

Mark Footit- it's quite ludicrous he hasn't been talked about more & purely based on the fact he's at Derby, best left armer in the country (not a lot of comp) purely misses out as he's at Derby, I would like to see an attack of Broad (who needs to step up his game ASAP) Anderson, Wood (who I really think has a future with England in that slingy 90mph role that Simon Jones did) & Footit 4 different types of bowlers than your Stokes, Jordan, Woakes who are all 82-85 up and down maybe a bit of movement but too predictable.

Only downside is now with Broad not mentally able to bat that would be 4 11's in the side.

Thanks couldn't remember the name. Also surely rashid must get a chance ahead of Ali? I fear Ali just had a dream summer last year, and will struggle to meet the new expectations. He can also bat a bit too.

Rahul burst in as a kid labelled the English Warne then fell away has come back strong should have played in the Windies and again is a better bowler than Ali but Ali a better bat but if Ali's staying at 8 the top 7 should be setting you on a platform of 300-5 for Rashid to come in at 8 ave 25 etc

Just fear this summer especially the ashes could seriously damage the younger players career.

Ie Lyth with the bat could easily play the 7 home tests ave 20 career over?? Dangerous times ahead if the summer goes as expected.

I expect NZ to wrack up 600 here & win by maybe an inns or 7-10 wickets!

Wood did remind me of Jones but not quite as slippery, just been looking and it looks like Tymal Mills may have to pack up first class cricket shame as he is regarded as the fastest of the lot.

All of the money the ecb spend yet they cannot produce a suitable spinner.

Jones looked like he was bowling on ice at times the ball would skid & fly through!

The spinner situation is shocking, problem is from playing the game through youth level over recent years leggies drop a few short get spanked and lose confidence kids then bowl in senior cricket the same and old blokes tank them round the park.

Then at county level lack of coaches that know how to teach spin which is an issue they need to appoint someone like Swann or Warne figure to work with England under 15's etc and try and develop.

Even Scott Borthwick at Durham was hyped up plays one test in aus and is binned off, yes he needs to move from
Durham as he doesn't bowl that much for them.

There's a few spinner more offies in the county game but none really attacking like Swann was more holding up an end a bit like Ali's job for England!

The other problem is when somebody spins it the coaches say they need to bowl it flatter and faster so they suit the one day game more, the ecb should be sending people like Mushy out into the junior players to teach them the variations early.

Need to allow kids to bowl it with no fear mix it vary it!

Saying that Steven Finn is proof you can coach a potentially world class bowler into a ruin even at international level, disgraceful what happened to him!

Finn was over coached, I started the level 2 course but it all seemed to be about creating the same type of players rather than the individuals

Hence what's happened in this England side, they'll never allow a AB De Villiers, Gayle or Mccullum.

Hales will have it coached out of him, Buttler too, Ballance I fear who behind Root is the best English batsman will be molded into something, just allow them to play no stats, computers just they're natural game!

Bell has a mare today, dropped two appalling catches even when our bowling attack was looking okay. We cannot miss these chances, it keeps costing us.

Not a cat in hell's chance. He will want a lead of 375 before he would consider declaring I would have thought.

Bat on

Can see the chase being 350 off 70 overs, they'll bat in for the first hour if they can keep wickets in hand.

Cooks cautious as it is but very good wicket still, no spinning threat for England against a very positive side can't blame him on this occasion.

It may be better if England get bowled out as Cook has a history of declaring too late.

They only bloody went and won it.

You know something, when New Zealand bagged over 520 runs and a comfortable lead, I nearly had a cheeky bet on an England win.

Wish I had.
