Not for me. Outside the boundary and it isn't Coventry City FC. I would put my support behind any newly formed AFC Coventry (providing they play in sky blue etc etc).

One man's waste is another's necessity. I think all spending on armed forces and against the drug war is a huge waste, others think education is. That's the wonder of democracy.
I think the council does a decent enough job (especially as I had to deal with Dudley council last year, they make anyone look competent).

No I totally agree. I don't expect SISU to get the ground for free, I expect them to pay the market value for it or just under (don't most people haggle when buying property?). The people who say they don't want the tax payer to lose out over a quid etc etc are going a bit OTT as I would rather the tax payer lost out slightly when it comes to the football club (I know not all tax payers would agree) than some other things that seem totally pointless for most people.

I would give the club preferential treatment (free rent, access to revenues) every day of the week because they belong to the people of Coventry and a successful team has massive economic benefits. However, I'm still to be convinced any of this is for the benefit of the club.

I agree with that, there does need to be rules and regulations saying it must be of benefit to the club. If SISU got the ground, surrounding land for 99p but they HAD to put any profits into the club they I'd be well behind it.

Completely disagree that the taxpayers should support the club. The club does not belong to the people of Coventry, it belongs to an anonymous group of very rich people. Very rich people whose scruples do not exclude investing in a hedge fund like SISU that will take any extreme measure within the law to squeeze a pound. Very rich people who we know do not worry about hiding their money in offshore accounts (again courtesy of SISU) to avoid paying their dues to the country. And some people argue we should cut them some slack and give them a bargain deal on something that those of us who do pay tax have built? No way.
I'm no socialist, indeed I typically vote Tory because I don't trust the others with the economy. But this is far far beyond the pail

Okay so if Sisu built a ground in Nuneaton because that would be the same as Bolton's situation, yes in the borough but it's not in the City of.

Not just economic benefits either, benefits to do with identity, visibility, social cohesiveness.
But yes, the art is to fathom out a deal where the club can be given preferential treatment, and along the way it's guarded enough that the club benefits from that treatment. Like it or not, we're in a world where people piggy back on public deals to make cash, so I'd have to swallow my pride on that to an extent...
But if it's sufficient benefit to the club that goes with it, and everything's in synthesis, and if in making cash for themselves they also do what's 'right' for a football club (surprisingly in some ways they have, academy being a decent example).
Oh, as for the original question, a mile outside is a probable 'yes' for me, but it depends just where. Frankly, I never saw the Ricoh site as 'Coventry' when I grew up anyway.

Yeah, this is where I'm torn as I can't help but agree with this as well. Why should people who come into football to make money, take money off me for stuffing up?
It's a decent question with an unfortunately ambiguous answer really. In my younger days, I'd be far more behind this. perhaps that's the point, kill off the opposition by forcing apathy upon them, people shrug their shoulders.
In short, I don't know. I can see the benefits of a football club in the city in so many ways, though, that benefit to SISU might also bring benefit to us.
But that requires trust built up as well, rather than wilfully vague statements.

I probably won't go, but I'm not ruling it out 100%.
As for council selling te Arena at below market rates, it is a resounding no from me, this council bailed out the club when they screwed up on building the Ricoh by providing the finances & wherewithal to complete the project, now the owners want to turn round and ream the council.. so not again, it is not a good idea to reward ingratitude.

First thing to do would be to find out what the 'market rate' was I guess...
And what packages would be included within that 'market rate'.
Until then it's pointless anyway. Buggered if I know how much a football stadium costs, not like I buy many of them in my lifetime!

Thing is, I don't see "the club" as the owners but rather the intangible collection of memories and shared emotion. And that's why I'd offer a long lease at low rent/free because a successful club will pay back far more than it costs and that way the club is secure but its owners can't do anything we don't agree with with the land.
Access to football related revenues too because I think its fair and it gives the owners an incentive to grow the club.
Ideally the club can't sell these in times of need.
Beyond that they can pay market rate.

if sisu were to be given the freehold at a price that suits both sets of people, they might have fooked off by 2017/2018, selling to the highest bidder, if anyones mad enough to buy a football team.
I too don't believe they have any wish to build a new stadium either.

Grimsby have always played in Cleethorpes,Brighton play in the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove(Goldstone was in Hove) Wimbledon play two miles out of Merton but are looking to move to Merton as part of Wimbledon dog track redevelopement

Part of the car park is in Lewes rest is in Brighton and Hove. Grimsby has never been the home of the team Wimbledon are playing "outside their homes" temporarily through necessity unlike ourselves which is through sheer vindictiveness

I was in Brighton recently and met a lovely seagulls fan who said it was such a shame we weren't in the Ricoh still as the stadium was almost as good as the AMEX. We were having a nice time until her boyfriend turned up.: (

There's some hypocrisy on this thread. There will be people who go to watch Warwickshire play cricket in the West Midlands, skilled laborers who have done 'tax free' jobs here stating they won't go and watch coventry outside of coventry or support a tax dodging hedge fund! If SISU sold the club to a sugar daddy who built a stadium 1 mile outside the city boundary we'd sell out for the first match. It's got nothing to do with whether the stadium is built inside or outside of some magical line and all to do with not being prepared to follow SISU's whim of where we play. Which is fair enough, but why not just admit that, rather than pretending the location of the stadium is some kind of sanctified line in the sand that can't be crossed

No hypocrisy. In cricket terms Warwickshire play in Warwickshire, and the West Midlands isn't a real county anyway, it was set up in 1974 and abolished in 1986. Now only a ceremonial county. Are you suggesting everyone should have stopped supporting them because the boundaries changed? That's rather fickle isn't it?
If you have evidence of individuals committing tax evasion then I suggest you contact the authorities, otherwise keep your accusations to yourself.
I will not watch CCFC outside of Coventry. End of. Nothing stopping you and a few others doing it, but it seems the majority wouldn't.
We are a ancient proud city. One who's inventions has helped transform the modern world, rebuilt from being virtually destroyed whilst standing up for democracy, home to over 100 car manufacturers. I'm not prepared to stand idly by and watch our city get embarrassed by some two- bit hedge fund.
Its time that Joy Sepalla, Tim Fisher and Mark Labovitch find out what happens when you mess with the people of Coventry. They might take away our football club, but we are sure as hell going to make sure that cold hearted bitch never gets her money back.

That does not make any difference,the CCC still paid for the Ricoh to be built.
When sisu where busy stealing the fans shares by threatening no purchase of the Club, they should have been concentrating on playing the trump card they held at that time, ie telling the Council they needed ownership of the stadium for CCFC to be viable, and that they would not purchase the Club without also buying the Stadium.
