You can make more than an educated guess we don’t have another £3m to spend

Yeah but like others have mentioned our transfers aren’t being paid with the whole amount up front, it’s usually staged and depends on the player meeting various stages with their career with us

It’s still £3m which needs to be budgeted for, whatever way you look at it
Finances tight as Sky Blues look to complete transfer business
Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner on the difficulties faced by Mark Robins as he attempts to put the final touches to his summer recruitment drivewww.coventrytelegraph.net
If you read this though, even the Hamer transfer was based on lots of add ons, so has Sheaf and Gyo so if we get given £6.5m, have lower overheads being at home, have fans in the stadiums etc maybe we might have more to play with than we did last year

So basically we’ve been underfunded. As everyone’s been saying.
Yeah I genuinely felt like (and may still happen of course but less likely now) Hamer was definitely going to be sold for a large fee and we would have got James/Walsh and maybe have been in a position to get Ostigard also.I suspect a transfer out hasn’t happened, over the last few seasons every year there’s been atleast one out for a decent fee, Maddison, McNulty, Chaplin Bayliss, McCallum which i accept happens at all levels, as far as I know we received a bit of a fee for Marosi & that’s it. Might explain why Matty James wasn’t taken on.
I think last season as everyone knows they prepared knowing it was unlikely we would have crowds and budgeted accordingly, this year ‘should’ in theory be different so hopefully more to spend

I thought we were told we would have a slightly bigger budget this coming season,so far it appears less.
How so? Last season we only signed 5 players permanently, paying fees for 2 - we've already done that for the coming season with more possibly to come.
Players like Waghorn, Sheaf & Gyökeres will probably be on reasonable money too plus factoring in the likelihood of bonuses paid out for staying in the division I think it's almost certain that our budget now is higher.
I think people really underestimate how difficult it is to recruit now at this level.
Hopefully but clearly not. Clearly Joy has had the vapours at the cost of Championship football and decided enough enough.
And before anyone gives me the “self sufficient” bollocks, we’ve never been self sufficient and pretty much always make a loss yet still buy players so clearly it’s a choice by our owners how much we spend.
And overspending by our previous and current owners is one of the main reasons we ended up in league 2
There are also numerous championship teams who haven't even made a signing yet, we've made 5 first team ones
You are also ignoring the impact of last season and having to cover for the lack of crowds, income etc
Knew this would be the response.
As I said, we always overspend. Every season. We never end up in the black. We exist entirely at the behest of our owners and have as much money as they give us.
The real question is how do we spend that money and I think it’s fairly clear that with a small increase in budget we could have picked up several players who would return on their investment.

Like sheaf, gyo and bright you mean
We have hit almost 10,000 season tickets and have the prospect of an assumed average 17k home crowds in the league plus whatever else we might cobble together in the cups. For us to be more hamstrung budget wise than last summer when we knew nobody would be allowed in but still spent a fair whack on Hamer and Walker alone I’m struggling to make sense of.
So far we have scraped the barrel as well as we can but in a league where all the other owners seem OK to write off everything they put in
More like Walsh and Østigård. Bright is a Kasta style gamble not a serious investment.
Sheaf and Györkeres might make a return on investment but neither improve the squad and we signed Sheaf last summer.
tbf, that's kind of shmmeee's point, I'd assume!Taking all emotion out of it if you are Walsh and you have the choice of cov or Swansea everyone would surely go to Swansea for the chance of promotion

Not sure the increased budget is as obvious as it may seem at first glance, as it has to take in moneys in / out on installments on transfers too, so it could well be we were spending transfer windfalls last summer, and are paying for last summer's transfers now.

Good job you aren't a Luton or huddlesfield fan then as you'd be suicidal with their singings if ours are "scraping the barrell"
But who is to say that we didn't make a major play for Walsh but were beaten by a side with premiership ambitions
Depends which player installments are now finished, too. Most fees are probably paid in instalments now but even so NW would you really expect these to be so large as to override all the increases in income we’re getting plus the more favourable rent deal?
Did you see our strikers last season ? It’s the one area that needed sorting probably more than anywhere else,Gyo will be instalments and tbh it’s a good move he’s got potential Waghorn on a free also adds to what we had with max and baka,it’s hardly being wreckless with a budget them 2 coming we should have more in the pot which I’m sure we do,wreckless is wasting a budget he’s being shrewd it takes time I’m certain we will be stronger by the start of this season than when we finished lastThat fact that we didn’t then turn around and use that money elsewhere.
TBH Robins has some blame here as well. If our budget is that low blowing most of it on two strikers was reckless.
In regards to Sheaf I can’t recall seeing him have one stand out game last season tbh 750k on him for me is madness but I accept others see it a lot different, hopfully he proves me wrong this seasonWhy is everyone getting their knickers in a twist about budget this summer? We haven’t finished our transfer dealings yet.
Also, it’s a fact of life, Covid has caused major issues with cash flow in football, so pretty much every club is in the same situation.
Finally, what is with writing off players before they’ve played for us?
We get rid of Max and Baka and replace them with a Viktor and Waghorn. Both good strikers at this level. Viktor hasn’t hit his prime yet and Waghorn brings vital experience up front.
We get rid of Kasta who quite frankly is one of the worst signings in our history and replace him with Bright. Yes, Bright is bit of a maverick but the most eccentric players are. Is he a shit footballer? The answer is no! On his day he is unplayable. Also he is proven to be an asset for us in the past.
Sheaf is now perm and Robins has said he needs to improve certain parts of his game, but he was injured for a lot of last season. We saw glimpses of a top player there.
Moore is in to replace Marko. Management have identified him to be a better keeper than Marosi. So let’s see what he brings. Let’s not judge him on a row season game in 35c heat against a Champions League side. Blades fans say he’s a good keeper.
LB we know they will bring players in and also at CB.
We have breakthrough players this season with the likes of Eccles in midfield. Bapaga and also Jodi fingers crossed will be a real asset.
This season we’re making more players perm rather than loan. Incrementally the squad gets stronger each season. I’m sure the loan players will be good quality.
Honestly, show me what other clubs have done transfer wise I’m the league that is so impressive? Especially mid to lower table ones. Not many.
All in all I’m very hopeful this season. I’m relishing an attack with the likes of O’Hare, Bright, Jones, Viktor/Waghorn etc.

Hard disagree. Our defence and GK were by far our biggest issue. We lost our strikers due to injury but when they played they were more than good enough, our problem was getting the ball to them in dangerous areas. Our xG was pathetic last season.
We needed to either buy a big man we can lump it up to or massively improve the defence so we weren’t under the cosh the entire time. We’ve done neither.
