Is Clarke-Salter actually any good? Both Sunderland and Blues fans have told me he's dreadful.

Not sure I've ever watched him play so not sure if they're just winding me up.

He's potentially very good but injuries have hampered him quite a bit. His first spell at Blues he was excellent & excelled at Vitesse too.
The Sunderland loan was a disaster as he got consecutive red cards but that was 3 & a half years ago, he's improved a lot since then.

Natural leader - captained England U21s, strong, quick & very comfortable on the ball (even moreso than our current CBs imo). Can sometimes be caught out positionally but plenty to work with. Will also have a level of understanding with Maatsen already.
I'm excited at the prospect of having a proper left footer at LCB giving much needed balance.

Sounds exactly what we need, if we manage to sign Ostigard, we could have a fairly solid defence from the sounds of it.

I didn’t realise he was left footed. Exactly what we needed last season.

He seemingly went from hero to zero in no time at all.
Far exceeded my expectations in terms of competency. Prior to his first game, from what I read on here, I imagined that someone had essentially given Mr Tickle a pair of gloves and somehow he’d forced his way into our first team.

Mr Tickle would be an outstanding GK tho. The reach on that guy.

I’d still have Østigård over McFadzean and have questions about Rose, Dabo and Maatsen stepping up. But those are questions I can live with as I love watching players develop.

I think Dabo looked very comfortable and definitely at the level in the few games he was actually fit in last season.

He was one of a few along with James, O’Hare and Hamer who used the ball really well at times and looked a level above some of our others *cough* Hyam *cough*

Just worry about him defensively. And aerially.

I don't think he was as bad as some seem to think last season, anyway - even in his worse games.

Made an horrendous error in one of the games, tried to play a 40 yard ball across his 18 yard box which got intercepted, they didn't score, but still.

Worth persisting with though as he spent all season injured.

Both Dabo and Rose need to stay fit this season. If they do we can kind of find out if they can step up. Think both can if injury free

But everyone makes mistakes from time to time - even Wilson.

Is there a genuine link to Clarke-Salter then or just speculation? Maasten, Clarke-Salter and a holding midfielder would do me.

When Rose came into the side later in the season his use of the ball was revolutionary TBH. Stopped the awful “to the wing back, back to you, turn like an oil tanker, to the other CB, get it back, lump it up, lose possession” we’d been cursed with.

Would Hyam be better served in the middle of the 3 if we do sign a LCB?

I think it’s no secret that I don’t rate Hyam at all at this level, but maybe. It’s his distribution I have the most issues with. Not sure I’d have him ahead of McFadzean based on last season though.

Rose does have something him and the moneyball football stats crowd seem to love him.
