Cashman confirmed

Bit of an odd one IMO given MR's just said we haven't got budget to bring in a player in a position we're far more desperate in.

I can only imagine Rochdale will be paying his entire wages for the year, but even then players usually get a signing on fee.

Dont know how many of the posters on here would be coping as a Blackburn or Derby fan

Just look back at that pre-season with Mowbray. That was effectively essentially the same.

Doesn't matter if we sign 2 players or 22players, there will always be someone saying we should sign more, or should have signed someone else instead.

I recon this deal was made a while ago, Rochdale have also just done the press for the loan, shows him signing on their pitch so doubt it all happened today. Maybe Robins had already counted this deal when he was interviewed

It’s comments like this that make me think somethings off:

View attachment 21302

But there are so many reasons why a transfer, that at one stage looks likely, may fall through:

The selling/parent club decide to keep him
He decides to join someone else
His wage demands increase
Selling club want a higher fee
A deal for a player we were selling to free up wages falls through (which actually happened with Mason)

Just because a deal falls through does not mean something is 'off'

There seems to be an expectation that we identify targets, click our fingers, and he joins. And that anything else means something is 'off', or we've got no money, or Robins doesn't know what he's doing etc etc

It's just not that black and white. Transfers are a fluid business, things change all the time.

I think there's the transfer budget, then there's the development budget.

Apparently there have been a lot of delays with Hummel kits this season - A supplier issue or something. Yes, we are very late with it, but to suggest it is some wild conspiracy is a bit much. Don't really have much else to add, just wanted to help get us to 200. 😁

Ok, appreciate that may be the case in terms of getting it mass-manufactured and on sale. But releasing it? Ive just checked 4 other clubs - Everton, Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Cambridge - all with Hummel and all have released both kits.

I’m not speculating as to what is happening, but it just doesn’t sit right with me.

What MR said seems to be the entire reason is his budget.

If he has someone lined up already then why have the lad on trial when he knows his budget won't stretch. If someone has just become available it doesn't fit the narrative of working 2 windows ahead that we've been told is in the model.

I'm not really suggesting any theories, I just feel like something is off this window and can't put my finger on it.

It's definitely off.

I said it felt a bit Mowbray a few weeks ago and got a few mocking responses. Yet, here we are the day or so before our first game without a centre back or two.

Sounds to me as if robins thinks the budget he has left could be better spent on another player.

So we probably could afford him if we wanted but would be at the expense of a higher priority target.
Exactly, they are prob negotiating with Clarke-Saltzer and need financial room to make sure the deal get´s done.
Then see what they have left.

I think he keeps clicking ‘Request Extra Transfer Budget’ but it’s greyed out as he hasn’t waited long enough since the last request. Needs to give it another week

Except a week ago is was definitely three. And a few weeks before that it was four.
It might help his cause if he didnt hand out long term contracts to the likes of Hilsner, Jobello, Mason, Pask etc, and then bomb them out without getting them off the wage bill !
I get that not every signing can be successful,
But we needed to off load quicker.

We cant keep recruiting while Carrying 4 players wages.

Easier said than done to offload players though

Plus don't forget Mason was about to leave until he got injured. That probably explains why we're going to get one less signing, or why Soare/Cranie won't sign.
