They bit us another season before that when Regis scored for them and we stayed up only as I think notts county didn’t get a result

I remember on they Interviewed the chairman - can’t even remember who it was - who was totally wrecked and they ended the interview very quickly

16 year old me was there. Fekkin carnage at half time when the shutters came up. Real life Football Factory. From ecstasy to desperation in the space of 45 minutes.

Boils my piss that Villa fans still say to me “ow yeah wuz that the dayyy wey relugayted ya”. Generally followed by me pointing out, through gritted teeth, we’d have gone anyway.

Oh, Notts County got their result against Luton. 2-1, winner from Rob Edwards. Sadly, it didn't stop them being relegated but it saved our hides. And our Chairman in 1999/00 was Bryan Richardson.... 'nuff said.

Sat in the Doug Ellis stand. Shitty day. Ginola came on at halftime and turned the game on it’s head is my memory.

lol yeah it was Peter Robins he was totally pissed up
It was Peter Robins I think it meant we qualified for the new premier league and Robins was celebrating the fact that we would get I think it was £3million, bit different to today.

From memory Hadji ran the game for us first half, then second half it was the Paul Merson show.

During the intermission of a match of association football between Coventry City and Aston Villa at Aston Villa's home stadium during the intermission a dividing barrier between the supporters of each side was removed.

The gosh darn scallywags on either side gave it a right good go with the old fisticuffs and it was reminiscent of a popular talkie of the time.

Id have been 16 at the time, felt like the fucking world had ended. Even now i think i split things into pre and post relegation from the Premier League. None of the other relegations have felt as bad as this one, even with Bryan's soothing words about treadmills or hamster wheels, whatever it was.

Awful memories. I must have been 35 at the time. I had seen all of the last day escapes starting with the infamous 1977 draw with Bristol City that sent Sunderland down.

Not sure I will be truly over it until we are back in the Premier league.

Other way round. Notts County were already down, and beat a Luton side with Trevor Peake in their defence.
I thought that was early eighties! Its when County gave a start to a Loughborough Student, who scored their two goals to beat Luton.
I have just looked up who the Loughborough guy was his name Rob Matthews. Looks like his only goals he scored in the top flight.

Now if he'd wanted to use Robbie Matthews instead of Rob he'd of made it. Sounds like a footballer.

I'd have been 9 I think, listening on the radio. Vaguely remember turning if off at half time, coming back and it was 2-2 but it's a very hazy memory. Cried for ages afterwards

I was 17 at the time - was in the concourse buying a bottle of Ribena at half time when the shutters came up, remember getting barged out of the way by a load of police in riot gear as I tried to make my escape.

Does feel like a different lifetime now, but really thought the escape was on when we went 2 up only to be left distraught at full time.
