The old folk are looking for a new TV. I've seen this one on offer but don't really know much about specs etc. Looks OK to me, 50 inch is cheaper than the 43 at the minute. Anyone able to translate in simple terms whether it's any good?
They only ever watch 'normal' tv programmes - soaps, drama's etc, rather than films, and they're certainly not gamers!

Hey SW, I've literally just bought the 43" version of this on Amazon for £299, though now I can only find it for £310, sorry...

I don't really know a great deal about TVs, and this is last year's model, but I can connect it to my hub via an RJ45 lead and get stuff like Netflix, Youtube and even browse the internet directly (though the latter is a bit clunky), and there's a HDMI and a SCART connection too. Setting up was a bit of faff mind, it seemed to take a while to understand that I wanted to connect via HDMI for the TV (via the hub), but in terms of picture and sound it's certainly good enough for me. Very nice for watching the cricket highlights, for example.
The reason we didn't go for the 49 inch version is simply that it's massive - it would dominate the entire room. Others, of course, might prefer that.
Again though, this isn't my area of expertise, and I'll bet there's someone here who will know a ton more about this than me. But at the price, it seems like a good deal, and our last Toshiba TV is still going strong after almost two decades!
