This 3-5-2, 4-4-2 in my opinion its a load of bollocks,,, as in any giving time your shape will change with or without the ball... System's are designed to give players an idea of structure in a team and hope they express themselves during the game..I keep hearing system's are be be all and end all, they are not,,,,every coach will change a formation or replace a player who may have an effect on the outcome, which is what coaching game days is about...
Shape is more important than a starting formation.
The shape a team holds is the formation, it may take on different forms throughout a game (A more defensive/attacking 5-3-2). However the formation is key as the positions set out our where the players will find themselves playing 90% of the time. In our case we find ourselves with eight men in defensive areas most of the time, with two isolated strikers up front.
Next game you watch on TV don't look at the team sheet don't listen to commentary just watch and see if you can guess a teams so called Formation at any given time.... That will tell you your putting to much on Formation in my opinion they are starting position used to coach, used by coaches to help players understand where and where not's to be during a game,, it should never be used as an area that you never leave.. Players and coaches win game by the decisions they make, not what formation they start in..
We are not a great squad, we don't have lots of quality and we concede to many goals which now without the Wilson's and Clarke's SP has worked out that playing 8 men in an area of where the ball is (Flooding Area's) might be the better way to go with the squad he has....He will not be shouting formation in training he will be shouting Shape, like every other manager in the country during training and games...

Reckon I'd be able to tbh, we have a squad good enough to make the playoffs. Our attacking players aren't being allowed the chance to create by being played in far too deep positions, with a huge gap between the strikers and the rest of the team. Formation is shape...

LJ it's just an opinion that we differ on, it's the way i see the game,, i don't think we are a great squad i think SP is going to bring in a few more and it might changed about how we go forward..
As for formation is shape, that's in your opinion, i would never coach that way or ever try to ,, formation is a starting position for me that's all..
formations are all about how you shape up when you're not in possesion
For me the only thing you can be sure of with formations is they all add up to 10.
I think the jury's out on this one .....I am a bit of a traditionalist so like us playing 4-4-2. However think we should still give it a chance.....we have only lost 1 out of 4 in the league and have had a tough opening.
I am willing to give it ten games or so and see where we are at before we change it up!
