felt this was the most suitable formation for us for the last few years
Really hope it comes to fruition
Shame Phillips was let go though, I feel he would have been a natural right ring back
Like Haynes is a natural left wing back.
Also feel Martin would have been alright in this set up
Rickets Martin Stokes

Or 3-2-5 / 3-5-2 variable depends on when you haven't got the ball and when you're in procession. Have to mix it quite a lot in this League and we must be more physical IMHO

Good post.
I think Philips and Martin were let go because they are quite quiet. On numerous occasions both TM and Martin said about his 'laid back' approach. Also, with Philips his father was rather outspoken about TM for not picking him which doesn't help.
But, I agree with the formation. It's my favourite formation and Wales played that way in the Euros.

???????????----------Willis--------Ricketts-----------Stokes--------Haynes

We have some work to do as we need a right wing back, and I wouldn't have Haynes near the 1st team.

Ironically, Ryan Flynn would have been ideal at right wing back

I don't see how 532 works with Jones he is an out and out winger than likes hugging the touchline, it's the wrong formation IMO. And at the minute they're practicing it with a lone striker and 2 in the whole, so we're going to back to square one of having width and 1 man in the box waiting for a cross.

Its OK as a plan b but is a difficult and can be quite negative (see man u under van gaal).

At the end of last season it was more of a 343 or 523.

With one central striker and two creative players playing just behind and slightly wide to the main striker

I think wing-back is the hardest position to play in any formation. For it to be successful, you need two really good players, with a primary focus on defending but with decent pace, a good engine and ability to deliver a good cross.

I always thought if Chelsea or England played 5-3-2/3-5-2, that Ashley Cole would've been an ideal wing-back. That's the sort of player you'd want. If Ryan Haynes could defend like a proper FB, I reckon he'll develop into a decent wing-back.

With Current squad 5-3-2 is the most ludicrous of any I can think of typical Dong!

I think at the moment we are looking at a 4-4-2 diamond for me though TM does like his 4-2-3-1......
Currently I would go with 4-4-2 diamond and would line up like this.

RCC GK
Haynes LB (as Stokes suspended)
Ricketts CB
Willis CB
Kelly Evans RB
Vincelot DCM
Gadhzev ACM
Jones LW
Lameiras RW (both wingers could switch wings also)
Tudguy ST
Sordelll ST

Subs: Burge, Harries, Kelly Evans, Rose, G,Thomas, K.Thomas, Spence

Granted it was only 45 mins against nuneaton but that right back looked really solid - whitemore i think? decent defensively and really impressive going forward. actually thought he was a trialist until i found out who he was

From what I saw of Jones last season he loved coming inside and getting a shot off in the inside forward type of role.

3-4-3 is definitely our best position with current personnel.
Haynes is a VERY decent wing back. His hype period under Pressley where he had Premier league scout's attention was at wingback.
Jones can play just behind two strikers (he may naturally drift out right, but he's young and can be moulded)
If we had a league tomorrow:
RCC
Willis Ricketts Stokes
Rose Gadzhev Vincelot Haynes
Jones
Tudgay Sordell

I like Haynes.

As a defender there is only one part of his game he needs to work on.

Defending.

Typical Dong ??

Have a word with yourself you numpty

Mowbray has been trying the formation with the squad as it is.
He obviously knows the players he has lined up with fit this system.

It rarely works and will require the club to sign two wing backs and two centre backs to accommodate the system.

Of the players we have only stokes of the defenders would suit in a defensive 3 but he as full back in a back 4 was the best and most consistent player last season.

Think you need to tell that to Mowbray
I don't think he is playing that system at the moment when we don't currently have the players for it just for the fun of it.

Other than stokes we don't actually have a full back unless Ricketts will be playing again so I'm not really reading much into it.

If he really is going that way and we have Haynes as a wing back bigiamarana as a defensive midfielder and a back three which includes Willis and Ricketts it's going to be a long hard season.

We have a first choice GK in RCC
We have one first choice FB in Stokes
We have (but shouldn't) one first choice CB in Ricketts
We have one first choice CM in Vince
We have one first choice winger in Jones
We have 0 first choice strikers (judging by the Sordell goal thread)

in short, TM will be busy in the next couple of weeks

I think he will go with

Stokes as the left of a back three
A new signing or Reda (on pay as you play) in the middle
Ricketts to the right.

Then as you say two new signings for the wing backs

Willis competing with the CB's
Haynes competing with the left wing back.

Vince in front of the defence
Gadshev slightly in front of him.

Jones Sordell and a new signing as the attacking three.

Then another three other signings to provide coverage and depth to the squad.

I just see no sense in playing that system when you don't have the right players for it unless it is the system you would like to play and you are hoping to bring in the players to fit.

He could just be trying to work on a plan b. That side in that formation will struggle to score goals.

I just can't see him starting with his plan B in both games.

Yes agree with you on goals front a lot will depend on that third attacking player. Also the wing back would need to be exceptional in coming forward and creating

My opinion, formation depends on which targets are signed, if first choice don't come here it is plan B.
