Great piece in the paper today about a bloke aged 98 who goes to the gym 5 times a week and does 90 minute work outs. Shows him lifting weights,crunches,rowing,bike,and press ups. The blokes awesome as he only visits his doctor twice a year. Amazes me how age is no barrier,he looks really healthy and his sessions aren't easy neither !

People like him annoy me, used to be a bloke about 70 who I think was a champion athlete because you couldn't get close to keeping up with him when rowing or running.

Yes makes you feel inadequate ! They're freaks of nature I reckon. When I worked as a labourer on the railways many years ago a bloke in our gang was skinny and about nine stone wet. Yet he was the strongest of us all and yet drank and smoked and never had a day off. We all called him the Alien !

Sounds like me from my Army days! I'm 6'4" and always been really skinny. Until about mid to late 20s I was about 12-13 stone. Lads used to say I had 'mong' strength as I could lift just about anything. I was quite a deceiving 1nd row as I'd push the pack as well as anyone twice my build. Being so light and tall I was good to throw up for line outs too.
Was always super fit too! Used to smoke 20 a day and drink the equivalent of 4-5 bottles of vodka a week but still ran the mile and a half (10mins 30secs was the requirement, 9mins 30 for para and commando) in 8mins 30. It's only now I'm out the Army and have given up smoking and all but given up the drink (and eat healthy) that I'm now 16.3stone and get out of breathe walking up the steps at the ricoh to my seat!

Are you sure you're not Alien ? Only joking but he was incredible as he drank us all under the table,eat like a horse,and never took a day off. But fitness/strength is deceptive as someone who looks strong can be weak.
My late father was a Brickie and they needed a hod carrier. A bloke walked on site and he was massive and had a swagger my dad said.He was given a trial period to see if he was up to it and he got his hod full of bricks and up the ladder he went. He lasted about half an hour ! My dad said he was sweating like a pig and had no stamina needed to keep the brickies supplied with bricks. In the end the bloke who got the job was slightly built but fit as a fiddle. Never judge a book by it's cover so they say !

Some people are just more suited, biologically and physically, to manual labour and heavy carrying. I'm definitely not, it's not a case of strength cos I can lift anything that's no absurdly heavy, just haven't got the lung capacity. Bloody asthma.

My youngest son who's 32 is slim and about 11 stone. To look at him he doesn't look strong but he's a roofer and a tough tackling midfielder. I had a drink recently with his roofer workmate and he said my son was the hardest worker he'd ever worked with,and is as strong as an Ox. Bloody hell there are aliens everywhere !

Been looking up strength etc online. The strongest animal/creature on earth is the dung beetle which can lift over a thousand times it's own body weight !

Have seen them on documentaries, carrying the big balls of dung.

Same as the ants who carry loads too.

A fellow window cleaner who cleaned windows in Bell Green for many years retired last year after a stroke.
The cafe owner told me his age as I thought he was in his sixties, he was in his 80's ! Ex Para and only a little bloke but tough as old boots.Mega respect.
