Sky Blues manager hoping to make a move for former loan man after centre-back was released by Birmingham
Steven Pressley is aiming to sign a new centre-half this summer to bolster his leaky Coventry City defence.
The Sky Blues boss has a number of defensive targets in mind after his side shipped 77 goals in 46 League One outings last term.
And he has revealed that one of the players under consideration to help stem the flow is former loan man Aaron Martin, who is a free agent after being released by Birmingham City.
The 24-year-old played 12 times for Coventry while on loan from Premier League Southampton at the back end of the 2012/13 campaign, during which time Pressley was impressed enough to try to renew the arrangement the following season.
But Martin was sidelined with injury for the first half of last term and after his contract with the Saints was terminated by mutual consent in January he joined Blues on a short-term deal until the end of the season – playing only eight times for the Championship relegation battlers before being released by manager Lee Clarke.
“We’re in the market for a centre-back and he is on our list,” confirmed Pressley.“We’ve got a number of names we’re looking at over the course of the next couple of months and he’s one of a number of players in that position that we’re considering.
“As yet we haven’t made any actual decisive move for him but we are certainly considering it.”
Pressley used Andy Webster and Jordan Clarke as his regular pairing at the tail end of last season.
He squad also includes Dan Seaborne, who signed in January after an impressive loan spell and wore the captain’s armband on a number of occasions, and Jordan Willis, although Pressley thinks that the home-produced youngster is most effective at right-back.
