And another side to the story.... http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/alan-higgs-centre-bosses-say-11359256

Coventry Sports Foundation said the club is 'exploring options' after expressing a desire to move out

The organisation which manages Coventry City FC’s Academy base at the Alan Higgs Centre has said the door is still open for the club to extend its existing lease at the site.

Coventry Sports Foundation told the Telegraph it is still “exploring options” after the club indicated it might want to stay past the end of its existing lease which runs out in 2017.
:
:
Paul Breed, chief executive of the Coventry Sport Foundation, said: “Coventry City’s current legal agreement for its Academy to be based at the Higgs Centre expires in June 2017.

“It is no secret that Coventry City have been looking to base all their playing operations at a purpose-built complex in the Coventry area and therefore move away from the Higgs Centre and had told us in meetings they would therefore be unable to commit to a long term future, which is completely understandable.

“Obviously we have to bear that ambition in mind when making our own plans for the centre.

“Recently the club has informed us their intentions might change, and we are exploring options.”

Interesting they are keeping quiet on the new swimming pool that would see the indoor pitches go, which I believe is a requirement of a cat 2 academy.

Sounds like firefighting to me, don't want to be seen as the bad people in this.

And no mention of Wasps moving in and the fact CCFC are claiming it is a done deal.

You would think they would deny that?

isn't this just part of the overall confusion about the way everything has been done over the last 18 months or so? The club had often been quoted as wanting to include new academy facilities in the new stadium plans. Wouldn't commit to more than a rolling 12 month contract after the much-publicised spat a couple of years ago when the academy moved out for a while. Higgs Trust have spoken up before about expanding the facilities offered to other local groups. So people make alternative plans for the future.
Maybe the club should have learnt from the situation that left the door open for Wasps to grab the Ricoh.
Couldn't agree more, this is just a case of the council/Higgs having enough of their pathetic games and taking a firm offer. sadly this offer is from the bloody franchise rugby club.....again !! I think people are not living in the real world, SISU don't want to pay market value for anything so they keep losing out...............or rather CCFC does !

Who knows, I wouldn't take either Les Reid or Simon Gilbert's word as gospel. There is probably enough room on that site to build a new pool and retain the old indoor pitch, but unless there is a long term deal in place there is no security. With SISU everything appears short term, I've always the feeling that they're preparing to bug out and won't build for the future unless their hand is forced.

This club is going up shit creek without a paddle with these Sisu idiots.
They keep lining up one new leader after another just to tell the same story from a different mouth.
We need long term deals and commitments or organisations will just plan for the future without us.
Wasps, Higgs, CCC (CRFC?) will just get on with long term plans and we will be left wallowing.

SISU haven't got a long term plan or at least they just can't tell how long the court action will take until they actually win a judgement.

But if you listen to some people on here everything that comes out of there latest spokesman is taken as a plan.

Chuck them a rumour or a wounded reporters twisted tale and they all accept it and try and make it work.

Is the latest spokesman the Cov Rugby bloke?

It is taken at how it is at the minute isn't it? Discussions and basic ideas / plans between them?

I don't think anybody has driven down past the Butts and asked where there is no CCFC badge on the stand yet.

You would have thought those questions would have been asked and if there was no response then that be stated in the article.

I've just put it on the other thread, probably best on here.

The Higgs side statement of the door being open reads very much like the one when Wasps took over and they said it was up to the club to buy the higgs half and the headlines inviting the club to bid etc.

Knowing full well that Wasps were having it and that was already sorted.

That's not the case at all. You look at everything and form an overall opinion.
We have a manger in place in total control of the playing side.
Players are being signed on longer term contracts.
We are signing young players with an eye for the future.
We have been told, and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise, that the club are looking at various options to secure a long term home.
The club have requested a long term deal for the academy.

These are the things you have been banging on saying the club need to do and when they do them, and some of the responses don't reflect too well on CCC and Wasps, you say they're doing the wrong thing!

Yet you still maintain everyone was drooling over TF. How odd.
A bit like you accusing all those on the hill.
You bring that bullshit up at least every couple of months, maybe you will convince yourself it is true if you keep repeating it.

Total control ? Are you having a laugh. Maddison ??
Long term contracts. It's what everybody else does. It's normal.
We are signing an unknown young player and hopefully he proves okay and is not sold on.
We have been told .......... Have a word with yourself. It's all words and no action.
You were told a new stadium, did you believe that ?
Again they play games and again people will moan when Wasps move on with stadium plans without us.
Long term deal at the academy? Typically it's too late and people seem to have moved on.

As I said they are chucking out words and people are running with it :)

No, sweetheart. I didn't bring it up, you did.

Just like the simpletons who went to shitfields and drooled over Fisher.

As I went to Sixfields I must have drooled over TF, so similarly using your twisted logic you must have abused fellow fans as you stood on the hill. Why not be a twat by PM, I'm sure people don't want to read this crap.

The Sky Blue Trust board is saddened and perplexed by the breaking news that the Allard Way facilities will no longer be available to house Coventry City’s academy when the present agreement between CCFC and the Alan Higgs Trust expires in June 2017.

A well-resourced and well-run youth academy is an essential bedrock upon which success is built and maintained at all levels of the professional game. It underpinned Coventry City's rise from Division 3 to the top flight of English football and our 34 year stay there until 2001. In more recent times it has produced players of genuine quality, including James Maddison, Gael Bigirimana, Daniel Sturridge, and Callum Wilson.

The Trust board calls upon all the parties involved to explain openly and fully all the relevant circumstances leading up to this decision. Not only do Sky Blues supporters deserve proper answers to this question, we are also entitled to demand that the relevant parties work together constructively to produce a solution to this problem.

Fair play to them! Call all parties out to sort it out, can't go wrong can you? :)

It does show though the thought process behind the "hierarchy" of the trust at the time.

From what I remember the Higgs Centre Trust sold the Higgs Centre to Warwickshire Award Trust because it was costing them a packet. From talking to someone who worked for a gym having a pool apparently ups the insurance costs a lot which is probably why they never put one in in the first place.

This is frankly crap news after the way we've actually had a half decent season for once. I don't know why we weren't more committed to keeping the academy there given that's where our future players are going to come from. I also don't understand why the rugby governing body would allow this given the promises made by Wasps. All in all the club is getting shafted by the Warwickshire Award Trust and Wasps and for good measure the Council (for closing the other large pool in the City). No change there then.

Jones contract is the longest since David Bell! Who cares if everyone else does it, we haven't been doing it and it has been identified as an issue which has now been corrected. It has been stated this isn't a one off and will be the norm moving forward.
Maddison was sold to balance the books, if you don't like that maybe you shouldn't be so keen for us to sign a long term Ricoh deal that will see the same thing happen every year.

Again they play games and again people will moan when Wasps move on with stadium plans without us.
The complaint is not that Wasps have moved on, more that Wasps are not as accommodating as you would have us believe.

Too late? Didn't realise the academy had already moved out and the facilities been removed. Rather than moaning how about putting pressure on those involved to ensure the academy remains?

As I said they are chucking out words and people are running with it :)
Not quite. Look back through my post history. I posted a few months back that I had been told, by someone independent of this whole saga, that talks had taken place with CRFC and were ongoing. No one is saying they expect to be there for the start of the season. You have long urged the club to look into all options and now they appear to be doing that you are complaining about it.

Finally CCFC/SISU or whatever nome de plume they go by realise that the lad has the talent to be a premiership player in 2 years time and they are protecting the asset for future sell on.

In his article he says the foundation haven't come to the club with a proposal for them to stay.
I don't know how this all works but what have we done in terms of asking to stay?
I appreciate we have said it in the paper but have we put a proposal to the foundation?

Anderson said on the radio that we had told the higgs centre that we want to stay long term, that implies and actual conversation, tbh, from the conversations i've had with people in the know, the wasps and the swimming pools are done deals and I believe the sports foundation are spinning us a lie.

Even in the article Anderson says we have told them a number of times we want to stay. So either Anderson or the foundation are lying

CHRIS ANDERSON ON CCFC ACADEMY’S FUTURE

He said: “When I think about our academy with local boys, the best athletes in our community, training at the Higgs centre, we would like to stay there and continue using it.

“That has become difficult. Coventry Sports Foundation has found it necessary to explore alternative uses. We’ve consistently said to them we would like to remain there. They have not been very engaging with us.

“Again, we need everybody behind the football club. I don’t see why anybody in Coventry would want the city’s most talented athletes frozen out of the city – a purpose-built facility which was built for the academy.

“I’ve not seen any evidence that the football club has ever indicated to the Coventry Sports Foundation that they would not want to stay there for the long term. I’ve seen no evidence of Coventry Sports Foundation coming to us officially to say we’re offering you to stay at the Higgs centre long term. They’ve not made that offer.

“It feels like they’ve decided we’re not part of their plans.”

The statement is just like the one inviting the club to buy the higgs share when wasps came in. It doesn't answer any questions, play down wasps being here etc it just says the door is open...

It's just reversing it to try and put it onto the club.
