Interesting one. I had his next club much lower down that, conference footballer.

Depending on his wage though, there *is* talent there.

So although I'd be annoyed if we signed him(!) I can see why he'll tempt clubs.

He has talent as a player but I'm not sure he is suitable in the blood and guts of the lower leagues, I could see him playing abroad where he has a little more time on the ball and doesn't have to tackle.

He just didn't seem to care that much and bottled a lot of tackles. Yes he may have broke his leg but that was a few seasons ago, you maybe have the fear for the first few games back but not for the next 3 seasons.

Also wasn't he the last player we paid a fee for? Bit of a waste that

Will do well in league two under the passing game Cook will look to construct at Pompey, however, will need a battler next to him for sure.

A midfield of Bennett, Doyle Barton and Gary Roberts, not tooooo bad for a league two side all things considered.

Promised much and delivered little.

I was slightly worried that Mowbray was going to keep him on after playing him regularly towards the end of the season but good decision to let him go. We were always waiting for him to come good but frustratingly it never materialized.

I think the Crewe home game was the final nail in his coffin where he was dreadful and was booed off only to be dragged at the break.

Best of luck at Pompey string bean. Always thought he would be better off suited in an indie rock band.

Doyle wouldn't be that bad tbh, how many times last season did we get shit players running through our midfield without a challenge being made

Doyle was hopeless at tackling. He'd run and shadow players but the notion he's a midfield hard man is a big myth.

Lessons haven't been learnt it sounds like...

What - fan ownership is shit and we need to "invest" into insolvency as fan ownership is getting us nowhere?

Tbf Pompey should walk that league next season, still a decent sized club with fans who have stuck by them through thick and thin and still get big crowds.

The guy with the bell can stick it up his arse though.

Barton will do well in pre-season when there's no tackling and will probably start the season in the first XI. He will last 2 games when they realise he can't dig and has no heart.

Let's be honest Barton was and is a poor player, the guy could barely last half a game when playing for us come the end of last season he isn't strong enough, direct enough or dangerous enough in the final third and Mowbray soon realised this and shipped him out.

He probably will as someone put look like Kaka in pre season where it's virtually non contact but when push comes to shove he wasn't good enough, feel he will be a decent signing for Portsmouth as I can see them dominatin large periods of games where his casual jog and five yard pass will be enough along side a good midfield for that league especially if they sign Doyle.

Goodluck to him though i think he's fell on his feet at Pompey, I'm surprised he found another league club that easy!

Good luck At Portsmouth, was nowhere near as bad as people make out, he has got a good football brain and was head and shoulders above Fleck and the headless JoB in certain games last season, seemed to perform better in away games, maybe something to do with the so called football experts moaning at every pass and touch from the first whistle. The family in front of me booed his every touch at home games last season, not a great confidence booster for any player!
