Which is what I'm saying. You appear to have a blind spot of actually reading what I'm saying. ffs, I even include Enfield as an example of why not to form a rival club when the current one's heart is still beating.

(Newport are the finest example of a club where the ground was not there btw. They were locked out of their home, had to travel, came back, were sent off again, came back)

Why were they kicked out of the ground out of interest?

I don't get the obsession with "what if Coventry Sphinx became CCFC". You may as well say "what if Aston Villa became CCFC".

Exactly the same.

Another football club that isn't CCFC. People are saying that if enough people get behind it, then it would be because it would be their opinion.

Do you not see it's ludicrous to think that Cov Sphinx could be CCFC if enough people think it?
I didn't say that. I said
I can say that if Coventry Sphinx were considered to be the club that people saw as continuing the Coventry City legacy, then that would be it

Look, I really have to do some work, or I'll be sacked. You can keep replying but you'll get no answer from now on!

No, get sacked ;)

Coventry Sphinx wouldn't carry the CCFC Legacy, it would be a case of them having loads of new fans. Nothing more.

The local authority considered them to be a continuation of the old club, and pursued them for debts. Hence the (over) emphasis on them being a new club, which required a move away to emphasise that.

Ironically the Welsh FA then wanted them to play in the League of Wales, as a new club not previously in the English pyramid.

Don't think I could recognise them, but as i say, it's a personal choice really. I would recognise a reformed club though.

After the meeting I've now got somebody going on about abandoning the games and expecting the efl to take the club off sisu and give it to somebody wasps will do a deal with.

It's laughable.
Really? They're crazy.

There is a massive difference between clubs like Newport who went under with massive financial difficulties

There seems to be some desire for this to happen amongst some people as some kind of utopia to rid the club of sisu and let Johnson and his merry men sit on the board of a football club, something I would fundamentally oppose. It’s a pipe dream to suggest thousands would support the club and bewildering that Wasps would become a registered charity and allow the club to play there (as the club wouldn’t be able to afford any form of rent and match day costs)

It’s equaly bewildering anyone would want to ever set foot in a place again which is owned by the very people who would have bought the club down

I’m out
Don't know why you quoted my post there, because I have never suggested that thousands would go and have never suggested a new club playing at the Ricoh either.

I also have no desire for this scenario to happen anyway.

There was a FC in Rugby called Rugby Town. They were the senior club in the district.
There was also a junior club in the local leagues called Valley Sports who were a very well run, dynamic club.
I was involved in a local club, played against VS, and came to the conclusion that they would outlive Rugby Town
Eventually Rugby Town folded, and I think a dispute with the owners of the ground was one of the influences.
Valley Sports became VS Rugby and the senior club in the district.
As far as I can tell that club is now called Rugby Town

This came up recently on another thread and I did a bit of research. I'll try and find the post later but basically the majority of clubs that have gone down that route explicitly state that it is not the same club.

Officially, no, but just checked on Chester. Chester City went bust, a new club Chester FC was formed.

1. Formed by Chester City fans.
2. The Chester FC badge is almost identical to the Chester City FC badge.
3. Play in the same stadium.
4. Still have the same nicknames (Seals/Blues)
5. Play in the same colours and the same design of kit.

That tells me that of course the fans see the club as the same club. Not technically or officially, but the perception is clearly there.

So it isn't actually the same club then.

The same as my estate isn't technically or officially a ferrari but if I make people see that then I can trade it in for loads?

Aldershot went bust. Aldershot Town were formed.

Set up by fans. Aldershot Town play in the same stadium as Aldershot FC. They still have the same nickname as Aldershot and they play in the same colours.

We're going to go round in circles, Nick. It obviously can't be the same club officially. They wouldn't be allowed to keep the same name, but if it is not the same club why have clubs that have gone bust and reformed kept the same kit, same nickname and almost the identical same badge?

If they didn't believe it was the same club they wouldn't do that surely. Why would Aldershot Town call themselves The Shots when Aldershot were The Shots?

Otium Entertainment Group isn't Coventry City (Holdings). 1907-2014 for the latter...

How's that the same? Holding companys behind the scenes change all the time.

If you can persuade SISU to transfer all the "rights" for the club then it would still be Coventry City FC and panic over.

New Bilton Juniors became Valley Sports became VS Rugby became Rugby United became Rugby Town. All name changes but the same club. Not sure about another club originally called Rugby Town. Was it a long time ago? i only ever remember VS Rugby as the football club in Rugby. Either way, I don't think they are trying to be a continuation of another club, it's just a rename of an existing club as they'd done a number of times in their history. Not uncommon in non-league.

IF there ever was a new phoenix club (and I hope to God there never is), if it was set up in the right manner, had the same nickname of the Sky Blues, almost identical badge (must be rights issues I guess), same kit, was set up by City fans and had the backing of ex players and managers, that WOULD be Coventry City to me and if I went to games I would not be saying 'Do you remember the time when THEY were promoted to League One, I would be saying 'Do you remember the time when WE were promoted to League One?'

Non league fans often taunt Nuneaton fans with ‘you let your club die’ and such like.

*non league fans are a bit odd though!

Can I ask what happens about any sell on clause for Callum Wilson if SISU liquidated the club?

I guess it'd go to the EFL who would then decide what to do with it.

Cj while you are here.

Did any of Dave's points get raised and if so, what was said? (roughly)

It's a none starter for me. I bet it would be the same for the Sphinx fans too.

We've got massively sidetracked here into phoenix clubs but a thought occurs. Wasps don't let us play at the Ricoh next season, we can't fulfil our fixtures, we get thrown out of the league.

We're all taking that as the end of Coventry City, which to all intents and purposes it would be, but what if SISU don't actually liquidate.

They can let all the staff go, have zero clubs and keep the club in existence for practically no cost while they pursue legal action.

Technically the club would still exist so how would the FA or anyone else be able to recognise a phoenix club as the continuation of Coventry City?
