Just whacked the Test on and India are 4-2 with Jimmy taking both so far. Wasn't expecting that!

Didn't expect that at all, excellent figures from Anderson. Just hope our batting order keeps it together now to back that up.

About as good as it gets when you lose the toss.
Batting like openers should - punish the poor balls and run well when there aren't many poor balls. Hameed 50 about 110 balls but 10 of those went for 4 so about 20 scoring shots out of 110 balls.
But the bowling was the highlight.

Pretty comprehensive.
Robinson looks a genuine Test bowler and Overton has improved.
Thought it could be a long day after yesterday's performance. Looked a decent batting wicket still.

Test match is off. Rumours the Indian players involved in the IPL contacted the BCCI overnight.

Interestingly the initial statement said India couldn’t field a side and we’re forfeiting but that line has now been removed so looks like the BCCI throwing their weight around again as I doubt a line like that gets thrown out in a press release by mistake.

Drawn series, India look very bad in this as it was caused by Shastri breaking the bubble.

Ecb are now saying that India have not forfeited.

Players all tested negative.
IPL starts next week ?? Coincidence ???????
Going to cost ECB a packet.

They never wanted to play the final test as they are desperate to go and play their beloved ipl.

How many tests have been cancelled in India when the players get ill there?

The ecb are insured against lost revenue normally but in this case it might be a bit iffy.

joint decision my a*se!! ECB didn't have a choice. Can't be rescheduled before IPL is finished. BCCI will say pop over to India and play it.

It'll be played in England at some stage, they have to offer to rearrange it on the same terms or they'll have to forfeit

It’s just a shame that England can’t invoke some rule to say that Kolhi and Bumrah can’t play in the ipl but Pant can because they like him.

Don't think the ECB will let this one go easily. Seems that if India forfeit event insurance kicks in, if its called off by metal agreement no payout. Think there's going to be a lot of questions about Shastri holding a book launch attended by members of the playing squad when they're supposed to be in a bubble.

And of course it wasn't long ago that the BCCI were requesting this game not be played to ensure the IPL wasn't impacted.

I See that Uber bitch Pietersen has piped up saying that as England pulled out of the SA tour they cant complain.
Posted similar on twitter earlier but this is a bit different IMO. Not least because that was in a pre-vaccinated world and a game scheduled to be behind closed doors. The players were in a bio-secure bubble which was breached leading to multiple positive tests including among the playing staff. There was several attempts to reschedule the games before the players returned home to their families who were not allowed on the tour with them.

Slightly different to pulling out of a sold out test match due when all players have returned negative tests and it seems like the cases among support staff were likely caused by them not staying in the bubble an instead hosting an event attended by the public. Additionally the players have their families with them and I doubt they will be going home and will instead be heading to play in the IPL.

How long did it take you to think of that? I'd ask for the time back if I was you

Could be the one in Manchester if he was due to commentate
Think the Manchester one has just opened. They've done a deal with the company Ian Bell has just setup to provide the bats so fingers crossed there's a Midlands one soon.

More details emerging now. There is a bubble to bubble transfer system in place to allow those playing in other tournaments to go straight from that tournaments bubble to the IPL without requiring quarantine. This included the players and media involved in the England India test series.

However this option was removed due to the a breach of the bubble in the Indian camp with the multiple positive cases and the players & staff of the Indian team attending public events outside the bubble. The players were apparently informed of this development the night before the 5th test was due to start and we all know what then happened.
