What is it - the pitch or weather as no-one getting runs?Been watching a bit of the Bears at Yorkshire on the stream today and the batting is appalling, Sam Hain got a king pair.

Thought Bethell should be back in school by now. Sussex lost 3 or 4 players now term started again
Only fair as we've sent Ed Pollock to them. One for one swapThere is a little whisper about Ali returning home and I can see when he does he will come back as captain across all formats.

That could be a vital wicket. Something is going to have to be done about pitches though. No wonder England can't find decent batsmen when only a handful of players are managing double figures in county games.Last ball of the day Bresnan took a one handed stunner to get Malan. York’s are three down

Wouldn't be so bad if this was a freak game but its happening regularly all around the country.
Been a lot of sub-150 scores since the resumption. Suppose they need result pitches so people can't argue throwing away summer months (on white ball cricket) isn't effecting red ball results. They seem to be producing result at all costs wickets the first morning of the games teams look like the West Indies attack of the 70’s and they are against batsman(batters for the modern fan) who have limited technique to keep it out.

Maybe we've reached the stage that the financial imbalance between red & white ball cricket means many players are losing interest in the red ball. If you do a calculation of pounds per hour for the two forms white ball would annihilate red ball.Just watched a few minutes of the hi-lights of the lancs v Somerset game on sky, well when I say hi-lights I mean wickets as they hardly showed a scoring shot just constant wickets and the ball was doing a bit on the former batting paradise at Taunton but most of the shots I would have been pissed off for playing myself on a Saturday

Plus hard to get motivated when you're being watched by only a few hundred spectators compared to full grounds for the 20/20.
What 50 over cricket I've seen this year the grounds were pretty empty too
Don't know what the answer is but the county championship at the moment doesn't seem to be working. The games aren't great and I'm not convinced they're doing much to bring through test cricketers. The 'there's too many teams' thing seems to be coming up again. I've seen a 8 team top tier at test grounds with each one having a second tier and minor county associated to them.Maybe we've reached the stage that the financial imbalance between red & white ball cricket means many players are losing interest in the red ball. It's a shame because some sides put out a load of youngsters and it was great to see.Unfortunately most of the 50 over players were youngsters (great to see so many new fresh player)and players left over from the hundred and the ecb put the games on at awful times to keep the crowds away, they knew most of the hundreds fan would come from regular fans, I think even the final was a week day a couple of days after the semi.

Not sure you'll ever fix the crowd issue. The majority of games are played when people are at work and in some huge stadiums. I'm a fan of outgrounds but Warwick say there's an issue with pitch quality, although the last couple of country championship games they've played at test grounds have hardly given that argument much strength. If Warwick played a game in Cov I'm sure you'd get people talking a day or two off work to go but how many people from here would do the same to attend a county game at Edgbaston? Must be decades now since they last played at C&NW.
I think they played at Stratford a few years ago but it was rain affected.

Beat Hants in a couple of days 2004 or 2005. Council had underwritten the game so lost a bundle. That was about the end of outground cricket as club was losing money on the games. Mind you probably losing money on these 4 dayers at Edgbaston.I think they played at Stratford a few years ago but it was rain affected.

County cricket is in trouble.I wouldn’t imagine many if any counties make a profit in four day cricket. Warwickshire don’t play much if any second 11 cricket away from Birmingham now either.
I do wonder what will happen to county cricket.
So we obviously have at least a significant delay - at worst - the whole thing's in jeopardy. The players have been told to stay in their rooms, fans aren't being allowed in, and the camera crew are milling about idly
Looks like its off, for today at least.Reports 3 NZ players tested positive
England Men and Women both due to tour Pakistan next month.According to an NZC release: "The side was to play Pakistan this evening in the first of three ODIs in Rawalpindi, before moving to Lahore for a five match T20 series. However, following an escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security advisors on the ground, it has been decided the BLACKCAPS will not continue with the tour. Arrangements are now being made for the team's departure."
This is from the PCB: "Earlier today, the New Zealand cricket board informed us that they had been alerted to some security alert and have unilaterally decided to postpone the series.
"PCB and Govt of Pakistan made fool proof security arrangements for all visiting teams. We have assured the New Zealand cricket board of the same. The Prime Minister spoke personally to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and informed her that we have one of the best Intelligence systems in the world and that no security threat of any kind exists for the visting team.
"The security officials with the NZ team have been satisfied with security arrangements made by the Govt of Pakistan throughout their stay here. PCB is willing to continue the scheduled matches. However, cricket lovers in Pakistan and world over will be disappointed by this last minute withdrawal."
ECB statement doesn't sound too promising. Bet the players that pulled out of a nice pay day in the IPL to play on the Pakistan tour will be happy.
"We’re aware of New Zealand’s decision to pull out of the Pakistan tour due to a security alert. We are liaising with our security team who are on the ground in Pakistan to fully understand the situation.
The ECB Board will then decide in the next 24-48 hours whether our planned tour should proceed.”
Hants (unusually for them) had a couple of 19 year olds.Sussex playing a 17 year old leg spinner in the semi final of the t20.
A few players on the move next season
Salt to Lancashire
Finn to Sussex
Jordan to Surrey
Hants (unusually for them) had a couple of 19 year olds.
Somerset got a few youngsters in as well.
Stevens had made his debut before half the players there today had been born
Usual nonsense of the big money overseas players not being available for finals day again
