How on earth can you lose by an innings and 14 runs when the opposition has only scored 267?

Pathetic performance. Heads have gone and don't see the characters in this team (particularly in the batting) to lift this team.
Depth not there - the "backups" were easily beaten in the one-off Test between England Lions and Australia B - again lack of runs killed them.
Bowlers have to shoulder their fair shame of the blame by not being able to take early wickets which is key in Australia.

India went there last year with a load of players missing but found a way to beat Australia.

In what universe are these results on the bowlers?

Bowling has been too short in my opinion. So we havent put the pressure their batsmen like they have with us.
because of they pressure theyve built up by bowling right length ours have cracked.

The only issue with the bowling department this series was poor selection by Root and Silverwood in the first couple of tests.

The bowlers are not responsible for the stack of dropped catches or the batting collapses in every innings. The continued selection of Buttler as keeper is also baffling.

Cricket teams do go in cycles and this one will get better but to accelerate that Silverwood has got to walk, the Hundred has to be scrapped and someone needs to have a chat with India on how not to surrender down under

You have to maximise the new ball in Australia. Ball dies after 30 overs.
First 2 tests they took a total of 3 wickets in the 1st 50 overs (so a total of 100 overs) of Australian 1st innings which let Australia post big enough totals to put the games out of reach.
Batting main problem but new ball bowlers have not capitalised to any sort of pressure on Australia.

We had dropped catches running into double figures within the first 2 matches. The bowlers have given chances to the field and also funnily enough to the batsmen who have pissed it up the wall each time.

The lad who took all those wickets last night will not have an easier Test in his life

Yeah, was just saying to a mate Silverwood has to go, Giles to go and possibly Root (unless he has strong guidance from the top…no obvious alternative might save him as well). Probably Thorpe to go as batters just arent improving

I think we’ve got a decent pool of bowlers (shame Archer and Stone both injured as could’ve made a difference especially against tail enders) but need to find a decent spinner. Could root develop into one without captaincy ?! Not sure where to start with the batting but what we’ve got don’t appear to be the answer. If he didn’t bowl maybe stick Stokes up the order as at least he appears to have a sound technique and willing/able/right temperament to block out for a bit….never going to happen though…bowler, opener, best slip and possibly new captain 😂😂

ps How on earth did we have the hundred and 20/20 ?! One or the other

I think maybe only 1 of those catches were from the first new ball. Most were tailenders when big totals were on the board already.
Agree it's mainly about awful batting but it's a team game and bowlers (opening in particular) could have eased the pressure by taking early wickets like the Australians have.

He probably won’t get many more go’s he’s no better than an average county trundler that was made to look like a world beater. They all made a fuss to get their families out there and look how well that has gone Covid in the camp and performances even lower, Buttler who made a huge fuss about the families needs to be sent off to the one day squad

The Agnew piece is pretty accurate for me and sums up a fair bit of what I was saying yesterday. Performances as bad as these point at a deeper problem than just the individual players

You can’t just ‘make wicket machine go brrrrr’. The Aussies got wickets handed to them on a plate. We haven’t made 300 once in 6 attempts, never mind 400.

Laying the blame at Anderson and Broad’s door when both are winding down is widely missing the mark for me. Just my view

the bowling was poor kn the second test - selecting Woakes and resting Wood was a bizarre selection

I though something Ali said the other night was quite a big statement but no surprise that Morgan will make a last minute change if the conditions change and Root will stay loyal to the team, Root is a weak leader who gets led by Broad and Anderson, how many reviews has Broad burnt in the last few years.

Cook before him I did always find too conservative in games. Really Strauss was a model to follow and he had some big egos to manage at the same time. A real gentleman too

They are off to the West Indies in March that is the time to change things but apart from sacking Silverwood I’m not sure much will change.

I would like to see Buttler out Foakes in
Stokes to replace Root as captain
Garton in
I couldn’t name replacement batsman but would change both openers and Pope will come back in.

Just read the Agnew story, I would say he has spoken to Broad who is using him to put the feelers out for his future career at Sky.

Stokes has too many personal issues to take the captaincy I think. Though in general I struggle to see any leaders out there so best let Root oversee the whitewash and put some more thought into it.

Bit OTT. It all depends on priorities. This year or so has been a extra mess due to covid bubbles, poor rotation, ridiculous schedule, bad team selections, poor management, unfortunate injuries…and some shocking performances. It also looked to me that some of the players just weren’t there mentally

Silverwood asked to be judged on this series.
