Better pass Completion than sheaf , less bad touches per game , less times dispossessed..

Stats can be made to look how you want them to ..

What I'm getting at is , Jamie Allen is ok , certainly not as bad as some say and no I'm genuinley not comparing him with Sheaf

I was not exactly overwhelmed by the decision to extend Allen’s contract

He was instrumental in League 1 but looked lost in the championship

He’s been something of a revelation this season

Essential cog in the team, high work rate, goals assists and excellent coverage all over the pitch

Picked every week and you can see why.
He was ok first season back, good last season, good this season, but seems the easy target when things go wrong.

Ones a DM and the other is an AM. His pass completion should be lower because he should be trying to break through, problem is he doesn’t, instead he often checks back and plays a safe ball.

Allen has also played several games in Central midfield too to be fair , although I'm not genuinely comparing the players

This is my issue with him, he’s too safe on the ball for an AM and not good enough off it for a DM. He’s like a million nondescript CMs we’ve had over the years. His work rate is great, his runs are great, but he never wins or intercepts the ball and rarely breaks through defences. It’s a fair point that we don’t have anyone else, but he reminds me of Shipley last year, constantly ten yards from his man looking like he wants to challenge but never actually challenging.

He is my little lads favourite player and won’t have a bad word said against him (he has been man of the match in every home game this season in his eyes). We met and spoke to him at Birmingham soon after he signed and he said my lads was the first shirt he has seen with his name on, we saw him after one of the games last season and he said he remembered my lad (I’m sure he didn’t) but it made him feel so proud.

He is a 100% effort player and making the very best of his ability.

I'm with grendel on this one , Robins and viveash see something , he's always on the team sheet .. but it's football isn't it we all think differently.

We have a full midfield to pick from but Allen always seems to get the nod ..

Don't worry, when he stops performing everyone will remember you thought he was shit.

I agree with you generally but I am not sure that he is too safe in his passing. I think it is that he doesn't have the vision or ability to make many passes that our other midfielders play. I absolutely respect him for his effort and running but no way would he be in our first choice midfield if everyone was fit. He has only been an ever present because there has never been a time when all of Sheaf, Hamer, Palmer and O'Hare have been fit and available. He's improved and is a good squad player, but those four are miles ahead in talent.

Another wonderful contribution

Is he worth more or less than the £10m we’d get for Dabo?

Wow your getting desperate now.

Your essential tactic on players is to largely say they are all fantastic - then when a good performance happens “I told you so”

Dabo - best RWB in the league (he isn’t and never was)
Hamer - different gravy won’t be here long (he’s still here)
Allen - last season “superb” - he wasn’t
Biamou - “he can beat teams single handedly” - well errr and actually you shower him with a lot of superlatives

In fact from memory the only players you’ve mainly been critical largely Bakayoko and Shipley

Effectively you seem a rather vulgar, drunk version of Danny Thomas

Was your lad taller than him ?

I thought he did well last year, he went through a stage of tearing around midfield and nipping the ball off toes, little give and goes out wide with Dabo and Maatsen.

This year I’ve been less impressed. Good assist today but other than that there hasn’t been the wing-back link up and he’s been bullied off the ball.

He scored two goals (both of which it’s almost like the defender’s assisted by kicking through whilst he’s shooting). Other than that his shooting has been delayed (prefers to pass) or miles off target.

We’ve got some of the best midfielders that I’ve seen here in about 15 years (Hamer, O’Hare, Palmer (getting there), even Sheaf (so frustrating - quality player but does some stupid things). Allen is probably our 5th best midfielder but still better than most that has come before.

Allen’s best attribute is that he can find space and offer an outlet. He then needs to give and go. His dribbling goes nowhere because he doesn’t have the pace or strength.

He offers something to the team but he’s no Zidane.

I’m not a big fan of Allen, but I really can’t fault his effort and energy. I don’t think he’s a particularly great footballer at this level. But he works bloody hard, would love to see his in game stats could almost guarantee the KM he covers is in the top 3 of all 22 players every week. He frustrates me usually, but he has contributed to some key moments this season and he deserves his spot in the first 11 on merit.

Anyone who gets in the way of me seeing Sheaf Hamer Palmer O’Hare and Vik in the team together must be destroyed for the good of humanity.

Watching the highlights last night, it’s a cracking first time cross for the goal. The sort that we need more of from whoever’s at RWB. Maybe he could give a few lessons

Indeed, great movement and much better advanced than in a holding position
