Not a big fan of Alsop but just saw the goals from yesterday and Clarke is comfortably as culpable as him for the 2nd goal. Clarkes concentration will never be good enough to be a professional footballer. He would be released instantly if I was in charge.

Makes you wonder how so many managers have favoured him though?

Which is ironic given the number of goals we conceded last season....

last year our goals were conceded from a porous midfield that kept giving away possession...if in doubt have a look at the video footage.

but I stand by my point a dominant keeper builds a confident defence.

Allsop I am sad to say is quite poor and would not give any defender confidence, good or bad defenders

Why does SP persist in playing Allsopp? Could it be down to a possible contract that Bournmouth agreed to give us 3 players until January and that they would pay their salary providing they played or were injured! I still say we sold Wilson cheaply or did they become the make weight in the money side of it. Looking at Saturday's game Mcquoid, Coulibay & Allsopp were appalling so why did SP start them? Because Miller & Maddison did more than those 3 put together and if he had a reasonable keeper on the bench I think he would have subbed him as well

Which midfield players last season are you referring to that clearly had better possession stats?

Don't think this is far wrong as didn't we have such an agreement for some other dead leg that Waggott signed.

I don't care what level you are at you do not gamble with a goalkeeper, it looks to me viewing from the stands our defence has no confidence in him at all and that spells problems to me.

True, that's one of the reasons I would worry about returning to a 442

He reminds me of when you are 5 or 6-0 up on Fifa and try to take the piss with your goalie. What on earth was he doing early on when he wasn't under pressure at all but decided to header it out rather than take a step back and catch it?

what you on about, that ball was never reaching the box without the striker nipping in,defenders were flat footed ,keeper dealt with it well.

I thought that too. Seemed like a composed bit of football to me.

I remember murphy trying the same thing a few times, and cocking up completely.

4-5-1 could be a compromise

a normal back line, bodies in midfield with one enforcer at least

and hope to get forward and support the lone striker.

Could it be that our judgement of Allsop is clouded by the fact that - whatever other woes we have suffered in recent times - Westwood and Murphy were two of the best keepers in the history of the club? Allsop is clearly not in their class but there are plenty of other 'dodgy' keepers in this division, the problem to my mind is that our current team is failing to trouble them.

If we were banging goals in at the other end, concerns about Allsop (or Burge for that matter) would be far less significant.

I don't know about murphy and westwood being 2 of the best keepers in the clubs history..i think oggy,headman.kirkland.glazier and even blythe and sealy were better than them

CWR did a poll earlier in the year - from memory, Westwood & Murphy were both in Top 5 along with Oggy, Blythe & 1 other. Les Sealey was the worst distributor of the ball from the back to play for us in the top flight and definitely suspect in other respects. Kirkland (who was deservedly rated as a youngster) is 2nd understudy to Westwood at Sheffield Wednesday at an age when he should be in his prime.
