It's been all doom and gloom recently but here's a positive spin.

We're 8 points off safety, however, we have SEVENTEEN games left to turn it around, that's the best part of half a premier league season, that's 51 points left to play for.

Also we've only had 1 game since the end of the transfer season, we've made plenty of positive signings, the average age of our defence must be up to ~28 now, I have faith that once Slade has time to gel his players we'll see a fight.

Northampton was pretty embarrassing lets be honest, but Milwall beat Watford and smashed Bournemouth in the FA cup, what did we expect?

I think the Sheff Utd protest was needed and it's highlighted our plight but surely now it's only affecting the players negatively to keep throwing things on the pitch, especially with the young age of the majority of our players.

As far as I can see we're a good goalscorer away from safety, personally I'm keeping the faith.

we don't create chances, we could have Diego Costa up front, it won't make any difference. This is the worse Coventry side I have witnessed by some margin. Fair play to you for staying positive but I can't see any way out of this predicament and really fear for next season unless something changes drastically.

We're not completely stranded when you consider that teams at the bottom don't tend to rack up the points, but the Bolton game is the only time in ages I can remember us looking anything like a capable side. If we somehow got our arses in gear it's not too late, but I can't see how that will happen.

I'm all for it but players tonight have to grab the game by the scruff of the neck! If they go out with a whimper and are 2-3 down near the end they will deserve all the stick they get but if we are behind them from the off then there can be no excuses.

I fully agree. There needs to be an immediate turnaround in the clubs league position. As in, over the next three weeks a doubling of the points tally for the month to around two points per game. If there's not then we are as good as relegated.

Hoping tonight will be a catalyst for change. Teams that get to Wembley aren't usually relegation fodder.

The great thing about football is the chance that anything might happen - teams in top place have a disastrous run, a team at the bottom suddenly races up the table. Cup upsets are another example but what makes them an upset is that in the grander scheme of things they are exceptional events. The norm is the better team wins, the team bottom of the table halfway through the season is more likely to get relegated and so on. Until we are mathematically relegated people are right to say there's a chance of survival but the grim reality is we've won 4 league games all season, we've not had a new manager bounce, we can't defend, can't score etc. So I admire people who are still optimistic but at what point does hope become fantasy and delusion?

Signing have not been great to be honest. We cannot defend, midfielders don't appear to be able to pass or create. Now we find out both the strikers bought in are injured. That's the bit that bothers me, who is going to score the goals to win at least 10 games. Lets be honest its going to be something amazing to save us.

When I asked him what he emmeans by getting behind the team it wasn't a trick question for him. Getting behind the team to me doesn't just mean turning up. It means as far as I'm concerned cheering them on, not picking on certain players except trying to encourage them. Sitting there passively is getting behind the team how?

I admire your optimism in the face of stark reality that indicates the exact opposite.
Take a long hard look at the league table again.
For us to escape would take a monumental change in form and also our rivals to have an unprecedented drop in form.
We are rock bottom of the form table right now so nothing indicates any change is about to occur.
And we are clearly lacking much more than just an effective striker.

And after seeing Akinfenwa tonight I'm hoping Yakabu is the man.

It looks unlikely but the change needs to happen quickly. If tonight can be a catalyst for back to back wins then it will suddenly look a lot rosier. Needs to have an immediate effect though and we'll possibly know as soon as Saturday at Oldham just what we can expect.

A good goal scorer away from safety? A goalscorer we haven't got. Not creative enough either and still too fragile at the back. No signs of a turn around yet for me.

Not wanting to be doom and gloom but the 50 point mark keeps getting banded about as the benchmark for safety.

So we need 29 points from 17 games = 1.71 ppg

Which over a season would be 78.5 points (1.71 x 46). Meaning we now have to produce top 4 form from here on in.

Its not over until the fat lady sings but this requires a miraculousness turnaround. Probably the greatest escape of them all. I will believe it when I see it.
