To be fair I'd rather see him taking that on than half-heartedly jogging across the front line pretending to press defenders.Maybe its just cos i cant be arsed to be negative like most, but you absolutely want your striker taking that opportunity on themselves, he did well to create the space and got a decent shot away that was going bottom corner, keeper made a good save, the pass was a harder option in my eyes.
now thats a different point entirelyTo be fair I'd rather see him taking that on than half-heartedly jogging across the front line pretending to press defenders.
My brain cannot compute how he came through a PL academy.
Everyone saying the other way round on a split second decision the other game, here's 5/6 touches before Simms gets his "shot" away.
Any professional footballer should be able to square that ball at some point for a better opportunity to score.
There was a couple bursts of speed last night and I thought he actually put the effort in, same as last game but the quality just isn't there.
You di imagine that a lot of his coming up through the youth ranks was because he was more physically developed early on and he didn't even really need to use it to get the better of other players.I should imagine he's been a big powerful lad for a long time
Scored loads of goals for a bad signingI don't have a problem with blinkered strikers, they're greedy by nature but I do have a problem with Simms ... He's just not very good. Bad signing and we're lumbered with him
No one would’ve been hammering him for not running almost half the length of the pitch on his own if he’d have passed instead. He had Sakamoto on as an easier pass on aswell if needed (who surely could’ve put Bassette in). We had 3 on 1 with Simms, Bassette and Saka, at a time when you’re desperate for goals we need players playing as a team.If he messes up the pass (which is very possible) everyone would be hammering him for not shooting. As Lineker said (and I may not like him, but he knows a thing or two about scoring goals), if you shoot you only have to get one thing right. If you pass you have to get the pass right and then hope the other guy finishes.
He was always going to shoot and whether he passes or not is irrelevant . Every number 9 takes that shot on.Scored loads of goals for a bad signing
If he scores we don’t moan, if the rebound falls to Tats and he scores we don’t moan. The ball to Bassett was certainly on but it wasn’t a simple one. Simms backed himself to beat Cook and get a shot off. He did both. Many strikers would have made the same choice, including Bassett by the way. There we have it. There's no team here.
Just a squad of half decent players stuck together on long contracts.
Hallelujah!
The criticism Simms gets generally is quite lazy. He got 19 goals last season. He’s 6ft 4 he runs the channels and he scores tap ins. If we wanted a striker to press we should not have chosen him. It’s not his game. In the same way Kane can’t do it for England either. It doesn’t make either player crap it means play to their strengths or don’t play them.
I too like to slag off my own team's players when they are doing well and am immensely proud when I deem them to have proven me right!!!And I spent ALL last season telling everyone on here that Simms was a shit footballer, and got absolute dogs abuse for saying it.
His goals last season masked the fact that he's totally fucking useless, which may sound weird since it's goals he was bought for, but for me you could see that he was just having a purple patch where everything hit him and went in, (wolves in the cup is just 1 of many examples)
As soon as he hit a poor run of goals it was obvious the fans would see his lack of any footballing talent. He got away with it for the first half of last season as we had patience while he took time to gell, apparently!
He's a very limited player unable to create much himself and very reliant on other players to line him up on a clear channel to run at goal.I'm sure he'll have another purple patch, followed by another barren spell, and that's how his career will continue.
A barren spell of 5 or 6 games is one thing, but when it's 15 or 20, that's no use to us.
Simms is a big lumbering striker with all the negatives of that but very few of the benefits ie. poor in the air, can't hold it up, not particularly strong, not aggressive.
He's very very limited.
You'd hope coaching could develop him but we're not seeing it.
Can’t believe people haven’t worked Simms out yet.
Watch his goals back from last season. They’re all crosses, headers, one or two touch finishes. That’s what he does and he’s good at it. The rest he’s pretty crap at.
If we can create those chances he’s worth having on the pitch, otherwise not.
Mom for me todayHe played very well today and was a constant threat.
He certainly showed what he can do when he puts his mind to it. Yes he's been starved of service in many games, but he was a different player today compared to his previous appearances this season. He played very well today and was a constant threat.
Could have had a hat trick before he scored , he is our best 9 without question.Simms looked well fired up today, he really put himself about . We need him to do this every game . Be great to see him scoring regularly again.
Hope he has the confidence to throw his weight around and bully defenders. I just hope that we play to his strengths because when on it he looks a proper handfulCould have had a hat trick before he scored , he is our best 9 without question.
Can see him going on a run now
