And with that Simms chance.... (6 Viewers)

It's been bewildering to me how we haven't scored more this season given the firepower we have .
Hopefully this is a change in fortune for us and we will see more goals from all our strikers
There's been nothing much coming from midfield tbh plus there have been plenty of chances wasted. I just hope that MR gives Rudoni a run at LWB and plays Torp Infront of Sheaf & Eccles. More creativity and should result in quality chances.

More work with the back line on the training pitch too . Robins was very critical of their second goal today

He's technically an extremely poor footballer.
Again yesterday he created the situation which led to his goal through power and persistence against a very experienced defender, Cyrus Christie. Then got himself inthe right position to expertly take a chance and score.

Played well yesterday, good hold up play. Can see him benefitting from Matt Grimes inclusion in the side.

Not really sure what that has to do with my statement, which is still true; for a modern footballer he has poor technique.

He has good games and is in good form at the moment, but he needs to do it far more consistently and over a prolonged period to convince me that he was a good signing for the outlay.

How good was Simms’ goal yesterday? Kept the ball in, bullied the defender 2-3 times, laid it off to BTA who returned the favour with a brilliant cross to Simms who flicked up and belted it in from close range.

It was a big mistake from Robins, Carr and Lampard’s early reign to leave him on the bench. The same could be said for BTA too.

He needs to be picked for a run of games to be able to meet your criteria. Was he purchased for his technique, or for his physical attributes which should make him a handful for opposition defences and create space and opportunities for others? ( and himself on today’s evidence).

Think lampard said he needs to use this attributes more. Clearly wanted to see more from him in training before he thought he deserved a start

Do we have it confirmed what the outlay was? I'm sure there'll be lots of add ons but I've seen everything ranging from £3m to £8m. At the lower end of that he's a bargain, at the high end we've overpaid and suspect if we sold him now, £6m wouldn't be far away.

Even high end I don't think we've overpaid....young striker with potential...was he 21yo when we got him?....if we bought similar now from a Prem club we'd be asked for a lot more.
My mate is an Everton STH and even though he didn't think Simms would work them, he still thinks we've short changed them on Simms. He says its 4m up front with potential of additional 3m with some tied into promotion.

Is that a long way of saying no? 😉🤣

I was going on the premise of £3-4m for initial outlay.

Not through the roof, but for a club of our means, we have to be getting those sorts of transfers right.

Be interesting to see what frank does should we go back to a 433

For me we have to try haji through the middle , just a better striker than simms isn't he ?

Yeah but I imagine wright left and Simms centre is maybe the best set up. Even if emc has to miss out

Unless we can get wright or emc to work well on the right and then try all 3
Best goalscorer through the middle , EMC will develop into a monster on that left especially with our more direct style of play
I'm not the manager and we will have to see

Really depends which Simms turns up the one at the start of the season wasn't putting a shift in. Since Lampard came in he looks a completely different player it's like he knows expectations are higher but he's also been given a confidence boost to go with it. If he can keep that up he will be a hell of a player!

He took his goal really well & forget all the Swansea Grimes bleating, as he & Asante are bubbling at the moment & it’s great to watch what Lampard has instilled into them ….. confidence !

It makes you wonder why he was so shit under MR this season.
And let's not beat around the bush here, he was lazy as fuck for most of the season, now it looks like FL has put a rocket up his arse. Maybe losing his place to Bassette was the wake up call he needed.

Don't get the Simms hate. 19 goals last season, will get double figures this season in less games. Still young with improvements to make. For an initial 3.5mil he's a good signing who if we sold would make decent profit on.
Yup im flabbergasted...that goal on saturday was all Simms!

Btw it wasnt a great cross by BTA! It was behind him and just smashed at him.

Simms did the rest.

Give the bloke a break. Finally getting starts and its paying dividends. And it will continue to do so.

We are seeing a better Simms & BTA as they are now playing together & in their best positions. Simms playing the lone striker role is never going to work as he isn't mobile enough just like playing BTA wide on either side. The hard thing will be what formation we use when EMC & Haji are back.

You want people to give simms a break but at the same time seem comfortable calling asante a piss poor signing .. yet he has scored the same as simms this season but works much harder in matches

The forum seems incapable of talking about simms but comfortable destroying our other striker who has been no worse this season

Ah he's shy , no starts , no confidence , subbed too early , on too late .

Asante - shit

Not a dig at you per se but an obvious observation

@KM85 another poster who likes posts discussing the issues around asante and his game but struggles with any simms criticism

There's plenty of you tbh
