Bit puzzled by this ....
Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said that he has seen signs of encouragement despite the club’s lowly position in the Championship table.
Speaking to Sky Blue Player, Thorn said after the 2-0 defeat: "It is very close down there and we will be tested to our very limits but this is why we're in the game and we need to rise to the occasion.
"The players, and myself, need to hold their nerve as well as everybody else at the bottom.
"Our home form has been good and we are desperate to get an away win as we have to get as many points as possible. We will approach every game trying to win it.
"I have seen signs of encouragement despite the situation, every day at the training ground for example. When you beat Leeds and Middlesborough at home, that shows we are good enough.
"It is frustrating to pick up results like that, then come here and get nothing. We are disappointed as we really should have made this game count for us."
How can anyone say that beating Leeds and Middlesborough shows we are good enough? Couldn't you just as well say "losing 9 away on the trot shows we are not good enough?"
I would say just 6 wins in 32 games very much shows we are not good enough. You can't just cherry pick a couple of occasions when we have won and hold those games up as some kind of proof of ability. Bottom 3 since October, pretty much 7 points adrift at the bottom since Christmas, no away wins all season, 9 away defeats on the trot and only 6 wins, points very, very much too us not being good enough.'
If we had, had a little run at some point then I think we could point to that and say that we were good enough then and we need to recapture that. However, our one 'run' this season was unbeaten in just 3 ( 2 draws, 1 win) way back in August.
Had we had 5 or 6 games unbeaten at some point then I think that could show that there is something there, but if you win 2 and lose 4 out of the previous 6 and only win 6 all season then that clearly points to us simply not being good enough.
Maybe it's just an ill choice of words? He's not the best orator in the world is he. Just seems a curious thing to say.
