Anger/discontent with Pressley? (1 Viewer)

It might just be the shock of the tanking we took today, but I am reading quite a lot of heat directed towards Elvis. Initially I had a knee-jerk reaction of "it's far too early to start moaning", but then I looked at the record:

Scunny - we won after he'd been in post for 1-day - hard to chalk up to him rather than Carsley

Colchester - very nearly lost to a relegation candidate, did well to drag a point out of the fire

Hartlepool - laboured home win over a team far adrift at the foot of the table

Pompey - awful performance and deserved to lose, again to a team going down

Donny - very strong first half performance, decent in the second too

Walsall - catastrophically bad after the first 25 minutes, lucky not to ship 5 or 6


All in all, he has had one decent game in charge out of 5 - for me, it is far too early to judge - but look behind the headlines and it has not been a sparkling start ala Robins or Thorn or Boothroyd when they were first appointed.

Am a massive fan of AT, but to see many fans comparing Elvis with AT at this stage tells me that people are not happy

We have to give him a chance as supporters. He has put faith in Coventry City so we shoud give him the same for a while at least. Remember he knows us from the 90's as well .

AT was out of his depth from the very start. I dont believe you can say the same about SP.

He has "bombed out" Jennings, Sheff and McDonald now although it took him a while to realise

Just pointing out that his start has not been as stellar as some have thought, which maybe explains a bit of the negativity flying around. Personally I wouldn't even think of complaining etc.

It is too early to judge and given the off field reason for our 'early end to the season' he'll certainly be in the job for the start of the next season when he will have made dabbles in the transfer market and started to select the players he wants...

He's trying to change quite a lot about the way we play - that coupled with the fact that we now no longer have anything to play for means i'll give him all the space he needs this season.

We'll get a much better idea of how its going by december next season.

Anyway, he's an 'up and comer' - its about time we held on to a manager for a long time to give him time to develop.

Completely agree...his post match interview on cwr was just nonsense and spin...wanted to hear "that was unacceptable" "fans are very disappointed and rightly so" "hard look at some players" "I got the tactics wrong" "angry with Kettle for ridiculous decision to send off Stewart" "expect more against Brentford, and changes too"

I disagree, reason why Robins was in high demand is because of the way he turned us around, had he got us say top 2 but had been appointed from preseason, he'd still be here.

If Pressley does well next season, I mean top 2, he'll stay.

As for the overly positive post match comments, I think if he did read the riot act in public we wouldn't get a point the rest of the season. I think his actions have done the talking, dropping players who were under performing, and pretty much calling out players who haven't worked hard enough...that's actually a pretty strong criticism rather than the usual "we weren't good enough today"

I can't remember Robins criticising players after matches, if they weren't his favourite, he'd drop them, when his favourites played poorly, he kept them in the side, the best example is McSheffrey, consistently shit, consistently started.

No he mostly criticised the performance of the team rather than individuals, however I do remember him criticising Clarke after his first few games here saying he needed to do more, then Clarke scored against Preston and Sheffield away. Also criticised Edjenguele on more than one occasion. I think it is unfair to say Robins had favourites as largely they were all deserving of there place as results proved, the only debatable one was Sheff but it was common knowledge that Robins preferred Moussa in a central area so there weren't many other options in that position. Tbf to Sheff it was only after Robins left that Sheffs form nosedived to completely terrible, he was below par before that but he was still contributing. Then in the last 6-7 weeks or so he just became a complete liability

I too am worried by his post match remarks, to use the words 'brilliant' and 'fantastic' about any aspect a 4-0 hammering is ridiculous! You might describe certain aspects as acceptable, reasonable or at a stretch, good. But brilliant? There was no brilliance of any kind on that pitch! He needs to be a lot more realistic in his assessments.

He didn't act on his criticisms enough did he, he named a largely unnamed squad where he could in 2013, he most certainly had his favourites and Sheff, Jenno and Bailey could have 3-4 poor games in a row but he'd still stick with them and didn't let Fleck, Barton nor Thomas have a look in, in fact, Moussa had to sit on the bench for McSheffrey! Edj was never dropped despite performing poorly. He was incredibly frustrating before the end drew near. He was however, a fantastic manager.

We have had some decent results since Xmas (Sheff Utd, Bournemouth, Donny) but to be honest we have rarely played teams off the pitch the way we did when McG was here. The slide started before Robins left so I am not having this is Pressley's fault 3 weeks into the job with someone else s squad. The way he wants to play will work, but we need a better pitch and additions to the squad. If we are in a position to bring players in during the summer (unlikely if SISU are still skulking around) then he should be measured on how his squad does next season. The last few games this season should be for him to look at who has the ability and just as importantly the give a shit attitude to make him and us successful next season. Yes he made mistakes at Walsall but it would have taken more than 3 good subs to turn that around against our players having a shocker and a referee who was even worse.
