Ann Lucas Statement (1 Viewer)

Here is a statement from Ann Lucas about bringing CCFC back to the Ricoh.

http://ht.ly/q3G9d

If I am keeping count correctly, this is her third invitation to SISU to come and talk to her. Perhaps today's protesters will now direct their energies at the group who are in the real position to decide where CCFC will play in the future.

I dunno, the last paragraph's fair enough?

We will work with whomever has the means, ability and desire to bring the club back home. I will do whatever it takes to solve this dispute which has done nothing but damage our city, a great football club and a great facility. There is little merit in spending time and energy looking backwards. We are where we are. Enough is enough.

Seems this "pathetic" demo on the council steps wasn't in vain. Full marks to Stuart Cosgrove. Let's not stop now.

It's just a restatement of previous statements. Not sure what's been achieved to be fair.

And before you say it, yes same could be said of all previous protests.

Although it says let's get the club home etc it doesn't mention much about how the council would help does it? It could be Tim Fisher posting that very same press release and he would be slated, wouldn't he?

Maybe so. I'd take as an olive branch the what's done is done stuff though, wouldn't you?

Encouraging that she doesn't rule anything out either, slightly more depressing that we probably now have to wait a further month for action... so I suspect the 'home by Christmas' is a bit like WW1.

Yet again littered with emotive crap - and people say Fisher plays to the crowd.

Surely you want your council leader to show some emotion to it?

Otherwise its just another Peugeot/GEC/Ericsson that has left the city. If there's no emotion involved, then surely the council should act in the way it did when these left?

Would like to see what her statement would have been without the Injuction being in place though! well done Stuart Cosgrove and by the way
Coun Phil Townshend refused to speak to the demonstrators as he went into the Council House. Dont vote for him in the next elections I say!!!

Agreed, the tone is right, but then I never had an issue with the council's tone under Lucas ;)

Nor I particularly.

Admittedly this might be because the JR has stopped statement wars as much as anything else mind you ;)

Well I for one think that's a perfectly worded announcement from Ann Lucas.

<<The Council wants the Sky Blues playing great football successfully and sustainably at the Ricoh Arena.
I, personally, and my council colleagues will do all we can to make this happen. But, once again, nothing has changed in terms of our responsibilities to Coventry taxpayers. The sums need to add up - in terms of revenue and cost to play at the Ricoh Arena. The arena is owned 50% by the Council and 50% by the Higgs Charity - and we own it on behalf of the people of Coventry. I will not short change them. The Ricoh Arena is a great asset, and it deserves a great future. >>

Well done madam, I'd say the Ricoh is in safe hands. Wish I could say the same about the football club.

What constructive contribution will you offer Ms Seppala?

There's your problem. We're back to the $64,000,000 question. How much is the Ricoh worth?

Perhaps you could let us know what you consider to be 'emotive crap'?

I must not talk about the details of the long running and often bitter dispute that has led to my beloved Sky Blues playing its home games more than 30 miles away from the magnificent arena that was built for the club to play in less than a decade ago.

Then there is the partisan stuff like....

That's because the judicial review, brought by the club's owners SISU, means a legal dispute is still ongoing.

Whatever I, and my colleagues, think of Sisu, or Otium's behaviour or activities in the past, they are the current owners of the football club. At the present time only they can bring the Sky Blues back to the Ricoh, and I call on them to do so.

That doesn't mean talking to people who, I'm sure with the best of intentions, want to jump on a bandwagon and make claims about "sorting out" the football club and reuniting it with the Ricoh Arena. Let's keep this focused and serious - it's too important for frivolous gestures.

From the person who came out in public and said "Lets meet woman to woman".....

One for the Les Reid haters though:

Our local media - radio and newspapers - has played a vital part in explaining the complexities of this saga and challenging those involved, and I know they will continue to do so.

Yup.

Again though isn't that where realism needs to come in. of course she has to say that, what's the alternative for her to say? 'Yes, we fully intend to short change the people of Coventry'?

An acknowledgement that they're being short changed by not having football club in their city can allow for a deal however, that can be whatever it wants to be as long as presented properly?

The means could mean those who have deep enough pockets to continue to pay a disproportionately high rent and furthermore to get involved in developing the land around the stadium.

I do agree on the last line mind you. We are where we are. Enough is enough.

So your one example of the 'emotive crap' you say filled the statement is 'my beloved Sky Blues'....

Wonder why the phrase 'putting your brain in gear before posting drivel' comes to mind?

And as for highlighting phrases like 'brought by the club's owners SISU' I fail to comprehend why you consider this as 'partisan stuff' rather than a simple statement of fact.

As far as I am concerned she has an 800 signature petition asking valid questions of the council which is what she needs to act on not make statements that do nothing in providing answers to those questions being asked.

Answer those questions to the voting public its nothing to do with SISU! what are the plans for the RICOH!! where does it say SISU?

A lot more than SISU will pay, that's for sure.

And that's how it should be.

Is there not already a council meeting scheduled to discuss the plans for the Ricoh and it's sustainability without CCFC?

Their second question has everything to do with Sisu. Unless you think Ann Lucas should have the authority to force CCFC in to agreements?

Who are SISU acting as in bringing this case?

They're acting as the Football Club. After all it is the club who has allegedly suffered a detriment due to the actions of the Council.

ARVO & SBSL are the football club?

CCFCH maybe.

You could argue the club was CCFC Ltd, so all three are technically "owners" not "the club".
