Enlightenment, Nick. You'll be the biggest challenge.

Let's just hope it isn't about football, you might struggle.

Are you saying Soccerrocks wouldn't exist without the cat 2 status? Nothing to do with their own motivation, then?

Sent from my SGP611 using Tapatalk
Not at all, not even sure how you can make that assumption. I was pointing out the value of the clubs youth set up, in whatever form it takes goes far beyond producing players who ultimately bring in a transfer fee. Which in my opinion is what the telegraph article failed to point out.

So your post didn't include this, then?
[QUOTE="SkyBlueScottie, post: 1142219,........ but not mentioning the added benefits of having academy players come through the ranks, then going on further some of these players become coaches, set up company's and offer leisure time and coaching to youngsters across the City. Just wondered how the cat 2 status, or the location of it at Higgs, has anything whatsoever to do with setting up a company such as Soccer Rockz?

Tim, to recap. The telegraph ran an article, mainly about how much in player sales it has generated for the club / or its owner's. I am of the opinion that purely mentioning the players sold / transfer fee's generated was doing the clubs youth set up a disservice. To back up this argument I provided a couple of points, lastly pointing out that players who had come through our youth set up, were now providing access to Football, in a safe environment, to the wider community. I am of the opinion that the council should be supporting participation in all sports rather than tagging itself the "City of Rugby"

I think Tim has left the building. I'm sure the powers that be will be giving a new briefing soon.

Tampon Tim - around for a week or so then disappears for the next 3.

Ah sorry for keeping you all waiting, I know you all hang on my every word.
It seems even the server had an outage this morning and blanked my post. Ha.Not going to re gurgle it all again now but for SkyblueScottie's sake:
I agree with a lot of what you said m8, importance of the academy etc.
Can't say I agree that the status of the academy has any material contribution to the development of new companies, or enhanced value to the wider local community.
The very nature of CCFC'S academy with its 'exclusive use' of the facility is elitist and denies access to everyone OTHER THAN players at the academy.
Half the population of the city is immediately therefore excluded (females) as are all those too young, too old or those considered not good enough.
There's nothing necessarily wrong with this, it would not be very different to academies attached to many other clubs. They too focus wholly on the elite.
The difference is....that the other clubs INVEST THEIR OWN MONEY in developing their own.
They do not expect third party leisure facility management companies, rugby teams, local authorities or charities to provide it for them.
Please remember, a not inconsiderable part of the funding for Higgs Centre was to underpin wider participation and community use.
Yes I know there is a community use pitch. But demand due to CCFCs exclusive access renders the facility too expensive for grassroots or community use. It's twice the price per hour of similar facilities in other parts of the Midlands and North.
So.... it has provided a platform for graduates to set up coaching companies to teach young kids in the wider community?
PLEASE. Do me a favour.

I haven't read this article yet.
So it may not be the case with this but it is very hard to take Les Reid seriously.
Which is a shame because 3-4 years ago he was an award winning journalist.
The observor is not tied to anyone.
People feel the CET is tied into the council and Wasps.
So this is his chance to be the journalist everyone is looking for.
Use the observor as his mouth piece and be the only journalist investigating both sides.
Don't leave a stone unturned.

I see what he is doing now as very very lazy. He effectively just does a press release with what the club tells him. Followed by a copy and paste spiel at the end of each article covering the history of the Saga from one perspective.

Les if you read this you have free reign the observor isn't in anybody's pocket.

Prove your worth as a journalist.

Everytime time one of these parties release a statement investigate it.

Be it we still have a plan B we have a site.
The FL, will they allow us to move away again if we have no site.
The FL, what flexibility will they allow in academy terms and conditions and where has precedents been set.
What do Wasps really want out of a long term deal with CCFC.
Why does legal noise affect talks regarding the Ricoh but not the academy.
Who really funds SISU
What do SISU see as their long term plan.
Is a new stadium realistic.
Why did the leaseholder say no to the Butts deal.
What is the club looking at getting out of a long term deal at the Ricoh.
Can an academy be set over various sites.

Questions such as these delve dig investigate. Do what you are suppose to do, not lazy journalism bourne out of a feeling of been shafted by the council.

Sorry rant over.

Interesting you comment before even reading it, and it was over a week ago?

Saw it pop up as one of the latest threads. So assumed it was a new article. Genuinely getting to the point of not bothering to reading his articles.
Should have read it before commenting though just in case.

I assume you agree with my point though. Asking him to investigate all actions and statements by all sides?

Every journalist should do that, I'd have thought it's their job.

This article was half decent, as said by people who dislike his stuff.

Maybe I should have had a read first then. Would be nice if he is finally looking in all directions and less of a PR statement

I stated that I hadn't read this article and gave my opinion about les reid's journalism based on the last 20 odd articles I have read written by him.
It wouldn't have based my opinion of his journalism based in this one article

Arent you slightly biased by what he has written in the past and therefore your judgement clouded somewhat?

If it's true that this article investigates both sides of things and has done a bit of digging into unfounded statements by SISU.
Then my opinion based on all his previous articles is definitely biased based on those articles.

If a man walks up to me and punches me in the face 20 times. As he approaches me on occasion number 21 I will expect to be punched in the face.
If that biased based on my previous experience
Then yes I am biased

Not too sure Ried is pro sisu, I think he looks for a balanced article to the eg. CT?

Being biased isnt going to help anyone, but fair play to your honesty.

You do not think Reid is pro SISU?

Please would you mind providing examples in the last 2 years where he has challenged anything SISU has said. Or investigated anything they have said or done and exposed it or questioned it.

Or are you saying in the last 2 years they have done nothing worth doing this for?

I don't think he is.

His general journalistic career seems to be a quest to hold the council to account however, not just in relation to the football club.

Whether that's a valuable service or a dog with a bone, I'll let you decide.

I think there is room to investigate SISU as well.
Plus you can investigate the council without doing press releases for SISU surely.
I am very surprised that anybody could suggest he is not turning a blind eye to SISU's activities and is not actively promoting them in this saga

Didn't he break the news about the Butts which annoyed people?
