Just wondering (as I look forward to the new season!), what posters actually play in a team, league or otherwise?
I'm now pushing 72 but played until I was 45, having played 11-a-side for a team called Jet Blades and then for a few years, crazy 5-a- side. I played in goals and if I say so myself, I was fairly decent. When I finally "retired" from playing, I refereed 5-a-side games for a year or so.
I don't claim to have great knowledge of who should play where, what formation etc. Being a goalie, I just got on with my job! If I had that great knowledge, I'd have gone into management!
So, come on. Who actually plays and what position?
Played for them in the mid 1970's. Had some good games back then. You must've been decent to play for Jet Blades.
I played for Woodlands on a saturday (also in the Cov Alliance, although i hovered between first and reserve teams), and a number of teams on a sunday, including The Cherry Tree, Bedworth Travellers Rest, Orchard FC (Bedworth)
Stopped playing regularly around 30, and moved first into Muay Thai, and then into competitive running in about 2015 (which i still do now)
They still exist these days, although form has dipped considerably.@Houchens Head I remember Jet Blades (Bedworth team), played against them a few times many years ago.... decent local standard tbh.
I'm only two years behind you so may have played against you all those years agoThey still exist these days, although form has dipped considerably.
You have my sympathy.Sunday league for me dads pub team between the ages of 16/18
5 aside from 18 to 36 3 times a week would love a game now but had a Weber fracture class 3 to my ankle , tore all me ligaments and broke my fibula and required a skin graft I’m 48 next birthday and wished I’d played on longer as
Enjoy me running though , but might give walking football a go at some point
See I think this will be up my street , but what’s the rules regarding tackling ?Play about 4 times a week, over 50's walking football and a bit of social footy too for Sky Blues in the Community, great craic, good for fitness and mental health!
I love it having turned 50 three years ago.
We occasionally play in 7-a-side tournaments too.

No tackling from the back or side, it's virtually a non-contact sport nowadays but as @JimmyHillsbeard said, 'you gotta unlearn a lot of stuff', which can be frustrating to begin with but you get used to it after a while.See I think this will be up my street , but what’s the rules regarding tackling ?
I’m 70 and still feel like 30 yr old now and again, ( but I think she’d kill me off) hahahaNice to see some "oldies" still playing! As I said in my original post, I gave up playing footie many years ago, but on top of playing into my mid 40's, I also completed the Three Peaks Challenge for charity, used to go pot holing and took a load of youths caving. Done some daft things when I was younger, but don't regret a single minute! Now pushing 72 and still feel like a 60 year old!
I'm 45, one hip done, the other on the way!I play bowls, either lead or 2, with both hips replaced it's the best I can do!!
Well done you! Us oldies can still show them young whipper snappers a thing or two!Up to my mid-thirties I preferred hill running, but repeated torn ankle ligaments put an end to that. Switched to indoor 5s with a great mix of older cunts like myself and younger lads from the local 11s teams looking to maintain fitness. Still (just) at it at 63, with the help of steroid injections in my knee and ibuprofen pre-match. It's the best fun you can have with your clothes on, so I'll keep going until I can't.
Passing the ball is undoubtedly the biggest problem many of them have!Well done you! Us oldies can still show them young whipper snappers a thing or two!

Christ, I have enough trouble just driving up the Pyrenees. Is this as in "Fell Running".....?
I'm heavily involved.... ran for Warwickshire in the inter-counties the last two years.
Going to Pyrenees in a couple of weeks to run in the World Masters Mountain Running (v40, uphill race)
And do a lot of domestic level races..... won the short race at the Welsh 1000's in June, which is my highest claim to fame (although running in the inter-counties was an insanely higher level!
