Whilst appreciating the 'it's a results business' eventually as a Club we must have both belief, commitment & faith in the Manager and back him, through the rough & the smooth through thick & through thin.

I missed just 1 game at Sixfields (through family commitments) and witnessed the best football I'd seen for 20yrs, then Leon threw his toys out of the pram & Callum got injured and was out for 4 months.

That mean't having to change the system & go more defensive to survive (bearing in mind a 10 point deduction), so instead of pushing for the play-offs the priority became survival and we more than did that.

Back to the Ricoh under false pretences (in hindsight wish we'd never have returned but that's another story for another 'Thread'), Gillingham great turn out but then Yeovil and all the 'fickle' so called fans, disappeared!

Just take a long hard look at our record over the last 14/15 years or so, only 1 manager walked the rest were dismissed. Do you think we will eventually give a Manager more than 2 years or 100 games??????????

Personally I have my doubts, good on JS & quite a few others for backing 'Elvis'!

One day he'll Manage in the Premiership, just wish him All the Best & Good Luck in the future, wherever it takes him.

Of course it is relevant, if he hasn't actually been to a game to watch how we have been playing under Pressley than how does he know? It isn't just the results you get on final score that need to be seen, it is the performances too.

If we had kept Presley we would have gone down. We have steadily got worse throughout the season, therefore why would we suddenly improve under him now?

We might well still go down (very likely), however changing the manager is unlikely to make things worse.

Pressley has been caught out numerous times by managers who were more tactically aware and quickly shuffle their pack to null us, he has no plan B and is unable to see the wood for the trees.
His downfall has been manufactured by his own stubbornness, lack of flexibility and a need for other people to be scapegoats ( the Bomb Squad ) added to appalling form.
To see professional footballers ( no matter what their skill level ) either looking at the bench to see how he is reacting or ignoring his "advice" during a game is a clear indication ( in my opinion ) of how he had lost the respect of some (not all ) of the players.
This beautiful club ( i`m not ashamed to say I love it ) is plumbing the depths that I never imagined I would witness, shitty owners, bad/unlucky managers, sub standard players it all adds up and we now are paying the price.
I still believe that in the group of players we have, there is a team that once properly organised and confidence is returned, that can win games and can certainly be further up the table.
People will always have differing opinions, that`s life, but I genuinely believe that the decision to replace Pressley will turn out to be the correct one.
If we can get the other monkey off our back then hopefully, one day, we will see great days again.

In a moment of madness I went to Sixfields and watched us lose 1-5 to Tranmere. One of the worst displays I have ever seen in almost 40 years.
What on earth has our record over the last 15 or so years got to do with keeping Steven Pressley ? Once the remnants of the Robins squad had left we were in a downwards spiral. The worse we became, the more Pressley adapted the same old post-match nonsense. If he does succeed in the Premiership, you can say it was a mistake to fire him, the rest of us will look at what he really achieved in the last 6 months and say good for him, but he never did it here.

Yes I accept that he has seen a large amount of goals taken out of the team, however, he has had a massive turnover of players by his own hand. God knows what would have happened if he had signed some of the loanee`s on permanent contracts, we would have at got stuck with more shit.
A different manager may have done things differently regarding transfers out of the club, who knows, its all guess work. He took the job on knowing that we are a selling club, and that isn`t likely to change for the next one through the door.
I still believe he didn`t help himself and I also believe he leaves here with a better skill set for where ever he lands next. I have said before it is a real shame it turned to shit for him as he is a passionate man and really wanted to succeed here but we could not gamble on him turning it around, we have to stay in this division this year and prey that someone saves us from the vampires before it is too late

You need to address one point. Last season with baker moussa Wilson at his disposal he reaped less points than the current squad in the last 21 games of that season.

The fact your only backer in this debate is the deranged RFC leaves you on very dodgy ground.

But the majority of the goals came from Clarke and Wilson. Clarke went in January and Wilson was out for around a couple of months wasn't he. When they were both in the team before Xmas and we were wiping out the -10 and Pressley won manager of the month, people couldn't get enough of SPs man love.

Don't agree with John Sillett's assessment of Steven Pressley, however your comment is wide of the mark. Sillett's teams were consistently in the top half of the old First Division table. They also played attractive, attacking football. For me, after Jimmy Hill and Gordon Milne, our best manager.

RFC...I disagree with some (a lot) of what you say, but I'm pretty much with you on this one. I was one that was calling for SP to go in the end but I don't disagree with much of what you've said here. When we started last season on -10 points and then wiped them out quickly with Clarke and Wilson scoring for fun, SP was getting the Manager of the Month award (if I recall correctly) and Mark Robins and his 'Sky Blue Blood' was a distant memory.

There would've been very few who would've criticised SP at that time. Then came the Xmas period, Clarke was off and Wilson bust his shoulder. That's when the wheels started to come off.

SPs transfer record was poor, no doubting that. But how much money of those who left (whether that be fees for Wilson etc or wages from Baker, Moussa etc) did SP actually get. The players brought in were not of the same calibre and that's why we find ourselves where we are.

I do hope SP has a successful career in management. He's a passionate guy and am sure with the right management team above him, he'll do alright. I also agree with your point about consistency...I'm also one for not chopping and changing the manager. That said, despite my above thoughts on SP, I thought a change might herald enough points short term to keep us safe. Maybe a little contradictory but hey ho.

I do remember the times fondly from HR. However, the past 10 years has put a tinge of sadness on those memories as despite the big name signings (by comparison), it was the over-zealous spending from those days that started the downward spiral.

I often wonder if we'd of got relegated in the late 80's and not spent so big in the 90's, whether we'd be in such a mess now.
