I think this was the first time anything like this was done on TV... certainly in this fashion. No one had a frame of reference to see through it.

Missed the opening credits (it was billed as Screen One or something like that which was a BBC drama strand at the time which should have given the game away) so the initial15 minutes or so was convincing, set up like a regular OB, I initially thought it was a credible experiment at some house that was supposed to be haunted. But the first "incident" along with the acting was OTT and from then on it was how daft can they make it. A bit like Most Haunted but with a proper budget.

Derek Acorah was caught out by one of the Producers I believe:
During a shoot at Bodmin Goal, he invented a dead South African jailer called Kreed Kafer – an anagram of Derek Faker.
At the next shoot, in Cornwall, O'Keeffe made up another fictional character Rik Eedles – an anagram of Derek Lies.

Ah fair enough , the only thing that creeped me a bit was the Stephanie Cole speaking direct to camera bit
Had a look on Twitter last night and was surprised by the amount of people who fell for the sound and technicals problems bit

Must confess, I did too. Not at first. Totally bought the 'all part of the show' thing, but then when it actually started to play that old episode I was starting to doubt myself.
The announcer never quite came across as genuine though did she.
As for my missus, she is the worst 'what's he doing that for/who's she?/why is the wall picture tilted on an angle/ who's he's again?' viewer in the entire world!!!!!
Luckily, she walked out after 13 mins muttering how she didn't understand any of it and thought it was a pile of crap.
