Yeah. I'm sure if we'd added to the numbers with Armstrong and Murphy we'd be well and truly fucked.

True - we had Hunt, Cole, Henderson, ramage
We had Cole , vincelot , fleck , fortune , ricketts , hunt , Henderson , ramage , Martin

Not sure the point you're making , we finished 8th and looked likely for most of the season to hit the playoffs.
This season we look likely to go down with less experience in the squad and playing more youngsters than anybody in the FL

That age doesn't say a lot at all. The younger players this season such as Sterry page and Stevenson are better than some seasoned professionals like Reid, Ghadzev and Tudgay

Sterry is a good lad
Page is average
Stevenson is a good lad

But at this level we need more experience in the squad , it could be argued we needed more experience in certain areas last year , but the point of the post is to highlight just how much more we are playing youngsters than the rest of the football league , and that's a worry especially when you are at the wrong end of the table .

I normally agree with you, but you can't say for a minute the age of the squad doesn't reflect our poor league position.

Look at Kelly-Evans for example. Shouldn't be in a League 1 starting 11 yet, neither should Harries really (he was awful against Cambridge from League 2). Jones is heavily overrated too.

So whilst you're right in saying some of our younger players are better than our older players (Reid is generally not great, Stevenson is generally good for example), the amount of kids we're having to play shows how poor and weak our squad is. That inexperience and underdevelopment on the field has cost us points on many occasions this season already.

Do you want to know something funny? I saw this on Twitter last night and someone was saying it's something to be really proud of progressing local talent through the academy. I'd party agree with that and then say that we are making use of the loan system (more successfully last year) and the young players are better than the old dross like tudgay MAF Gadzhev Cole etc.

But some people will turn anything into a whinge wont they

If homegrown is from Newcastle and West Ham fair enough

The thing is I don't see the defence (which is very young) that much of a problem.

The other areas are.

The midfield clearly has missed Vincelot and fleck. We signed an experienced replacement in Ghadzev whose failed. Im constantly berated as knowing nothing about football regarding Bigi and that he is far better than fleck. So we have one player in midfield that is far superior to last season (those mom awards prove this apparantly)

We have a 28 year old winger a 34 year old forward and a 25 year old forward two of which I'd swap for the far younger alternatives we had last season.

except last season we had an older squad lol, silly response tbh

And again I would say this is down to Mowbray and Venus. THey had four months to sort the squad out but they failed and then panicked.

I like the idea of using de yoot but when we're languishing at the bottom after an unproductive summer and all the other shit in the background it seems less a youth movement and more necessity. Still, Stevenson's one goal away from having the entire Goal of the Season shortlist all to himself Bergkamp-style so it's not all bad.

The Bigi situation is weird. The fact we signed him was probably desperate. Even though he has improved, to say he was one of the worst last season, and is now one of the best this season, truly shows how weak our squad now is, regardless of any improvement he has made personally I'd say.

Gadzhev's been a real disappointment. An international who we were lead to believe would be all Fleck wasn't and more, and I've barely seen a thing.

I agree, have we won a game when he has started?

I have been saying our club structure and model has been based on Crewe for a long time now, i think the list sort of validates the reasoning i had. The thing's that stand out for me is is the difference between us and 2nd its not even close in numbers and the level of clubs on the list as well, we are far the biggest club on that list. This should really tell us all how the owners see this club, run this club and where they see the only department they can make money from.

TM said it sooner or later the owners have to commit to investing in football players in getting them and keeping them.

Yeah he's been a strange one, you just never notice he's playing (when he rarely does). Maddison was being interviewed a couple of weeks ago talking about us and he singled him out saying "They have got some really talented players, the likes of Vlad Gadzhev who I think is a top player." (I did just find the article so it was an accurate quote. No, you're welcome)

Is Laura Hunter the communication person for Ccfc?

Age should not be a problem if the youngsters are talented and developed enough to cope mentally and physically....... so far this season ours, together with some poor more senior players, are proving they are not

Yeah the defence has only truly faltered over the last five games or so.
Stokes should be coming close now.

Sad to see that we're slowly morphing into Crewe Alexandra, a team that brings through a lot of youngsters and hovers between League One and League Two with any "success" depending on if they've sold the hottest new thing of the month out of their academy or not (see James Maddison & Nick Powell etc)

What is this a symptom of?
It seems all reactive and open to change on a whim.
A few weeks back I suggested we may
have to stick with what we've got, with possibly a couple of fresh replacement loans and ride that out.
Trouble for the club is that risks relegation and guys like me may hop off the bus, no loss particularly.
It may enable the club to operate well within budget and fully utilise to maximum what is a large proportion of turnover going into to the Academy.
Trouble is we panic , natural enough I guess, because it is quite a laudable aim to produce a side virtually entirely made up from Cov product.
What we do Is chop and change from manager to manager we had Pressley who wanted it seems to implement this model to the full but he got yanked and Mowbray last season was the polar opposite.
Myself I think the younger of our audience are more prepared for this concept where the level were at is not as critical over firm sustainability with maybe the promise in the future.
It's the approaching seniles like myself who are prone to anxiety over quality and level that are a problem, but like Brexit were not going to be around for ever, that also drives the need to see us back atop and Impatience, conundrum!!
It doesn't please me to try and make these observations just trying to express some honesty.
It was a pleasure to watch the team that knitted together for a while back in 80-81,not all roses and particularly long lived but a little special and at the top.

Age is not relevant when you are talking about individuals being developed into a first team pro. But this isn't a few individuals this is about the squad full of kids in a man's league. The saying if you are good enough then your old enough is the biggest load of bollocks going. It's a coaches throw away comment that gets repeated when they are asked about individuals.
