We have never been a 'BIG' team regardless of attendances 50 years ago or the one off large attendances over the last few years. A big team wins things over its history, what have we won apart from the FA Cup (what a day that was) I would put us down as average team from a average city. With a true regular support of around 15,000 fans, yes if we do well then that boosts to 25,000 on average but the year after we won the cup the attendance for the first game was 18,625 no many for the FA Cup winners

We are one of the biggest names in world football...always have been and always will be.

The likes of Man City and Chelse are trying to take our share of global emerging markets in Asia.

Depends the age of the person your asking, anybody below 30, no we're not. You ask a 20 year old that's supported Chelsea for 5 minutes and I'm sure you'll be answered with "who ?" However ask any 40/50 year old and they'll see us as a fallen giant. We Wernet in the top flight for 30+ years for no reason

Take a look around League 1, that is our current level and standing. Any past glories or future predictions are a side show. Last time I saw us play we were trying to hang onto that league 1 status.....but a new season beckons.

Very true. We're only as good as where we are...and we're lucky to still be in L1.

True, we play in a brilliant stadium but that counts for very little at the moment.

I think the world sees us as a 3rd Div side that overachieved for 30 years, and many of them close to relegation. Our current position tends to support that view.

We are not a fallen giant because a giant we never were

Not sure about 'giant' but agree with everything else you said.

Your right, "Giant" probably wasn't what I was going for, "Fallen Premier League Stalwart" is probably a better fit. If I'm ever in a pub and say to someone a few years older than me I'm a Coventry fan, Im always met with a "Crikey what's happened with Coventry, I remember when they....." Then get some awesome story from an away day in the 70s and 80s.

We're not a minnow by any means, were still a household name, but similarly we haven't got the record for being the only English league club that hasn't finished in the Top 6 of any division for over 40 years either.

I think most fans are realistic when it comes to the size of the club, I just feel sorry for the younger fans growing up in Coventry now that didn't get to go to Anfield away and see a 2-0 win one week followed by a trip to Old Trafford the week after. Luckily I grew up supporting Cov at just the right time, I had a season ticket from the 92/93 season so saw a good few seasons of us holding our own in the top division of the best league in the world,

Any Cov fan today's biggest hope would be to see us getting thrashed at one of the big boys in the club aka Spurs, Arsenal etc. the last few seasons.

Funnily enough it's the little things I miss about not being a "big" club anymore, not being on Match Of The Day, not having our transfer activity in the sports sections of the national papers, not pulling a massive win against one of the top 4 out of the bag and the lads at the boozer all talking about it,

Sad times to see us where we are, but you can only get so low before you turn a corner, and I honestly believe we're just starting to turn it

Football is a funny game. 15 years ago Stoke City would be considered a club a lot smaller than us, but now things are different. They are finishing in the top ten of English football and have sold out every home match since their promotion.

Although over history they are no bigger than us, Leicester or Birmingham, they are currently by far the best team in the Midlands and that doesn't look like it will change for a while.

I have to agree with Tony. Doesn't matter where others rank us CCFC are the team I support and look for above all others

You could rely on us being in the top division for 34 years to "prove" we are a big club but then again how many years in total have we been outside of that top division? Do we want to be seen as a footballing giant right now? I would argue probably not because that makes other teams see us as something we are not in reality - they then raise their game because they are playing a "big team" and that makes things that little harder for us

We are what we are, a cash strapped homeless L1 team, that has consistently been performing poorly on and off the pitch, with no real assets to call their own, massive debt, limited budget, with many wounds to heal particularly with the fans. That doesn't seem to me to indicate us being any real force in the Football League and certainly doesn't to me indicate us being a big club even if you build in the hoped for and elusive "potential"

But CCFC are my team that's all that matters to me

We are what we are....so true BUT we are my team, the sky blues, Coventry City. So whatever we are, wherever we play and indeed whatever we become, I will still be a proud supporter.
I do feel sorry for the young supporters who are bombarded on TV by premier league hype and at school by the Glory Hunters who have never been to a match. At least my generation can look back, I'm sure with rose tinted specs at times, to great days, superb players and CCFC being in the media for innovation and some quality football rather than empty stadia, footballing dross and owners who don't 'get' what a football team means to a local community

Those that are too young to have seen us as a top flight club and are pissed off with being reminded that we are the club that have not finished in the top 6 for nearly 50 years?

Couldnt really care if we are classed as a big/small/medium club. Just fecking get us up the league!!
