But it was proved 2 years ago that the support from the fans dragged the players over the line.
It's a poor excuse for me. It's a library up there.
So was the match.Watched on the tv and the atmosphere was very flat.
I'm not sure why you're on about it, you'd fucked off for most of our time in league 2That’s it. Let’s destroy one of the few positives of this season.
Much better that we go back to a hardcore of 10k, where we can be a league 1 club forever more watching utter shite, but we can all congratulate ourselves on being super fans
Probably the worst? Have a word, that isn't even close to being true and you know that.
If was very flat tonight, but in those few moments where there was some intensity and aggression it immediately lifted. That's the big contrast with the Luton game where the crowd stayed with them because they fed off the energy and that worked both ways. There was no spark tonight, we had one attempt on goal all first half. There was nothing to feed off, zero.
Fans have spent shit loads of money turning up and watching bang average football players, performing shit and collecting 10 grand for their effort. We may be playing poor, especially at home but my word our atmosphere has completely died.
To go from the noise and vocal support from a year or two to that tonight is demoralising.
Even after we scored, there was nothing. No drive to push the players. The Derby fans got bored of taking the piss after a while.
We've gained up to 10,000 fans in 18 months and the noise levels and fallen off a cliff.
We've gained 10,000 day trippers.
Leicester was good for obvious reasons but the other two were no better than the peak of that post-covid season. I still maintain we'll never ever get that back. It was some strange europhia of being freed from lockdowns, a sense of being up against it in the big leagues.Day trippers with season tickets?
This idea that it's better with fewer there is nuts, the best 3 atmospheres last season were Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester and Leeds, the 3 biggest crowds of the season.
I noticed the home at atmosphere at Boro on Saturday was much more subdued than recent visits, very flat. Clubs lose momentum on and off the pitch at times. Nothing to stress about, it'll ebb and flow. Much bigger issues right now.
It’s a chicken and egg argument. You can argue that our job as fans is to try and lift the players, no matter how well they’re playing.Atmosphere is powered by the energy of the players.
No energy on the pitch, no atmosphere in the stands

We need some new songs. Drummer spends half the time he can be arsed trying to start either SBA, Since I was young and We love you. The latter two are utterly shite and tinpot and the former we sing far too much (effective when a lot are singing it but annoying when about 4 or 5 are constantly trying to get it going for 15 mins straight). Need some original, interesting songs we can sing. The songs for the players too, don’t get me started. Since gyok and hamer left every single one we’ve made has been shite. For instance the Bobby thomas crap one is just one of a number. Atmosphere was far better a couple of seasons ago but it would be helped now by a greater variety of decent songs to sing

Vik, Hamer, McFadz, O'Hare, Palmer - they all had songs you could get behind and bellow out. Now we sing about the biggest dick in the championship. We need a new creative director.
I'm not advocating going back to 10,000 as being some kind of dream team level support.Day trippers with season tickets?

Somebody questioned the poor levels of vocal support and I've suggested that maybe those newcomers/returnees aren't ready yet to fill a breach
As for ST holders not being day trippers - You do know why our attendances for the 1987/88 season were reasonably high compared with the previous 10 and then steadily declined?
Atmosphere is powered by the energy of the players.
No energy on the pitch, no atmosphere in the stands
I didn't take your reply as having a pop.I wasn't having pop really, but I've heard it said before that the atmosphere dips when there is a large crowd, which isn't really true.
Besides, pretty much exactly the same people who were there tonight were there against Luton, and it was chalk and cheese. Tonight was very much an example of a game and how it unfolded impacting negatively on the mood, just a complete lack of energy on the pitch.
Of course numbers have been boosted and will likely dip over coming years if we don't kick on, but these aren't new fans from nowhere for the large part, they are just casuals turned st holders, it's the same people by and large who were there against Blues 2 seasons ago when there was 30K in the place and it was bouncing.
But really good support, they give it anyway, regardless of what's going on on the pitch.
And we did that for a while. But normal service now resumed.
Safe standing and proximity to away fans has worked a treat! But it was proved 2 years ago that the support from the fans dragged the players over the line.

bang on but people think we're special for some reasonWe seem to think we’re unique as a group of fans, and I’m not sure if it’s arrogance or self loathing.
As a fanbase we’re identical to 90% of all other clubs.
We had a great atmosphere a few years ago because we went from being the most depressing club in the land to support, to being a club that suddenly had everything going right.
We’re now putting in lacklustre performances, and the fans are justifiably annoyed by this.
Pretty much every other fan base would react the same way
True. Home games never feel ‘big’ anymore like they did when there was 4.5k away fans right next to the corner. Shame as of course in other ways it’s far more beneficial to have as many home fans in as possibleSafe standing and proximity to away fans has worked a treat!
Might also depend on the pricing of season tickets next season. The only way it's destroyed is if they walk away from the club after a season.
It will be interesting to see the season ticket sales if we finish around 18th.
Safe standing and proximity to away fans has worked a treat!
Least there wasn't the Doug king song
Its the inane passing the ball around at the back thats pissing me off, we don't have players trying to make the transition with the ball, give it to Eccles and back it usually goes again, but at least the lad in the final 10 minutes or so was looking forward last night...so why didn't he do that all match? At throw ins most of our players run away from the thrower giving barely any options...this 'new' lot of 'trainers' or whatever we want to call the shite are doing us no favours at all because the tactics are run about and try to make yourself look busy but don't go anywhere you may be able to help the player on the ball and also pass to the opposition as many times as you can ...fucking garbage...( I am still fuming over that shite last night)People are spending a fortune and turning up to watch that shite week in week out, no wonder the atmosphere has gone. The atmosphere for the first 10 minutes was pretty good, gifted them a goal, then proceeded to pass the ball around the defence for the next half hour, we have no urgency, this is the most spineless team I've ever seen.
That's happens everywhere, during the last season or so of Wenger at Arsenal it was obvious the ground was no where near full just the official attendance was still given as 60000.Pretty obvious from last night a LOT of ST holders didn’t show up. Was surprised how big the attendance was announced at.
