Back Three (1 Viewer)

How do we see us lining up here going forward? Fadz has arguably been our best player this season and is worth retaining despite his age, but you would think the three that played yesterday will be the starting back three in the future barring any new signings.

The question is what roles do each play and do they actually need replacing?

Hopefully we have an option to sign JCS over the summer and he is naturally on the left being left footed.

Then in order to replace Fadz we have to cover three main things IMO: leadership, aggression, distribution.

Hyam is the obvious candidate in terms of leadership whilst Rose has far better distribution, and in terms of aggression they maybe match each other?

I'd have thought with Rose and JCS's pace they would give a better balance flanking Hyam as the leader, but based on yesterday's selection Robins sees distribution as the most important part of that role...

Any thoughts?

I love how much I care about football again 😍🐘

Difficult one. I like all 4 and yesterday's was nice and balanced but in the Championship you do need a Fadz type leader / warrior who'll stick his head in and get involved. We're far too nice in the rest of the team apart from Gus and we don't get in the refs face like everyone else appears to.

It's amazing how different Fadz has been this season compared to last - at one stage last time around it felt like an own goal, a sending off, or tripping over his own feet was something that happened every third game, but this season he's been a goliath in almost every game. From MR's comments in pre-season I imagined his legs were going / gone (iirc it was something about him struggling to reach the levels) but he's been immense.

JCS if we can get him signed it would be immense signing wise but would use a lot of budget so think we might use remaining budget for AM.if that happens I will be happy only bidwell coming in during the winter window.
As for Fadz we need to keep him no matter what as a brilliant professional.

I liked what we saw yesterday. As budget is tight I’d be happy going into next season with that back three, Fadz on a one year deal, and a younger player in reserve we can bring through. Someone out of the Prem U23s or a L1 player.

JCS definitely a priority in the summer.

We have an AM in Eccles going to be a main man, whatever transfer budget we have i would go for another striker then a CB, as for JCS imo he’s essential will be tough to find another as good within our budget.

Rose was immense yesterday he also has superb passing give him a run he will be flying didn’t robins once say he was the best defender at the club ?

Having a good game is fine , doesn't automatically push him into the starting 11

Bearing on mind fadz had been immense in 70% of his matches this season , I'm not sure dropping him is the right way to go.

Rose deserves to keep the shirt imo. Fadz has been excellent this season and is a leader but the extra pace that Rose brings makes a huge difference. I think Fadz hasn't been at the same standard since returning from COVID.

Rose's distribution was top class from that role yesterday but the goal we conceded was crying out for someone like Fadz to be decisive and aggressive

Wonder if Bidwell could play on that left hand side regularly in future?
They interviewed him on CWR and he was saying he's played there a few times for previous teams.
Not got much height but he's stocky

I really like Sheaf and his game has come on leaps and bounds, but he’s not comfortable at centre back.

Not a chance, why waste a good midfielder trying to convert him to a centre back. He hasn't impressed playing there.

Agreed, he’ll do for now, but he isn’t confident in that role and isn’t particularly strong enough either.

He’s much better in midfield, without a doubt.
