Generally a lot less than you would think. Don't know specifically for the Ricoh but I know of similar capacity venues that you can hire for less than £50K a day.

Of course if you have someone like Oasis on you sell a ton of booze and make money that way. Not so much with this kind of thing as the majority of the crowd will be under age, that's why there's a lot less competition to stage events like this.

Not just booze though is it Dave. I've only been to one concert at the Ricoh and that was the RHCP's not long after it first opened. No food or drink of any description was allowed through the turnstiles and the prices inside IIRC was considerably higher than on match days. A small bottle of water was something silly like £3 IIRC and it was a roasting hot day to. I seem to remember spending over £30 just on water that day.

True but alcohol, in particular pints, have by far the biggest margin. Rule of thumb in my place if we sold £3K of beer a night that was £1K profit, £3K of soft drinks, food etc would be profit in the low hundreds at most.

If they're doing that they are breaking the law. They have to provide drinking water FOC.

I went to that one and it was like a typical festival regarding the food & drink.
500ml unopened plastic bottles of non-alcoholic drink were okay.
And my sister took in a rake of sandwiches and a whole cooked chicken!

Well. They had bins by the turnstiles when we went in and we had to either drink and eat everything that was in our rucksacks or chuck it in the bin. That's my memory of it anyway.

I now await the it raises the profile of the City and the Ricoh argument. It makes business sense. It's not all about money etc. Blah blah blah

Italia has already said that it puts Cov back on the radar on the other thread. I'd have thought Europe's richest rugby club arriving would have already done that?

Were you on the pitch? We were seated so I wonder if that had something to do with it!

My overwhelming memory is that fucking awful cover of "how deep is your love" which went on for about 2 day's I think...

Had a seat to. About block 20 IIRC. Maybe we went through the little hitler turnstile. Yes the cover was pretty shit, I don't think John even finished it it just seemed like days. I thought that the support group they brought over from America was gash too. Can't beat the chilli peppers though.

You thought wrong. Wasps 'hope' to be the richest club in Europe.

Coventry needs to promote it's assets to lots of people. MTV gets to the younger ones and probably their parents.
By the summer the club should be back on the radar when we get back into the Championship.

CCFC in the Championship, Wasps and now more varied concerts will certainly help to up Coventry's profile.
Businesses in and around the area can feel the future is now secure and start to invest in their infrastructure.

There is no doubt about it, the Ricoh is becoming a jewel in the Coventry crown.
Exactly how CCFC and CCC initially planned it.
The downside of course is that both wanted CCFC to own it and that has not happened ..................... yet !!

I want them on the UK radar as well as the Coventry radar.

They are on the uk radar, and have been most of the season. We're more on the uk radar than than a lot of championship clubs.

[h=1]Wasps to become richest rugby club in the world, says chief[/h]

Wasps say they are on course to become the richest rugby club in the world after announcing their latest financial initiative. On Monday they will become the first sports club to launch a retail bond listed on the London Stock Exchange, which is expected to raise up to £35m.
Wasps are also set to pass French giants Toulouse in terms of revenue.
"We expect to be in that position either at end of this season or next season," said Wasps' David Armstrong.

Unless they aren't doing as well as expected after the bonds?

MTV has an average audience share of 0.1% Their ratings are in freefall as their target demographic happily goes to the likes of YouTube to watch whatever music video they want when they want.

We've been in the papers and sky sports news a lot with recruiting Mowbray, signing Cole, the press talk about Armstrong a lot, talksport have talked about us a lot, moaning about the loan players, we've been on sky a number of times, the football league show have been bigging us up, we're regularly got a feature piece in the Suns Saturday football supplement.

You're right, we're never talked about.

How much coverage do the likes of championship Rotherham, MK Dons, Sheffield Wednesday, huddlesfield, Charlton, Preston, etc, etc get? Nowhere near as much as we have had this season, that's for sure.

If you think we haven't been on the uk media radar this season then you must have had your head too far up wasps arse to see.

30 Secs a week TV and reporting transfer news along with other teams is not enough for me.
Add 5 seconds on a Monday night after Burton Albion headlining is not enough.
We are D1 'also runs' at the moment so don't get ahead of yourself.

I'm old enough to remember being on the PL radar so I know we get very little coverage and certainly not enough to increase our corporate and advertising significantly.

With respect though even when we were the top team in the Midlands, ITV and BBC, would still give most the news to Villa, or now Leicester, so PL or not, we would still be down the pecking order whatever.

I believe its success that breeds publicity, which is highlighted at present, as we seem to get far more airtime than say the Blues who are in a higher league.

Typical Italia, always moving the goal posts. First it was getting into the championship is needed to get us in the radar....

By the summer the club should be back on the radar when we get back into the Championship.

Now i've shown that we've had more media attention than most championship clubs the goal posts have moved to the PL.....

I'm well aware of where we are and what our club is likely to stay under the current arrangements, i am not getting ahead of myself. You're the one with your head buried in the sand thinking no ones talked about us. Away from BT Sports land I wouldn't bet against us having more mentions in the media than your beloved wasps.

Don't be silly, we're not even talked about outside Coventry, it will all change when we're struggling in the championship though......

Doing my best not to get involved in the whole radar argument because to be honest it's a load of nonsense whichever side you're shouting from. What I will do though is give a brief opinion on it and say no more.

IMO we're not being talked about anymore or any less than any other season since we've been in league one and that is mainly a consequence of being in league one. However for the first time since being in league one we are being talked about for the right reasons i.e. what's happening on the pitch not of it. All hail TM. The end.

The whole radar argument was some bullshit that only italia has ever peddled to back up his franchise excuses.

Even if we are off the radar, we are still mentioned more than the franchise; I wonder how far they have to climb before they even get to out position as 'off the radar'?

I'd say we were getting a bit more than usual, look at the guy on Talksport for example who likes to moan about us for loan, Joe Cole signing had a fair few press there that haven't been at other games.

It is just more bullshit that is thrown out, then when proved wrong moving the goalposts to something else.

What does being on the radar even mean? If you're talking in terms of sponsorship or advertising then, in common with most football clubs, you're looking at local companies past a handful of national deals. I can't imagine we're off the radar to any of them.

So what else are you looking at, press coverage? As has been pointed out we're getting regularly mention and featured on a national level. L1 games on Sky Sports attract much higher viewing figures than Premiership Rugby on BT, same for the highlights program.

I would bet my house that if you showed 100 people around the country a picture of us playing at the Ricoh and another 100 a picture of Wasps playing at the Ricoh far more would recognise Coventry City and know where we play than would Wasps and where they play.

Shock horror, incorrect statement made and when pointed out changing it!

Come on lads get your act together !!

Saying we will be back on the radar in the Championship and remembering how it was in the PL are 2 different things.

What makes me laugh is that one incorrectly interprets a post and the six step in like a team of school bullies.

How ever you put it we will not be on the radar until we get back in the Championship because all people, media etc are really interested in is the PL and anybody who might be coming into it.

OR you just keep chatting shit and back track and move the goalposts when it gets pointed out (by more and more people it seems).

This is the pattern.

Make a Statement
Somebody proves statement wrong
Change statement to be very broad and different to the first one and try to blag people misread.

Who cares who is in the spotlight more, we will always be a bigger club than some rugby twats who pitch up and steal another team's stadium, most people really don't care about rugby. When they go bust a handful of Coventry people will give a shit, their alienated London fans will shrug, they will get hardly any national media coverage and we can buy our stadium from whatever administrator/liquidator closes the parasites down.
