Baker exit -football reasons or wages? (5 Viewers)

Personally I think it was both but started with the need to reduce the club's wage bill.

At the time the decisions were being made we were still at Sixfields with the budgets that set plus we had not actually sold Wilson. There was a need to drive down costs. Baker was probably the highest earner left.

SP has a preference/need for Baker's type of player and brought in JOB as a replacement at less cost to fill that need. Once that was done Baker had to go, and had to be "encouraged" that his future lay elsewhere.

As it turned out it hasn't been a bad move for Baker who seems to be making a name for himself with the MK Dons fans

He'd have every right to demand his contract paid in full when he left so the wages argument doesn't really sit with me. Pressley stopped picking him towards the end of last season don't forget.

If Pressley decides he doesn't fancy somebody they go, Barton being the one exception it would appear. He switched systems bare in mind at the start of the season and if you're not playing wingers you can't play Baker. I would suggest Pressley probably thought we'd seen the best years of him of got rid, a mistake in hindsight.

I think you'll find some sort of agreement is made with the signing club, but CCFC will end up paying any shortfall, but only a percentage of the full salary he was on here.

Yea I often wonder how these contract terminations work out, we've done it a few times where the player has signed up for another club the next day so I'm guessing there is no pay off in those situations. I thought it would be something like we continue to pay Baker X amount of money per week (Less than his wage, whatevers agreed on) until he gets a new club.

defo wages but (and whether it is true or not) he certainly sounded gutted that he was sidelined. I think he is proving what he has to offer at MK dons but he did something similar with us in patches so lets see if he can keep it up. Personally gutted to see him go.

Chap I work with goes to MK, he's taken great delight telling me how well Baker has been playing. Text me at the end of the game yesterday saying he'd had a blinder and setup two goals.

Always seemed like an inexplicable decision to me. Look at the goals the guy got!

I assumed Pressley fell out with him, as he seems to be doing with a lot of players.

I like Pressley, I really do and hope he turns it around. I wasn't too fussed with Murphy, Moussa, Clarke or even Wilson. But I think letting Baker go was a mistake. And I disagree, I thought on his day he was a great player. Look at the goals he's scored already at MK and the assists during their game yesterday.

Big mistake letting Baker go.
TF said it was because his legs had gone and failed a medical at Barnsley, but obvious this was a cover up to the truth of him either being on to much money or a fall out with someone.
He could have been the saviour of SP.

always liked baker, could change games ,always thought his popularity, on and of the pitch, was to much for sp and sisu. with all the lies and bullshit we have been fed , it was not the best to have such an honest and open person ,on and of the pitch

When he was on CWR the other week he said there was no falling out with SP IIRC. I think SP was given a straight choice. Keep Baker and his wages or let him go and bring in a number of players until you have reached the combined wages equivilent to what Baker is on.

Again people miss the point. Pressley would not play a formation Baker could play in.

It was clearly his decision to let him go. He wants midfielders to play tight. He doesn't want wide players in his team.

In bakers statement when released, didn't he say he'd stay and fight for his place but virtually told there was no point? Stupid decision to release him best player at the club so obviously money.

People forget half the games last season where baker played very very poorly.

tbh I wasn't too fussed when he left but I'd have him back here now, I can see why Pressley did it as he thinks O'Brien is better but he got it wrong.

I don't think Baker was ever very, very poor last season.

The difference between him and our current players is that even if he played poorly, he would more than likely be involved in something positive. He provided more chances than anyone in our team currently.

Yeah ,post Christmas for sure ,just like the rest of the squad as soon as Pressley gave them the free pass ,saying play offs were off.

As for Baker plenty good enough for this division as proved over the last two seasons ,excellent goals scored and some beautiful assists

for Callum especially and Clarke too, a few of them in Beckham territory IMO. Now there's hyperbole ,was trying not to go there as going

out on a limb can backfire ,but my eyes didn't lie to me over the last two seasons.
