Ball boys/girls (2 Viewers)

Ours are shocking
Go to other grounds and their ball people are great at getting the ball back in play , they're quick and accurate
Ours just sit there no where near the cones they put the balls on
Absolutely hopeless

Don’t know how feasible it would be but I thought being a ball boy would be ideal for the academy sides. Maybe u15’s.

Would help them learn when to speed up / slow down a game and they’d certainly be capable.

What better way to learn from the first team than to watch them that close.
Excellent idea

Are they just random kids? At one point they def were kids from the academy because I remember them announcing the change and saying it was about having the kids in and around the match day environment.

I believe they are kids who play for cov's development centre, Sky Blues in the Community.

I assume they have been told to sit and not get too involved. And the balls are on the cones to the players to get them, so the ball boys/girls are there to fill the gaps in-between the cones.

Yeah they are the kids from SBITC. Some of them will be close to academy level but some are just whose parents are willing to pay the £57 a month for the privilege.

You assume correctly.
And put the balls back on the cones when one has been taken.
They’re doing what they’re told.

They’ve always been lacklustre, my mate was a ball boy in the mid 90’s and chucked the ball to John Salako way too high (and like a girl), and made him strain his back.

I’m quite sure he had to be substituted about 5-10 minutes later. 🤣

go to other grounds and they are running to retrieve - used to be a old boy in a blue blazer who walked around and gave them a bollocking to keep them awake

Jesus Christ - so we’re criticising 14 year old kids now who aren’t running to retrieve a ball when they don’t need to cos the players have to use one of 15 from a cone round the side of the pitch.
I guess seeing as we won on Saturday we’ve got to have something to moan about.

This is a very good thread and needed to be spoken about. How it’s addressed is beyond me but something needs to be done.

What a pleb
When we were losing and the players were looking around for a ball don't you think it would've been more beneficial for our ball boys to recycle quickly like they do around the country?

Quite clearly we are missing a trick. It is very frustrating.

In a game of such fine margins why isnt there any training given to the ball boys. We are we as a club so naive at every single small detail its beyond belief.

I remember at Morecambe/accrington away once they were in the lead it felt like the ball boys dissapeared! Not one single away game at league 1 or league 2 level do u get the ball back. Unless the hone team is losing!

Then why on Saturday when they were winning, did their keeper wait to retrieve the ball from the crowd when a shot went wide?
At no time did he get the ball from a tee, and the referee did not instruct him to do so.

Didn't realise there were rules governing this
Looks like ours are obeying but as said above, referees need to ensure all players are retrieving balls from the cones

Still bloody frustrating when losing and you want to get on with it though

I remember the other week when we were losing, they just sat there and let the players come to get the ball when it was in front of them.

So are we saying that's what should happen and other clubs are breaking rules by having the ball boys speed it up / slow it down?

We haven't really used that like we should since we had the one who looked about 24 and was great at knowing when to rush to get the ball and when to shithouse.
