Why is it that games against teams in the bottom half of the table always cause us problems? Is it complacency? It seems we never truly turn up for games like yesterday. Yet give us a quality opposition and something to fight for and it's a different story, even if we lose the game. I was anxious driving up yesterday and sure enough my fears were fulfilled. This is where we have to make sure we win games...this will be the difference between promotion and another year in Div Two. I'm sure MR is aware of this, and let's hope yesterday was that reality check. One sloppy moment yesterday lost us the game...otherwise we might have held on and gained a point against a team better prepared than us on the day, which is what winning teams do....

A bit of complacency yesterday I think. But also sometimes poor or average sides sometimes find it hard to dictate games and therefore mirror the level of the opposition. Good teams often allow you to play until the edge of the penalty area. Against poorer sides it is often just a scuffle all over the pitch.

I hate to say it but I think Robins also touched on it in his post match interview but it's about attitude and having a touch of the billy big bollox about us.

You see it with England all the time. They turn up at tournaments with their premier league wages thinking all they have to do is turn up because they have a big house and a Ferrari.

Then you get Northern Ireland, Iceland etc. turn up with very little in the way of premier league level players to none and play based on pride and passion not ego and go further than billy big bollox in the competition.

Egos build complacency, complacency builds things like bad passes, lack of effort etc. and before you know it you're on the back foot and stuck in a rut. Hopefully our boys have learned from this. I think that the next couple of games will shape our season. Not in terms of the importance of the result's of those games but in terms of application. We can lose those games and still go onto achieve in this league so long as we can change the application for or during those two games. If we can't change the application from yesterday I would suggest that the first two games flatter to device and we'll end up outside of the top 7. I noted with interest that a lot of people on the phone in yesterday were saying that actually despite the results we struggled with pass completion in the first two games also but got away with it.

Hmm, heard Stuart Linnell saying that too, but yesterday was so much worse. There were a few loose passes in that match against Notts County, but nothing like on this scale. This was through the roof.

Must admit I was thinking that. Got to see the Notts country game online and didn't think it was that sloppy but only saw highlights of the Grimsby game so it was difficult to see from that.

The only thing I know for sure is that yesterday we were awful and against a better opposition we'd have been put to the sword. Yesterday was always going to be a difficult game but we made it far more difficult than it needed to be by just not getting the basic's right.

That's the sixty four million dollar question. If we wouldn't have Robins needs to make sure it doesn't happen again. We can't be loosing too many games like that if we're serious about automatics or possibly even playoffs.

When are we going to get real ? They looked a better side than us yesterday. Ok they created nothing and got a lucky goal, but they passed better than us all game.
We had one goal mouth scramble and two long range shots, how creative were we ? Get over it we are an average side that had a bad day. To be better we have to give it bollocks and work hard to get results.
Hard work and graft is the way out of this shit 4th division weather we like it or not, until we realise that we will stay where we are. (rant over :happy: )

We looked disjointed yesterday no excuses for our bad passing but all credit to Newport it was their big day out and they turned up and battled, as I said before I liked their number 6 not much got past him, it was our lack of creativity that ultimately cost us, Jones was nullified and nobody else was there to effect a plan B maybe Andreu can become our link up man/provider/plan b and Biamou coming off the bench is not going to be our impact man

It was Strachan I think back in our Premier League days who said you have to give it 10 games before you start making objective assessments on how the season is going to pan out. Especially so for us this season in an unknown league where every game is a potential banana skin. How on earth can we make ridiculous statements after 2 games that we will be unbeaten after 10 games, or that the wheels have dropped off following our first league defeat? It's way too early to form any long term view.
As it is, we are averaging 2pts a game. Keep that up over the season and it's auto promotion form.

I'm disappointed with yesterday as we all are, but 3 league games in and this seems a good squad for L2 tho for me yesterday gave no real indication to say we're a average side or real promotion contenders with so many players being poor and gifting the win to Newport.
10 games in will give us a good idea, but we can expect many more home games like that.

I'm not worried about it too much. It is the kind of game we need to be winning to have a successful season... That said, Newport with their new manager, are a good outfit. What concerns me is that we appear to struggle with teams who play 5 at the back.

I trust Robins will sort it out.

The reality is we have replaced in terms of quantity man for man, We have to see if these replacements are better and an improvement or not, I think most are but time will tell. The one and only good thing from Saturday is it's clear the current forward line as a group are not good enough and for that to show early doors for me is good. Indeed! Before a ball was kicked lots were saying that we have signed some great players and on paper it does look like good recruiting. How many came to that judgement having not seen most play I do not know. While the more sensible among us reserved judgement.

The more sensible have reserved judgement until their knee jerk reaction to say the forwards aren't good enough, on the basis of one game.

Far too many people panicking. Disappointing result but I hope the players learn from it all. Teams will put 10 behind the ball against us and we've got to learn how to deal with it. They scored a goal O'Brien saves 9/10 - it should've been a draw... I'd be more concerned if we're thoroughly outplayed, and it doesn't sound like that's how the game went.

I do think we'll mix the starting line up and Andreu will start, a player who sounds creative enough to score/assist in those kind of games.

You were in the premiership 14 years ago, you haven't been big or relevant for over a decade - we've been to Wembley twice the past few years, winning once. Those are big days out, not a trip up the M6 to play another league 2 side.

Luton were a former top flight club and we played (and beat) them in the conference, same goes for Blackpool, Pompey, Notts County etc

Football teams rise and fall, in all honesty I have no ill feeling towards Coventry, I think it's sad when teams fall by the way side by bad management and ownership.

However I think its quite patronising when fans of some of the aforementioned clubs, yourself included, think that teams coming to you will be in awe.

It was a great win for us on Saturday, mostly down to our miraculous escape last season and the feeling that has been carried over into this season.

The fact that Coventry were once a premiership team is irrelevant.

Exactly. Even the local commentator mentioned it. Much wilder than normal from away fans. As if they had won something more than just the three points and it was a cup success or promotion.
