Reading had 5 more point than us and games in hand over 3 of the top 6 and was only 8 points from top. Reading had also conceded 10 less goals than us after 29 games, and throughout the season kept 20 clean sheets - we have 5. They were able to grind out results on a regular basis, we basically have to score at least 2 to win a game.

If we do manage to match readings finish, we'll have 83 points which will probably wont be enough for automatics

We've ground out 2 games in a row haven't we? Could these 2 home wins, that we ground out for be a turning point in our season?

Defence needs to be sorted out, agreed, but 1 positive, is we don't really concede more than 1 goal, and we usually score 2, also, we have conceded many a goals when we have effectively won the game e.g. Donny.

Psychologically? I don't see how 30 years of not achieving top 6 in the top division will have any impact on them, to be frank, I'm not even sure they even know that to have it resting on their minds.

We're in a division there for the taking, we're better than at least 22 teams.

We'll see at the end of the season. Personally, I think any talk of top 2 is slightly naive.

I think 3rd-4th is realistic, but as I said, top 2 is achievable, given the resources, management and playing staff in this league.

I don't believe we'll get top 2 yet, but I certainly think we can push them.

But believing we'll just sneak 6th is a slightly cynical don't you think?

Its realistic - Not cynical.

One thing nobody has considered in this is - SWINDON - If they are as close to going into admin as has been reported then a 10 point deduction will free up a top 6 spot for sure! Thoughts?

... Because coming top 6 is like winning the CL!

The players think they can achieve promotion, I guarantee MR and co. believe it is achievable, I guess it's only the fans who are cynical because of past failures.

This is a new dawn for CCFC.

That would out them 4 point behind us but with 2 games in hand.

It's still promotion if you win the play off finishing 3rd or 6th.

All the people who think we are going to storm into the play offs and challenge for auto are getting way ahead of themselves

Who said anything like top 6 is like winning cl?! Slight over exaggeration to what's trying to be said.

That would still leave us in a good position though, if admin happened and we beat them in the home fixture that would give us the upper hand over them

We still have to play most of the teams who have games in hand on us so if we beat them we are effectively wiping off one of there games in hand

Taylor, for a team that hasn't finished top 6 for however many years, with an awful start to the season, being something like 15 points off play offs at one point then I would say 6th is anything but standard. It would be a huge achievement.

Otis, I think you're getting confused! Gary said he can't see Tranmere's or donnys wheels coming off and automatics are out.

No, not confused. Just linked the wrong quote. It was ggrady who said 85 points and automatic promotion.

I never said anyone said that.

People are saying coming 6 would be a "great achievement", which it wouldn't, you look at our squad, manager, resources it is actually, not that good. MR wouldn't have got the job had he thought top 6 would've been a 'great achievement'.

I will tell you something - from where Mark Robins started from - top 6 would be a massive achievement - were not bullet-proof!

I'm not sure you're seeing the point. After being 15 points behind, getting into the top 6 and getting a play off place would be a great achievement. No matter what the squad is, those players were not turning up for the first 8 games this season and we lost a lot of ground. In relation to where this club currently is it would be a great achievement.

It would be an 'achievement' but by no means a "great achievement", if we won the league or automatic promotion would be 'great', winning the JPT would be 'great' also, achieving top 6 would have been a standard aim for MR.

Really, 2nd bottom when he takes over and the standard aim would be play offs? I disagree completely. He had no idea how it was going to go. I stick with it being a great achievement. Something to actually cheer as a cov fan. If it happens.

We're in a bit of a false position at the moment really because of the games in the hand the teams around us have on us.

From where we are now and our squad we have yes.

No team having only had 3 points in the first 8 games have I believe ever been in the play offs. We are on an even game basis still adrift.

Strange how the barometer of failure can change manager by manager.

With 38 games left, I think it was standard. Look at the amount of points we've dropped as well.

The board wouldn't appoint someone who thought playoffs was a 'great achievement', I think this is a fact.

Why has no team in history ever achieved top 6 from that position then?

There's a first for everything isn't there?

Didn't Coppell revive Palace from bottom one season? (I stand to be corrected)

In fact, didn't Norwich, S'hampton and Scunny get off to catotrophic starts as well? I think they did.

No, it was dowie. But again, that isn't standard! Everybody thought that was a great achievement by palace! Which it would be with us too!
