Just caught some of the six nations on the Beeb and was just thinking how long would England legend Brian Moore last working for the BBC.

yes he’s comparing her language to the National Socialists - I wonder why? He also didn’t seem to cite any actual comparisons - I mean I’m sure he wasn’t trying to at all link the government to the Nazi party - I’m sure anyone who makes that comparison is really doing Gary a disservice

Today the shadow chancellor said his words wouldn’t have been what she would have said

Why on earth not?

Suddenly you're a Rachael Reeves fan!

Not even semantics, he's talking about Bravermans language, its clear as crystal.
And regardless, if Neil, Sugar and others had been censored for their political comments I'd have no problem with the sme happening to Lineker, but they weren't.
I think several million Jewish people would have something to say about the semantics ! involed in his tweet.
If he wants to have his ridiculous say to be heard at not criticized , maybe he should stand down from his highly paid role at match of the day and stand in an election, and not use his position at the BBC for his unimpartial views.

Have a listen to this

And he didn't use his position at the BBC to air his views did he?

Are you speaking for millions of Jewish people now?
Look up Joan Slater, she's a holocaust survivor who confronted Braverman and said the same thing about her language as Lineker did.
Of course other Jewish people have condemned him, it's almost as if they don't have one homogenous opinion!

The difference between 1930s nazi Germany and Britain today Mr linaker is if you said anything against the Nazis in those times you would be in a ditch with a bullet in your face , he may want to remind himself of that when making ridiculous comparisons.
He said the language was similar which it is, your point is irrelevant

this isn't really about Lineker or the language, it's all about the incompetence and lack of compassion in the Home Office, and is a total distraction form their failings.

Of course it is, spot on. While the media and social media obsesses about G, then the plebs will soon forget about the shit state of our country, failing NHS, highest energy prices in Europe, rising Interest rates, food prices and inflation. The Tories will be loving this.

Lineker should just stick to football the overpaid, big eared Leicester prick. No one wants to hear his personal political views. He should keep them to his friends and family and like minded people.
Has anyone mentioned to you it’s 2023 and there’s a thing called ‘social media’ where people say what they think on their accounts to whoever chooses to look. You don’t have to look you know. He didn’t say it on his TV programme.
Ps. Why are piping up on here rather than talking to your ‘friends and family and like minded people’?

You can't compare economic migrants to the Holocaust. In power in 1930s Germany were the Nazis.
maybe Mr linaker and his million s should build a town with good facilities for these people in France a very safe country , far wealthier than ours at the moment or even start a regeneration program in they're country's of origin instead of biting the hand that feeds him.
I ve got a feeling he won't.

Why?

I'd rather hear what he's got to say and have him help shape policy on an issue like this than a bunch of careerist millionaires that would throw every one of us on this forum under the bus if it kept them in power and position. To be clear, I'm talking about a fair few Labour and Lib Dems here, not just T*ries.

He didn't compare economic migrants to the holocaust.

You keep missing the point.

The policy in effect criminilises asylum seekers. It criminilises victims of rape, torture, and systemic abuse.

Nobody is comparing economic migrants to the Holocaust but what is simple is that it is not possible to be an illegal asylum seeker, there is no such thing. This policy seeks to make it so and has therefore been condemned by the UN, and appears to be unlawful, and in contravention of human rights policies that we have willingly signed up to.

I think the apologists are missing the point. Although he never actually uses the words , his meaning is all to obvious except for those who refuse to see it. He should apologize himself and either stick to presenting or stand down from motd.

Did you say the same when Alan Sugar was making actual, unambiguous, Nazi comparisons?

It's not about a personality it's about backing someone who is not afraid to speak out about this corrupt government
But when your employer relies on that government for its continued compulsory licence fee, maybe you should just use a little discretion and keep your gob shut and just continue to pick up your £1million salary.

And let's not forget, Mr Lineker wasn't too worried about human rights when he went to the World Cup and picked up a big fat cheque!

I'm sure I'm late to the party but this is it, this is the Tories play for the next GE.

It's the only way they have a chance, forget COVID, forget the living crisis, food banks, energy & gas prices, Brexit.

For the next two years, focus your hatred on the immigrants and those boats, tell you that labour will let in 'swarms of them' so you better vote for us unless you want to be living next to a foreigner.

It's going to get very nasty and people will fall for it.

This guy sums it up perfectly on QT, I'm surprised FionaBruceIsATory let him finish.

2bf he never talked about the Jews specifically. In 1930s Germany - the nazis used similar language in describing - travellers, gypsies, political opponents, communists, trade unionists, migrants or any other undesirable Person they deemed unworthy.

maybe we need ask why France is considered a far wealthier country for a start… that’s the real issue that’s coming out of this. Spending too much time arguing about Linekers comments rather than the shit show that’s surrounding it

Absolutely mate. People have fallen for it in the past, but I hope not again. When the cost of living crisis means some families can't afford to heat their homes or feed their children surely they don't want to see the Government wasting their money in this rubbish. We have given £140 million to Rwanda for nothing.

While there is some truth about immigration being seen as the Tories trump card, (their only one) its also not about anyone living next door to a foreigner, that just debases the issue to one of racism, which it is not.

We have numerous services that are under funded, NHS, Schools, councils, roads, etc etc, and just allowing free movement, unchecked of people into a country (any country) just continues the cost to the treasury of funding those services.

The overriding question is, if these people are in genuine fear of their lives, why didn't they plead asylum in France?

Under EU law (a treaty we are still bound by) anyone seeking asylum should do so at the first safe haven they come to. That way their numbers are allocated to member countries as per previous existing agreements.

People seeking assylum don't get to choose which country they fancy living in.

How are we still abiding to an EU law? Explain

Massive misunderstanding there - there’s no law stating the first safe country. They absolutely can choose.

We signed up to the refugee convention in the 50s that’s the governance on this, also we’re not in the EU anymore so any treaty like that wouldn’t apply to us
