In the case of Simms, the deal is structured in a way that is heavily-incentive based. We’ve not paid £8m for him nor £9m for Wright. That’s their max values.
This is why I can't take Boicey seriously. Sakamoto and Wright play the same position (on opposite sides), and both have played pretty much same minutes in the league. Yet Wright has clearly contributed more - as per stats. That being said, the opinion being floated is Sakamoto is a huge success, whilst Wright has failed and needs to be moved on.
Also, they can't spell "delusional".

My point is he played as a wing back or as an occasional 10. Wright has played across the front line every game.
Sakamoto has exceeded all expectations of him and pretty much is now an automatic choice - when at the start of the season he never looked like he would achieve that.
That’s my point
He also was t signed primarily as a goal scorer which Wright was

This isn't an anti-Wright post before I get banished, however, there needs to be nuance in the reading of the stats though. Wright's xA for the 5 assists is 0.95. Sakamoto's is 3.27 for the 2 assists he has. Sakamoto creates a lot more, it just goes unfinished. For example, Wright's assist away at Swansea (if I remember right) was a terrible first touch that someone else finished. His pass to O'Hare at Sunderland was a straightforward pass that O'Hare did really well to carve a chance from. Again, not saying Wright isn't good etc. but his assist statistic is definitely overinflated on how creative he has actually been.

You do realise Wright was bought in and played as a striker? He was switched wide because he wasn’t cutting it there and MR was searching for a way to get more out him.
Talk about clueless comparisons.
And for the record I haven’t said Wright should ‘be moved on’ I have merely said he hasn’t been ‘awesome’ or ‘excellent’ or a ‘massive success’ he was poor, then showed some potential and is now patchily inconsistent. He has much to prove before given those labels.
Some need a reality check and to cut out the fan boy crap.

Sakamoto looked pretty average at WB and AM and when he’s on form, he’s one of our best players.

You're right, mrtrench said he should be moved on, I was getting you mixed up.
We have different recollection of events. I recall Robins switching to a winger system because 3 at the back wasn't working for the entire team - not Wright alone. At this point he needed a winger on each side, and happened to have one of each - Sakamoto and Wright - hence the clamour on here in January for an extra winger. If he was going to switch a forward wide just because "he wasn't cutting it", surely he would have gone for Simms?
Saying "he is now patchily inconsistent", is an overreaction after 120 minutes minutes of football following injury.

I see these comments about Robins signing players who can deliver in the Premier League, and I’m not so sure. Of all the players we have now, it’s arguable that many of them have the quality to play successfully in the Premier League. I think Robins is choosing players to mount a serious challenge on the Championship and gain us promotion. Signing players for the Premier League is getting well ahead of ourselves, if we do get promoted there would need to be significant additions if we were to stay up. Not that I’m suggesting a Nottingham Forest type approach of scattergun signings, even if it did keep them up.

I've always maintained that new players need at least a year to 'settle' in, especially those that come from a different country.
Admittedly some settle quicker than others but as a rule new signings are better judged when they've had time to adjust to their new surroundings, team mates and tactics

I thought it had been accepted that Wright was steadily progressing since moving to the left, but really his detractors were just sitting in silence and gnashing their teeth while waiting for him to have a below average game in his first start after 5 weeks out injured.
