At the risk of sounding stupid, had we already budgeted for Sheaf out of this seasons kitty or will it come out of next seasons? I only ask as it was already agreed this season
Excellently put. At least the flops like Kasta didn’t cost us millions in transfer feesNo way of knowing the financial aspects of the deal unfortunately unless something is leaked out but I believe the structure of the deal was at least partly so we hadn't used up all our budget for the season.
On a related note, a lot of people are getting hung up on the reported fee of £750k but it's worth remembering this was only being quoted at the very start when Nixon first stated our interest & that was when he believed it would be an immediate, permanent transfer.
By doing the loan deal as we did it's possible the subsequent fee has reduced (less time on contract, we've been paying his salary for a year etc.) plus I wouldn't be at all surprised if we'd paid a small fee to secure the loan anyway.
I still really struggle to see the downside of this deal. He's already a good player (yes, he makes mistakes), he has huge scope for improvement & it's, at worst, a modest fee with a probable return on investment.
Look at some of the players being released by our competitors this last week or so that they've literally wasted millions on;
Diedhiou £5.3m to Bristol City - released on a free
Baldock/Aluko approx. £11m for both to be absolutely awful at Reading & then released for nothing.
Flick through some of the released lists, the return on investment by & large is horrendous.
We're not going to get it right every time (especially shopping at Aldi whilst most are at Waitrose) but generally we're doing the right things - trust the process.
Surely this would be a replacement for allenKelly
Walsh
Hamer
Sheaf
James
Eccles
Ain’t happenings if sheaf has sighed as has been reported it’s out of James and Walsh knowing how we work Walsh will be the target
Haha not DB I'm afraidHow do you know so much better days? Are you DB?
If we had all of the above, that would be amazing.I’ve been thinking about a midfield of sheaf, Walsh, Hamer, O’Hare...best young midfield in the championship?
Ps
I want us to sign James
Nigel Pearson was the last manager to sign James for a feeWalsh or James ?
My guess is a players Dad/Brother/RelativeHow do you know so much better days? Are you DB?
I'm sure we've had a thread saying better days is DB...if not, maybe you are Mrs DB?Haha not DB I'm afraid
I just know a few people in the game
In the case of Ben Sheaf I just heard he'd told several people that he is now with us permanently
Have a look on the eflzone account on Twitter.
Some of our fans are proper twats.
“we knew he wasn’t good enough before we signed him last year so why are we bothering now” knobhead

Absolutely clueless.Couple more gems...
, Yes women usually have a bit more sense. Saying that, I'll bet you would be surprised, I reckon we have a number of female sky blue fans on here....
Shame there’s not more still. We definitely do. I can think of 1 or 2 very knowledgeable female posters on here.
We probably do have more, but perhaps they don't want to reveal whether they are male of female - doesn't really matter as long as people are sky blue fans!Shame there’s not more still.
Their end of season pod had some very odd views on it. Lots of shout for Hyam as one of the PotS and a lot of Fadz criticism.Nii Lampety podcast getting in on the Sheaf hate now. “If James is a car Sheaf is a unicycle” and “MR should tell Sheaf what Jarni did was a good thing”.
Last time I listened one of them lost their shit about some very mild criticism of Bakayoko so it’s a bit rich.
Get em cancelled.
Arseholes. They don’t like it if you have a different view on Twitter and get pissy at you.Their end of season pod had some very odd views on it. Lots of shout for Hyam as one of the PotS and a lot of Fadz criticism.
Phenomenal value for meI sincerely hope these rumours aren’t true. I’d take him on a free as backup, but 750k seems like a colossal waste of money.
Can't be true, I read on here Robins was getting us out of the deal??!
I understand your point but it’s just the ups and downs of transfers. If Hamer moves on for £5m + we will have invested very wisely in him, but maybe less wisely in Sheaf ( hopefully he will be much better next season ) .I honestly hope we can get out of this deal but doubt we will if what Nixon says is true which would make sense. Sheaf unfortunately just isn’t near our starting 11 so to spend $750k on someone to sit on the bench all season is wasteful when that’s the price we’d pay for a starting 11 player
