Walsh had a habit of giving the ball away a lot early on in his spell with us by trying to do too much going forward or in dangerous areas. If Sheaf is similar and we manage to train it out of him in the same way but he's also over 6ft and strong in the tackle he'll be a hell of a footballer.
That video shows a very good all round midfielder. I'm not writing Kelly off but the idea of Sheaf and Hamer winning the ball back and pinging it forward for O'Hare and Allen buzzing around Godden with Dabo on the overlap is complete pornography.Don't know if anybody put this on here... One of the articles I read online earlier mateWhere have you seen that Robins is a big fan?

The reported fee suggests to me that he will be starting if this one turns out to be true. We will be signing better than what we currently have rather than signing for squad depth.
Hamer and Sheaf to be the midfield partnering. Kelly providing the depth.

Think he means this transferAre you on about this transfer or in general?
I wouldn't expect Hilsner to be ahead of Allen or O'Hare for example.

I know the man personally and he is an insider. He doesn’t make stuff up for the fun of it.
This is the sort of player that at 22 can have 2 or 3 good championship seasons and be worth 15-25 mill... The risk is absolutely worth it and he looks like a player perfect to continue developing... Staying in the championship or above though is the only way to reap that benefit

Never really trusted him since that South Park episode...Dawkins says it done. Know he's a bit of an attention seeker but can't deny he's usually bang on with the info.
I meant in general but you raise a valid point. I do think given the fee, age and pedigree of the player this one screams first team starter to me though.
I'm also thinking we'll probably have a similar situation to Doyle in that first year back in L1 (which someone referenced earlier). I guess Kelly might be used initially as we acclimatise to the level, keeping a young squad in check, but will ultimately be replaced by a bigger and better machine. Ruthless but necessary.
Cheeky sod, just beat me to it! I took too long over mine.Kelly has been absolutely integral to us since the second half of our League 2 season. He’s coped with the step up in quality whenever required despite many people thinking that he might struggle. Let’s see.
The model suggested here is a good one but it doesn’t always work out for the incomes, remember Agogo?
I wouldn't be too quick to write off Kelly. His experience and leadership is vital (and he has quality-Scotland International Liam Kelly, as Rangers TV put it!). I'd expect it to be more like the 500-700k range of the fees mentioned for Sheaf, but even that is not extorionate for Championship level and seems about right for a good L1 player, unproven in the Championship with some weaknesses but plenty of potential to improve at the right team (which we certainly are-we'd really suit his game I think).
Walsh blossomed with Kelly alongside him. We need to look it at more as a "2 from 3" rotational situation with Kelly, Hamer and Sheaf (if we do sign him, or someone else if we don't bring him in). There were times when we needed to rest Kelly last season when he was exhausted but there was simply nobody else near his quality in that position: he was too essential. That would get exposed at this higher level, but this would right that. We need to remember that Hamer is young, adapting to a new country and also won't play every minute of every game, either, so we need quality in depth. With these three and one of Eccles (if not on loan)/Pask/Shipley/Allen as the 4th choice option DMC rather than 3rd, I'd be much happier.
There's also an element of succession planning here which is great to see: the management team really know how to build a squad and are adapting to doing it a third time at a third different level!
I don’t think it’s forgone conclusion Kelly would drop to the bench if Sheaf comes in, even at the quoted £900k.
Kelly is a leader, and he an McFadz formed a really good leadership core in our team last season. Going up a league, we need to keep this intact or, new leaders have to brought in.
Sheaf looks like he’ll make a good signing, good at tackling and passing. At 22, and zero Championship experience, he’s likely someone who’ll be developed a bit before starting consistently for the first team.
The more I read about him, the more I like this signing.
I live surrounded by Donny fans and those with a brain wound love to sign him permanently and a number have said he was there player of the year.
They think he is to good for league 1 and will do well in the championship.

Agreed I don't think the intention is for him to come in and take Kelly's place every week that's for certain, I do think him and McFadz will the key cogs in the wheel to ensuring our younger players develop and it's critical they play a part this season in doing that baring in mind their ages and experience.
I do think he'll be counted on though as a rotational from the offset though and be brought into the lineup fairly quick as you'd think we would spend what little money we have on key players that are going to make an impact especially when that money could be a vital game changer in getting in a decent second forward to add to the mix.
It's good to hear that, I've seen a few sound lads on the banter page that seem to be level headed commented positively on him it just seemed like a lot of trolls that called out Marko putting in a negative opinion and we all know how that one turned out.
Agreed, even Doyle kept his place for the first half of our first season in L1.
When you have a young team such as ours, you can’t take out the leadership figures without replacing them. Therefore, if the intent is to start Sheaf and Hamer, we desperately need an experienced head somewhere else.
It’s no secret how highly Robins rates Kelly. Sheaf must be a special talent to keep him out of the team.
