Still fades in games for me needs to take them by the scruff of the neck more.
Stand out for me was first half against Fulham away, champions elect and their midfield couldn't get near him and hamer for 45 minutes.

Definitely in the future but I think Gus would take over provided he stays.

Will take over captaincy at some point this season

I don’t think so. Longer term, my guess would be Thomas or Lati (once Fadz, Kelly and Gus are no longer in the picture). Sheaf always seems more happy to be in the background, doesn’t seem the sort to push himself front & centre. That doesn’t take away from him being a superb player though.

Simmo, Simmo, Simmo, Simmo

Not quite the same quality as in the original to be fair!

I said a couple of seasons ago he’s captain material and got laughed at - at least he’s finally getting some proper recognition.
Yes another young player that attracted loads of negatives "too slow" etc.,

Our fans are quick on the negatives and stubborn about changing opinions.

Quality player.

People were saying on another thread that him and Eccles couldn't play in front of the back 3 together if Hamer goes. Why is that? If the front 3 and wing backs were creating chances would it not work?

just don’t think with Eccles and Sheaf you’d get enough drive. You need someone who will pick the ball up in our half and push into theirs. Sheaf does that occasionally. Plus you’re losing 10 goals, Eccles and Sheaf between them might get 5 in a good season.

Do you think before this last season, when O'hare was fit, we were much less reliant on Hamer driving forward from deep - that was more of a role Cal carried out? Obviously at the time he also had the league's best stats for turning over possession. I think O'hare's injury allowed Hamer to become that player. O'hare might not come back the same player as he was, and it will at least take a while, but certainly in those front 3 I feel as though there was always one player that could have been upgraded on due to injuries - Allen, Godden, etc.

Id like to see us get a pacey hard working forward to go with Simms, and O’Hare back. But those are big ifs.

I think I’d want better than Dasilva going forwards as well, someone closer to MvE’s level on the left. Then I’d be less concerned about having a standard DM alongside Sheaf.

What do you think of a front 3 of Simms/Palmer/Sakamoto (O'hare), if Sakamoto was match fit?

Maybe. I’d like to see more of Sakamoto, and I’d be wary about pushing Palmer too wide. Perhaps Palmer playing more of a 10 and Sakamoto drifting side to side as he seems comfortable doing.

But a lot of Hamer's goalscoring came when he was being given the freedom to push forward a bit more.

Having Sheaf and Eccles together wouldn't be a problem if Hamer is still here as he can use his creativity to help support and feed Simms as well as get more chances himself. Plus I think those two would give the WB's a bit more freedom to get forward and create as well.

Robins said last season that Eccles could play a more advanced role. I'm sure he even said he could be a 10, which seems a bit of a stretch.

Jamie Allen wore the armband when Fadz was unavailable last season. Am I right in thinking Godden has worn it before too? Sheaf will hopefully be a mainstay in our midfield for the next few years so agree with the OP he's a great candidate for it. Bobby Thomas seems to have a bit of character about him in interviews too so it'll be interesting to see his development towards future captain material

That’s a new one! Good in interviews so could be captain in future...perhaps Dean Austin should be looking at the Graham Norton show?

I agree I don’t see Eccles as a 10 either. Not clever enough with his final pass / shot.

I do think he could make a good box to box midfielder though ….
