Villa away when we got relegated was pretty special. Ultimately ended badly of course but until that point when Derby were winning and we were losing then if we are discussing atmosphere it was electric.

You'll have to forgive me if my memory is bad but one of my favourites was against Leicester at filbert street, Fa Cup I think. We took the lead early on, then someone got sent off Boatang I think. They missed a penalty at the end of the first half, They laid seige to our goal from the moment we went down to 10 men, we scored twice at the death to win 3-0, Telfer perhaps, Whelan? Never has a 3-0 game been so nail biting and tense.

The Atmosphere at the end of the last JPT game was pretty special, certainly my favourite Ricoh moment.

Good call on the Leicester game. I remember a few coins whizzing past my head and the walk back to the car was err... Tasty.

Off the wall one here. Half time in the early 90's and nuddy had equaliser on the stroke of half time after running the length of the pitch. The whole city away contingent chanted sky blue army during the whole of half time. Spectacular fun at the time

1967 beating Wolves 3-1 at Highfield Road to go up as Division 2 champions. Unbelievable atmosphere, crowd of 51000 plus, climbing up the floodlights to watch the match. Nothing but he '87 final to match it since then!

I recall us singing Twist and Shout non-stop for about 20 minutes at Portman Road one year and watching the players clearly gaining energy from the incessant noise - and they repaid us with a goal!

We sang it for about 10-15 Minutes in the 2nd half at Spurs in the FA Cup this year and you could see the lads were pushing Spurs back.. We should make it law now that we have 15 Minute Twist and Shout stint ;)

One of the overall loudest games I've been to was the Norwich away game when they got promoted a few years back.
25k Norwich
And 1500 Cov singing their hearts out non stop. They gave all 25k of norwich fans them clap banger things, and the noise was immense!

Away to Liverpool in league cup 1977. In credible atmosphere, 10 000 city fans. Wallace gave us the lead against an incredible Liverpool team including Dalglish. Went 2-1 down but came back in second half. Powell equalised and Tommy Hutch scored a perfectly good winning goal which was disallowed. First time I had ever witnessed city outsing the kop.
Pity about the replay............

It's one of the reasons I believe if we get to Wembley for the JPT or for the Play-Offs we can generate a brilliant atmosphere.. Go to Wembley and show them how loud the Sky Blue Army can be ;)

Best atmosphere for me has got to be the 1987 quarter final against sheff wednesday at Hillsborough. 15,000 cov fans in the leppings lane end and we only got 14,000 average for home games at the time. The singing from the cov fans throughout the whole of the half time interval was unbelievable. Gave me goosebumps.
Another one has got to be wimbledon away at Selhurst Park when we won 2-0 and we were fighting relegation. can't remember which season but there was thousands of city fans there. Remember being over the moon when we won but then found out that all the teams in the bottom 3 had won as well including Man City who had beaten the Villa. You could never rely on the Villa to do us a good turn.

I wonder if there is any videos on the net of the atmosphere at Hillsborough in the Quarter Final of the cup because a lot of people have mentioned it

Been mentioned on this thread a couple or three times already - but as one of the 51455 who packed HR in 1967 (against Wolves) I'm damned sure there'll never be a sky blue atmosphere to touch it....

I was never alive to see that one Kneeza but I remember my Dad and my Uncle used to say it was nearer 60,000 capacity then the report 51,455, did it seem like to the people who can remember it?

Man United at home when Huckerby scored in the last minute was incredible! Never celebrated a goal like that before. Was in the West Terrace. Man United away was sweet as well.

Oh and Villa at home where we won 3-0 on Valentines day ranks highly!

Fa Cup semi at Hillsborough. I stood right in the top left hand corner & the banking & curve meant I could easily see as well as hear the SBA singing "You are my City"...& "...score in a minute..." - we were all SO together...brings a lump to the throat

Arrived at ten to three and the gates were shut.
But My Dad bribed the gateman and I crawled in under the turnstile.....he went over the top.
There was a walkway behind and below the old west end full of hundreds who just couldn't get in. Every vantage point was taken; on the roof...up the walls and higher and higher up the floodlights. When the match started some gaps appeared as the crowd surged forward and we shoved our way in..... I was wedged in so tightly my feet were way off the ground and breathing was difficult. The heat and din was terrific........woodbine smoke and rattles.....cov and wolves,.... all in it together. The official gate 51,000 was way off....could've been by as much as 10,000.....who knows.
But I was there for the 47,000 v Utd a year later and that was nowhere near as full.

Remember it oh so well. Nuddys run and chipping Nev Southall was spectaular and the chanting during half time was immense. I remember Bobby Gould writing in the next home games programme notes that John Motson had approached him after the game and had said how impressed he had been with the fans enthusiasm.

Another similar situation that got the hairs on the back of my neck tingling was in 1988, again against Everton. Home game, and Gary Bannister and Speedo scored in a 2-0 win. Half way through the second half, the West Terrace began the "Sky Blue Army" chant. Even the Police got spooked (not in the good way) by the emotion of it. This was also the game that Speedie climbed the infamous pitchside fences after scoring, forgetting the metal shards on top and ripping the palms of his hands open.

Brilliant memories

Best for me was the 87 q/f and semi-final - others that I'll always remenber were away cup replays at QPR (lost 3-2 in the last minute) and Derby in the early 70's when Cross scored the winner in extra time to win 1-0. The 4-1 win over Everton in May 85 and the 4-0 win over Liverpool in Dec 83.

Is it sad my best experience of a cov game (atmosphere and result) is the preston game in the jpt? Convinced my dad to go at the last minute, just father and eldest son for first time in a long time, went mental and hugged as the 3rd went in, then to the pub after!

The atmosphere generated by sticking everyone in one stand and that being close to full was amazing, its a shame it wont be repeated for crewe but im hoping we do get past the 20K mark so everyone isnt completely spread out.

I had a season ticket at highfield road but it was an awful season and i cant remember many positive moments, and my only other season ticket was the first season at the ricoh,
Im 20 btw, hardly any HR memories:(

I wouldn't say thats sad. I've been watching city since 1994, so I remember HR pretty well. The JPT game was the only time in all those years that I've seen us win from a losing position in injury time. The feeling when that went in was amazing and difficult to top.

However I wouldn't say that it was the best atmosphere, for that I would have to say either Blackburn in the cup at the Ricoh, or Chelsea at HR around '97 when they wore our away kits.

Best atmosphere at The Ricoh for me was the 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough, first season there, prem team in the third round, good pricing, 28,000 crowd and an absolute beautiful finish from Stern John for the equaliser.

Strangely for the full house against Chelsea in the Cup Quarter-final I found the atmosphere to be a little flat, as well as the performance.

Think you hit the nail on the head about the performance. Game was a perfect symbol of Colemans negative tactics I'm afraid.

I would have rathered we went all out attack & got beat 1-5 instead of the very tame 0-2.

Charlton at home in the FA Cup in 2000.

We were cruising at 2-0 and one of their fans at the front of the away end was getting untold stick as he had a "Biggles" flying jacket on but too be fair to the lad he took it well.

Charlton turned it around and they ended up winning 3-2 and were all singing "2 nil down, 3 2 up we're gonna win the FA Cup!".

The atmosphere that day was electric and you went through the whole range of emotions.

Beating Chelsea first game of the season, Dion hat trick.
Winning at Liverpool the season we stayed up at spurs, strachan was awesome, think Dion got the winner!
Too many great atmospheres to mention, could go on all day.

The League cup run of 1981 was really special. We beat Watford at home 5-0 in the QF and then in the first leg of the SF against Wet Spam we came from 0-2 down at half time to win 3-2. Such a shame we never made it to Wembley in that year.
