Best Championship Games (1 Viewer)

Been trying to think of the best games we were involved with in the Championship and am surprised at how few come to mind. I suppose it was a period when we didn't play particularly entertaining football. Obviously the last game at Highfield Road and the first game at the Ricoh Arena were brilliant. Any other highlights come to mind?

Theres one game I remeber, bit it was because of a bet I had rather than the actual game being memorable!
Was against Preston. I'd had a scorecast. Deegan to score first, city to win 2-1. Of course, Deegan didnt start so I automatically gave up on my bet. Anyway, long story short, mid way through the 2nd half and Deegan came on at 0-0 and scored first...... but we drew 1-1

The 4-3 win against Man City in the year after we were relegated will live long in the memory (although technically not named ‘the championship’ at this stage). The season where Adams got us to 8th wasn’t bad, but in general we were never really very good during our entire stay!
I'm pretty sure, it was rebranded as the Championship the 1st season we were in it? I may be wrong, but I'll have a little google and come back!

Ignore me! Was 3 years later!

That was a great game.
Remember we smashed Crewe and Walsall 6-1 in the early 2000s but not really great games.

Edit: We also smashed Derby 6-1 at the Ricoh 6 months after the last game at HR. Which I think was also the game that Ray Winstone did the filming bit at HT.

For me, the 1-0 win over Wolves was a great game. Topped off with a last minute penalty save!

Although we lost, losing 4-2 against Southampton (relegation year) was an entertaining game.

The purple patch in 03/04 including the 1-0 v West Brom when Johnny Jackson got a late winner and the place went nuts, a 6-1 at Walsall, and an absolute thrashing of Preston, we weren’t good enough to go up but for a while it was highly entertaining stuff.

Was that when we were 4-0 up after half an hour? One of those games that almost feels like an anti-climax at the end because we didn't score again and Preston bagged in the second half.

That Jackson goal is one of my all-time favourite moments, absolute bedlam. Beating a local rival who were top at the time in the 90th minute, you love to see it.

I remember the Barnsley games we always seemed to win and I think a game we won against Norwich where Chris Birchall got his first goal

Although we generally finished in the bottom half of the Championship, we did quite well in our 1st game every season. The only one we lost was in our relegation season. Before that we had 2001/02 Stockport (A) 2-0, 2002/03 Sheff Utd (H) 2-1, 2003/04 Walsall (H) 0-0, 2004/05 Sunderland (H) 2-0, 2005/06 Norwich (A) 1-1, 2006/07 Sunderland (H) 2-1, 2007/08 Barnsley (A) 4-1, 2008/09 Norwich (H) 2-0, 2009/10 Ipswich (H) 2-1, 2010/11 Portsmouth (H) 2-0. The Walsall game was the only disappointing one out of that lot.

The 4-2 win away at leaders West Brom springs to mind, we were 2-0 up at half time but West Brom came out all guns blazing in the 2nd half and got it back to 2-2, Paul Robinson then got sent off and we went on to win the game.

I remember the Ipswich game was Roy Keane's first in charge. Think we were live on sky as well. A good win.

You've missed the relegation season where we lost at home to Leicester and the writing was firmly on the wall

Remember us winning successive away games under McAllister in late 2002, away at Wolves and then Stoke I think. McAllister scored a beauty at Wolves

Read it back - I mentioned that loss! You are right though, we had no chance that season. This was a low point under SISU's reign, where they effectively gave up on the football club, allowing Andy Thorn to preside over a team that lost the likes of Westwood, Turner, Gunnarsson and King in the Summer, and Jutkiewicz in January, without any adequate replacements. We had three 17 year olds playing in that Leicester game which was ridiculous. We abandoned our Championship place with a whimper, and given it has been such a long process getting back there lets hope we tough it out this time.

Thrashing Walsall away before sacking EB is probably my favourite Championship away day. The home equivalent is defo a thinker, there were plenty.

What was that gameat the Ricoh in 2005 or 2006 where Adams had to make 3 changes at once, and until then we were really poor, and that completely changed it?
