Best (or Worst) Ever Loan Players (1 Viewer)

With the loan window open, and our owners hinting that they are after some quality players, I started to ask myself about past loanee's. I think it's fair to say we've had a few duff 'uns in our time, but we've also had a few half-decent ones too. In recent times people like Stephen Warnock and Jordan Henderson, and even Richie Partridge to a degree, and back to days when I was a little younger, people like Jose Perdomo and Chris Marsden.

On the other side of the coin we had people like Brian Kerr and Adam Virgo...

I wondered who else stood out in your minds?

Did I imagine Jamie McMaster or was that real?

Also Vicente Engonga, although I can't remember if he was a loan or a short-term contract. Either way, bumping the average age of the team up by a good 8 years by himself.

Jordan Henderson is a good example of how to use the loan system.

McMaster was indeed real!

Thinking of imaginary ones, didnt we have James Milner on loan from Leeds under McAllister??

Enginga was a signing I believe as apposed to a loan.

Jose Perdomo

I remembered today that I lost the programme to my first ever City game, signed by all the players, including Perdomo. Didn't we miss out on getting him because his agent disappeared or something?

Lee Sawyer was awful, I always thought Gary Madine had something about him, we might find out how he'll do at this level next season.

Craig Hignett nearly got us within a playoff place till he got injured, the kind of midfielder we need now.
Too many shite loans to mention.

Who was that striker we had from Blackburn on loan for a while? He was brilliant for them. I saw him in the Shell petrol station at the top of the Parade in Leam once in a massive 4X4.

Matt Jansen, superb. I think he is still player-coach under Gary Flitcroft at Chorley. Needless to say, they steamed their league last season and were top in the one above this year when I looked again.

Warnock was the best for me, although Hignett was a class above for those few games. Bjarni G was awesome on loan under Black but rubbish after under..ahh, Peter Reid, say no more. Henderson was very good but not as great as people remember-it was playing well at Sunderland that made his name rather than with us, which is why we shoulda bloody signed him when we had the chance!

French CB, 1 or 2 games on loan from Bolton; name eludes me, but bloody awful. I want to include Michael Bischoff, but he was perm (and hastily released). Shocking.

always had a big problem with loanees, its like they aren't really your players, thats just me.

always amused me when Mick Ferguson rejoined us on loan from Brum, scored and sent them down. Then we said "Cheers Mick, go back to Brum now!"

Matt Jansen? Wasn't just coming back from a horrific injury when he came on loan?

Yes he was. Then again, we wouldn't have had him otherwise. Thanks all for reminding me who he was.

Cork was disappointing for me. Never seemed to quite get into gear. Best, for me, as I mentioned earlier was Richie Partridge. I remember him getting a couple in the League Cup when we scored 8 or what it 9 at HR?

I liked jack cork. He was a useful player who never seemed to make a bad pass. Also wasn't Van Aholt (sp?) pretty decent too? And I think Jon Stead had a good loan spell for us.

I recall an awful performance from Detsi Krusyinski away at Wycombe, we lost on the night but we went through over the two legs courtesy of a 3-0 win in the 1st leg.

I also recall the game because it was where I found out Big Jim Holton had died. :(

Does anybody remember Matt Mills in 2004/2005? My lasting memory of him was that he once scored an incredible goal. He got beyond the opposition player, and lobbed the keeper brilliantly......a shame it was an own goal really.....

Must admit, I tend to forget about loan players once they've returned to their clubs, but one that stood out massively for me was (already mentioned) Stephen Warnock. Played his heart out for us!

Warnock by a country mile - even now when I see him playing I think of him as an ex-City player. Henderson was good. Worst ones is too long a list but as a let down after such a massive build up the kid from Bolton, Danny Ward, last season did nothing except lead to us having a transfer embargo - not his fault obviously!
