Wouldn't surprise me, they bunged £50,000 of taxpayers money to the LTA for the Davis Cup.
They need to have words with their PR team. Shouldn't really be tweeting last night saying there's a big announcement tomorrow if its not until next week.
50K is peanuts. The sentence 'heavily subsidised in CT article suggests this sponsorship involves a larger sum, after all the crowds will be 30K+ on 2 days.
However the ticket price was the same at Plymouth. http://www.mtv.co.uk/mtv-crashes-plymouth/news/get-ready-plymouth-mtv-crashes-is-back
I see the concert is broadcast on MTV (unsurprisingly), good publicity.
You can have 2 big announcements surely ?
Of course you can have 2 big announcements, but we haven't had one yet. Just some crap pop music coming to town.
Like me you may not follow pop music but 35,000 both days over 3 years is not a small announcement.
Thats the Big announcement! Fuck all to do with CCFC by the way, i think the clue is in the Strap Line "RICOH big announcement soon"
I think I'm too old for their designs, without making myself look (even more) ridiculous.
+1 to that. Whilst it may be lovely for the yoof who listen to modern music, I couldn't name an album let alone an actual song from most of those listed.
You're right, never heard of Plymouth before last years MTV concert there, and now can't move for the hordes of Chinese, American and Japanese tourists thronging the streets after seeing it on MTV.
....and to be fair....I believe the Plymouth one was held on the hoe....so it would've actually looked quite nice on the telly.....
...whereas this one will be in a concrete & plastic football, sorry, rugby bowl just off the M6....
...living the dream!
Well to be fair if you follow the consensus on this thread most people seem pretty underwhelmed and I think you currently are the one who bucks that trend..
I take it without checking the internet, or before huge announcement, that you knew of last years huge event in Plymouth? when it was? where it was? who played? etc
Apologies Italia, publicity shy Ann Lucas also thinks its huge. Thats two of you now.
An interesting side story for the CT to feature could be "local entrepreneurial hypocrite makes fortune from car parking" Would make an interesting read I'm sure
Maybe they should ask Lucas why, if this is worth so much to the area, the council turned down 2 free concerts at the Memorial headlined by Foo Fighters and Lady Gaga? Surely that would have had similar worth?
They did indeed. Radio One Big Weekend 2011:
Which is, or at least was at the time, the largest free music event in Europe. And is broadcast on BBC radio and television. The host city has to stump up about £50K worth of infrastructure for the event but the return was estimated to be in the £1.5 - 2m range for that years event.
Indeed! I'm sure it means lots of car park revenue for you.
Wasn't it more like £150k and the reason they claimed that they wouldn't do it was because it would have meant that there wouldn't have been enough money available to have the Godiva festival which had already been announced, planned and promoted?
So you confirm it's a big event for Coventry and local businesses ?
Well done CCC and ACL. Should put Coventry back on the radar :claping hands:
So now the actual city is below the radar as well?
That's a bit strange, I'd have thought with the richest rugby franchise in the world moving to the city, Coventry would be world-renowned already!
Just like with Plymouth last year, everyone was talking about it......or not
They have issues with the locals about the noise levels for the Godiva festival... I can't imagine the Foo's agreeing to "keep it down a tad" can you?
No chance it would have been anywhere near to £150K, more like a third of that. If CCC think it was £150K they are either doing something very wrong or money is going somewhere it shouldn't.
But even if it was £150K you would have thought it was worth it to bring 10 times that into the city. Strange how that is unaffordable but there's no problem raiding the cities reserves to bail out ACL.
Didn't even get to the point of anyone having a chance to object!
Seemed to manage to stage the event in Manchester, Cardiff, Derry (twice), Birmingham, Sunderland, Dundee, Preston, Maidstone, Swindon, Bangor, Carlise (the replacement for Coventry), Hackney, Glasgow and Norwich without any issues.
Well, that's what was reported at the time. What are you basing your figure of £50K on? Any reference?
I've project managed lots of similar events and put the budgets together. What is required for One Big Weekend shouldn't really be costing much more than £50K.
Found this in the Telegraph archives:
Sadly my Dad suddenly passed away last week at the age of 62, he was a massive City fan and followed the team home and away when he could, he took...
There are two cup finals at the Ricoh Arena this week; the first of which is this evening when Woodlands FC take on Chelmsley Town...
Looks to be a single game to start with, aren't they only semi pro? Same sort of thing as Bedworth United?
So I know that there arn't many of us heading down but to those who are; what pubs you heading for?
