Just tried to book mine with Jet2 not given the option of Birmingham.
That's annoying - Easyjet and Ryanair still allow you to - worth a call to Jet2 though as you normally can

If you are flying with Jet2, you can use their stairs/escalator from check-in upto security. It cuts out some of the outside queuing.

I've been right at the back of the outside queue recently and although it looks daunting, it moves quickly. You rarely stand still. Took about 50 mins and that was from outside right at the end of the terminal. And despite the scare stories, people are very rarely missing flights. There are member of staff which move you forward in the queue if your boarding time is approaching.

Not denying it's very poor at the moment, but the problem is being exasperated by people turning up far too early for their flights.

Considering it’s England’s second city’s airport, that really shouldn’t be an issue.

never had an issue out of maybe 100 flights out of there, yet had big issues at heathrow / stansted and many overseas airports . (hope im not tempting fate for my next flight in august)

We were there a Thursday at around 6. Took about 45 minutes from the queue to the new lifts through to security. One of the problems is that people are reading about all the queues so are getting there earlier to avoid them but are then just compounding the problem. There were people in the queue behind us who were there four hours early!!!

It’s hardly surprising though and more evidence that it’s not fit for purpose.

Went to Malta a few weeks ago from Birmingham. Was through security very quickly - about 30 minutes. It was a 6AM flight though and I was at the airport about 2:15AM. It took longer getting through passport control in Malta on the way back

Says it all that getting through security in 30 mins is considered very quick. 😂😂😂

I think the expectations planted have been massively changed now. With the airport blaming the passengers as well, I think some people are starting to believe it. The reality is that it is a dog shit airport and it should be avoided out of principal alone for what they are doing.

I mean, if you’re expecting circa 30,000-35,000 commuters to get through an airport without a minor hitch every day, that’s a you problem.

It really isn't.

Other airports manage it perfectly fine. For its size, BHX really isn't that busy anyway. They're fucking things up massively.

Oh I agree. I don’t know specifically what they’re doing so wrong to cause the early mess. But it’s never always gonna go swimmingly, as people seem to expect. People have listed airports above as being bad that others have had no problems at. JFK, Heathrow, EMA, a few examples. Luck shouldn’t have anything to do with it, but I guess it does 🤷‍♂️

JFK is probably one of the biggest airports in the world. Birmingham is just very badly run and shouldn’t even be comparable to it.

Obviously there are operational issues at BHX…but part of the problem is the number of people who get to the front of queue and then decide that’s the time they’ll take their watches/ coats off and empty their pockets of shitloads of coins. Boils my piss.

Agree but especially those who walk through with shit in their pockets a few times and act surprised each time the metal detector goes off.

You haven't left the country in twenty years but you fill the politics forum with bilge around other cultures and far left rhetoric? I'm not sure anyone is going to take you seriously on this forum again when you try to police their language and jump on anybody with a different opinion and label them various names.

We're flying out at 7am next Tuesday, and I have taken all the steps i can to avoid getting delayed. We have booked FastTrack for a fiver a head (whoever is charging you £20 is ripping you off).
The main issue, i understand, is that the clowns in charge decided that during the redesign they would take out the main escalators to the security level, (who needs rapid people movement, right?), so a lot of the queuing is for the fucking lifts!!!
To avoid this, we are parking at International Station (40 quid less than on-airport) and getting the monorail direct to the upper level of the terminal. Colleague did this with her daugther at 5am yesterday and no queues whatsoever.

It is a morning problem, but that's when the majority of flights are from BHX - but the airport seems surprised that so many people are turning up at that time, so don't plan for it. It's not like they have booked, or anything ....!
Absolute fucking shower in charge!

And don't get me started on Swissport ground handling ....

Blimey.... bit off topic.
.... to expand slightly.....young kids and studies have hampered jetting off somewhere hot in last 20 years since honeymoon touring around Mexico and studying/visiting many European cities for work as an urban designer.
In that time have still been on holidays regularly to Germany, Holland and France as I live in Kent and its easy to drive.
Interesting to know there is a correlation between flying abroad and having left of centre politics / standing up against racism and misogyny (because I have a daughter I respect and I want a better world for!!! )
Not sure I'm the one having any loss of credibility on this forum...... (that said due to the diversity on here probably none has any credibility with exception of MMJ, Otis and Pete)
Anyway back to airports.....
Mexico City and Acapulco airports sound better than brum.

Took about 15 minutes for the daft twats to place the stairs correctly against the plane (how do you get that wrong?) but then after that was straight in and through customs in about 10mins (manually checking passports as opposed to the scanners) and then probably about another 10 mins to get the bags and then we were straight out into the glorious driving rain!

Liverpool airport is the best I've used in the UK. Not very big and you fly through security easily, never any queues. Jet2 have just started from there too now. Would reccomend it.

Manchester isn't too bad now either. Well, T3 is a joke but the new terminal is decent.

Bump.

Has anyone flown from BHX in the afternoon recently? How has it been from about midday onwards?

Get the train to International (or park there - it is cheaper than the airport), then the monorail to BHX. Wasn't too bad when we did it at 4am, and later in the day is better, i believe. If you are worried, see if you can shell out a fiver pp on Fast Track.
