I thought Liam Kelly had a pretty positive impact on the game last night, and looked a lot sharper than I thought he would after so long out.
Imagine he'll be starting on Saturday unless Allen or Sheaf are miraculously fit again
Agree.

The next three matches are (obviously) hugely important and we can’t have young kids having stage fright. We need an older head in the middle to keep things calm, plus, Kelly as skipper needs to get into the refs ear about the fouling to Vik.

If Sheaf is fit, I’d bring Kelly In alongside him and have Eccles central with Hamer roaming.

Godden can sit on bench.

He was really good off the ball, pressed well, won some tackles and helped organise the midfield. But he’s just so limited on the ball.

Not sure if he’ll be able to last 90 but no issue with him starting at the weekend based on last night’s performance (not the mention the fact we have no choice!).
He was better than I expected too. He added some bite and aggression in midfield. Was pushing people around and leaving his foot in. In possession he looked slow and lacking agility though, think he might struggle a bit when everyone is flying around at the start of a match.

He was my favourite player for a few seasons until Hamer came along, so it would be really nice if his farewell could be performing well in a couple victories that propel us to the playoffs. I’d retain him for the first match in the PL too of course, so he will play for us in all 4 divisions 😜

I don’t get the Kelly thing, I think he’s like a crab, too sideways all the time, some good positioning but then just goes side, back or its an aimless lob or chip forward.
think it must be me and I’m being hyper critical of his errors and not picking up on the other stuff but I genuinely don’t think he is the answer in 3 games we have to win, doesn’t have the legs to really drive that tempo but if it frees up Hamer then maybe it is the answer.

id give them the day off today to rest and sleep or get them in that cryo chamber in the car park at the training ground

Kelly did some lovely really late off the ball pushes that the referee never notices. Just little things like that adds some fight and presence that a quite a few of our other players are lacking.
Not that great on the ball, but that's what Eccles and Hamer add to the midfield

Ideally he isn’t the answer, but with Sheaf, Allen, O’Hare and Palmer out we have little choice.

The alternatives to Kelly are Howley, Maguire or JWE (at AM). So I think he deserves a start really.

Of course we wouldn't want to have to play him on Saturday but if Sheaf and Allen are injured who else would you play? I think his experience was useful last night but I would be amazed if he lasted the 90 minutes on Saturday.

Panzo into LCB and Doyle into midfield might be an option but that's scraping the barrel and don't think Robins is that experimental, or that it's the right time of the season to be doing so!

Can't see it. If anything i think it would be the other way round, but this would be pretty desperate.

I'd probably go for Kelly from the start and then you can put Maguire on and drop Hamer alongside Eccles when Kelly runs out of steam.
Agree except it'd probably be Howley rather than Maguire.

Were people watching a different game? Kelly’s passing was woeful, just aimless pumps forward. He played a blind pass to nobody towards the end when we had a 3 v 2 advantage 25 yards out
He did, but then played a nice ball down the line for Vik's cross that led to the 95th min corner.

I was actually surprised how well he did all things considered.

Don't want to get on the players backs too much as it's been a long, tough season and we're quite clearly down to the bare bones, but the performance was poor overall tonight. Wilson obviously scores highly for the goal, and I thought Gyokeres worked as hard as ever but struggling to single many others out for too much praise. Sheaf was having a decent game before he went off, and Hamer was trying his best to drag us up the pitch, although was quite sloppy himself. Don't really think the two loanee wing-backs have worked ot so far. Was overly harshed in the heat of the moment towards Wilson-Esbrand in the match thread, but he's also just not showing enough and isn't using the ball well enough when we need him to. Norton-Cuffey was the better of the two but he is hopelessly slow and some of his decision making is incredibly questionable. I was a big fan of Eccles when he broke into the team, but he's been below standard recently. He either seems to take too long on the ball or moves it on too quickly and either way it breaks down the move. Centre backs were ok as ever, although again the distribution is qute poor and we go play it back to the opposition needlessly far too often. Godden was probably the most ineffective player on the pitch tonight. Him and Gyokeres as a pair just doesn't work for me at all, and when we're struggling to get a foothold on a game he offers very, very little. Walker didn't have many opportunities to impose himself on th game, but felt like he did a better job of winning the aerial balls and holding up play in his cameo than Godden did in 90 minutes. I'd personally give Walker a start on Saturday.

Overall, not a great performance and not what we needed tonight, but to come out of that game with a point given how we played and how unlikely it was looking for most of the game has to go down as some sort of an achievement. Not convinced we have it in us to get 6 points from Reading and Birmingham given how we've been playing since the international break, and how bare bones our squad is, but we're still in the conversation with 3 games to go which is way above expectations both at the start of the season, and especially 7 games in when we looked like shoe ins for relegation.

EDIT: Completely forgot to mention Kelly, who I thought did well, especially after so long out.
JWE did well when he came in. His final ball needs work but he offers an attacking threat that Bidwell doesn’t. Norton-Cuffy I would appraise similarly.

Godden looks miles off it currently and is like playing with 10 men. The guy can finish but at the minute we are carrying him hoping he gets that chance.

kelly looked like a player who has barely played for 2 years. He’s an organiser which we need but my god he always looks rushed, gives the ball away and his legs don’t let him recover when he does.

I thought Robins was proactive and brave in his subs. Wilson and Robins take the honours for me.

They played well, we played shite, but we drew! Good signs!

It was a shocker indeed, like they all had stage fright.

Eccles looked like he forgot how to pass or think, and Godden was just looking busy but without adding anything to the attack. Not sure what instructions Robins gave Vik either, but running the channels (maybe as a decoy) with two markers could have been exploited more.

Still can’t believe we got a point by Wilson bundling it in from 2 yards out, but I’ll take it. We’re still in the hunt. ⚽️
Wilson was a lot closer than 2 yds out

Not the best performance but we stayed on their shoulder and got an away point. A deserved away point.

Need to back it up with home wins now. Still in it and season still alive.

Seemed to me that lots of us froze due to the big occasion/pressure involved which may be uncharted territory for some.
Hopefully that doesn’t happen again on Saturday as we have to deliver to keep it alive.
