This would be really good news if it pans out. He's been a real threat when pushing forward and his defensive abilities are pretty solid.

MARK Robins hopes to have Blair Adams on board as a full-time Coventry City player in time for Saturday’s home match against Oldham.

The Sunderland left-back played the last match of his extended loan spell last night as the Sky Blues trimmed League One pace-setters Tranmere Rovers 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena.

But Robins revealed after the game: “We’re in negotiations with Blair and if all goes well he will be our player within the next 24 hours which would obviously be great news for us.”

Adams was in excellent form in defence and attack as Coventry produced a fine all-round display to survive some frantic second-half pressure and hold on to the lead given to them by Leon Clarke’s first-half goal for a win that lifts them to tenth spot, three points outside the play-off places.

“Playing the league leaders is always a good measure of where you are,” Robins said, “and we forced them to change their shape for the first time this season which is a compliment to our performance.

“We showed that we warranted that in the first half because we played very well indeed. All the stats were in our favour in the first half and they perhaps edged it in the second half when we started to get a bit sloppy and gave them opportunities to break and catch us outnumbered.

“Fortunately we had an inspired Joe Murphy to get us out of the mire and preserve our clean sheet, which was important because we haven’t had one of those for a while.

“We spoke about that before the game and I’m delighted that they came up trumps.

“We were running out of steam a bit at the end. They were a little bit jaded at Carlisle on Sunday so I gave them the day off on Monday to recover and I think that showed.

“But they did us proud tonight, gave me everything I asked for. I’m very, very pleased.”

Robins confirmed that Clarke’s goal from a corner was a move perfected on the training pitch and added: “It’s done everybody good; he gets on the scoresheet, we get three points and start moving in the right direction.

“He’s missed one or two in the last couple of games but if he keeps getting himself into those positions he’ll score more than he misses.

“I’m delighted for the supporters because they’ve turned out in numbers on a freezing cold evening – even my ears have got frostbite.”

Difficult to say, Greggs. I would stick my neck out and say he is. More than good enough.

Finger crossed! The gulf is massive though, so many errors go unpunished! No doubt promotion would bring the addition of a new LM to really seal up that side of the pitch.

Good news, really impressed with him last night. Think we've done well to sign him and has the quality to play at a higher level than Div 1

Not bad for a club that never signs any players.
